I wanted to buy little green men so badly, but I couldn't figure out how I could use them in my classroom that could justify the purchase. I'm up for ideas, because if I have an excuse/justification for making them educational, I can buy them on the summer trip and take them out of the room money that we are given each year.

reminded me that this was the day that I was wearing my Ask Me To Do A Survey t-shirt.

I did one on food service, one on general info, and then I had to go sit at the computer to do a more extensive one. I had to turn down three others who were offering repeat surveys of what I had already done. I'm always up for doing them, though, because I'm hoping there could be a perk attached to my card/name when they scan it.

Hi MeMom!
I hope you are enjoying your last Sunday of spring break. Now the real countdown to your Mother's Day trip can begin!:goodvibes

You know, I had gone back and started reading your very first TR (Baby and the Tramp) and had just gotten to the part where you posted about Trent's accident on there. Then I came here this morning and read it...kinda weird! I am glad that it all turned out ok. I'm sure it was a scary time for all of you but our minds become clearer about what is important in life when things like that happen.

As for the little green men, I think they would make an excellent manipulative for children having a hard time with basic addition and subtraction. They could have a baggie of men and some problems to solve at a station or their desk.:teacher:

Missed your update, must have been posting at the same time!

Have at least 3 things added to my shopping wish list now - including those little green aliens. I can definitely see a use for them in math lessons :rolleyes1

i actually took a picture of the brown and white purse in the first purse picture to show you cause I thought you would like it...but I never showed it to you! LOL!

Fun Dis Meet. Wow, so glad Trent is ok. Yay for Anita and Shocker making it home. I missed Mousegear last time-this time I will visit a few times to make up for it :) Have a good first day back after break!

Long, long story.
Last regular season game of his senior year, last two minutes of the soccer game, Trent went in for a goal and got a knee in the stomach by the goalie. He fell down and very unlike him, took a few minutes to get up. He did, though, and attended the senior night party after the game, but said he felt horrible. The trainer took him to the doctor that was on campus at the time, and he looked him over. He told us to watch for this and that, but it was a one in a million chance that he'd be anything but sore.

Trent woke up in the middle of the night sick, which did worry me a little. He missed school the next day - the first day he had missed all year. He called midday and said he felt so bad, but he was determined to go to the Senior Banquet with his beautiful homecoming queen girlfriend that night. He said he was going to see the trainer first to try to get some meds to make it through.

The trainer sent him straight to the hospital. I was called and told to meet him there. By the time I got there, they had him hooked up to a thousand things doing test after test. We were told every test was coming back bad, and he was prepped for emergency surgery. Prayers were said, and the trainer, who was the only one who was fully understanding the doctors' lingo, left the room in tears.

The night ended with students and teachers filling the parking lot and lobby in their dresses and tuxes while he was in surgery. The doctor came out and said that by some sheer freak accident, he had been hit with such force that it had busted every organ in his stomach and he was bruised from sternum to spine. Poisons had been leaking into his body all night and day, and we were told that had he not been sent in by the trainer, he would have probably lasted about two more hours. He would have collapsed and died at his senior banquet is what we were told. He was on the front page of the Nashville Tennessean because this was such a freak accident. The doctors said the injuries were like what they see in 80 mph car accidents.

Only my son, right?!?!?

He had an eight month recovery at home, but as you can see, he is a healthy horse now. We are very blessed to still have him with us.

WOW! That was scary! I'm so glad that Trent recoverd and is doing so well now. I hope things go great for him in Orlando.:)

Your dismeet with Tinkgurl looked like fun.

Tinkgurl, I love your purse! I got when when I was there for NYE! Did you get it on your trip or have you had it. I can't wait to see the new ones. We are going on Sat for Spring Break!!!!!!!:cool1::cool1::banana::banana:

Jill, good luck with the Dr on Tues. I don't blame you for wanting a second opinion.

Wigd, I'm glad you and Shocker made it home ok! It sounds like you had an eventful trip home.

We did a survey a couple of times, too. The first one was when we got to AK in the monsoon, but it was before it was a monsoon, so we didn't really mind stopping. :rotfl:

I love MouseGears. I poked around in there for a long, long time after I watched Illuminations on the last night, texting Katie the whole time and just trying to prolong the inevitable leaving. I can't believe the crowd around SSE!

I like the idea of using the little green men as a manipulative for kids having issues with addition/subtraction. I would like math a lot more if I could use little green men!

I thought you did. I wrote about in at length on one of the reports, but maybe you weren't reading then. I thought you had been with us forever, though. :)

i think i joined in during baby and the tramp. and you may have mentioned it in a post and i just missed it. sometimes (actually, most times) i don't read all the chatter unless i notice that you've posting in different text (than you for that, by the way). i wish i had time to but i just don't. if only i could dis all day long! ;)

I'm always up for doing them, though, because I'm hoping there could be a perk attached to my card/name when they scan it.

me too! i've done 2 at AK but never anywhere else - just never been asked to anywhere else. the CMs at AK must have taken a liking to me or something!

loved the mickeyroni and cheese! :goodvibes

Wow! There are so many people in that pic as you were leaving EPCOT!

And double wow about Trent. What a scary time that must have been.

What fun shopping pictures! I'm such a sucker for shopping. I'm trying to get better but it's HARD. It's even HARDER at Disney. ;) I love the purses especially. I also was going to suggest using the little green men for math. I know my daughter used these rubber bears for counting purposes in school a year or so ago. I think the green men could be used the same way. :)

Ooooh! My mum and I were just talking about the kinds of souvies we wanted to get this afternoon! I may have had to show her some of your photos....basically I want 3 of everything! Little did I know I would get to shop with you some more when I got home! I really do need a new handbag though...how will I ever choose! ;)

Could you use the little green men for math demonstrations? 2 aliens plus 4 aliens...?
or fractions or uhhh....as prizes or mascots or.....replacements for sick pupils? ;) I can't think of anything else!

Jiil and Trent became especially close during this time. She had come into town to take pictures of his big night, and she ended up staying a whole week and keeping me company at the hospital. She was a more than excellent big sister to him at that time.

You get really close when you get to pull almost 6 feet of tubing out of your brother's stomach that was draining all the ick out!

Jill, good luck with the Dr on Tues. I don't blame you for wanting a second opinion.

Thanks! I'm not sure if everyone knows because I think I only posted it on facebook and not over here. John and I are taking Bellarie to a pediatric craniofacial plastic surgeon in Birmingham on Tuesday. I have some concerns about the doctor that is currently scheduled to do her surgery. He specializes in adult cosmetic surgery so when I heard about Dr. Grant I decided to seek a second opinion.

Hey there Memom! Catching up here from the weekend! Wow, that was a crowd at Epcot! :scared1:

You could use the aliens for an estimating activity. You know the "how many are in the jar" sort of thing. You could also use them for behavior stuff. I used a stop light color system to encourage good behavior in my classroom. Everyone started the day on green. If someone misbehaved they changed their card to yellow and then red if things really got bad. I think most schools use something like this. I always liked to sit something green on their desk to start the day that would encourage them to stay on green, like green M&Ms, green clovers at St. Patrick's Day, a green plastic Easter egg with a little prize inside, etc. I had lots of green things! So when you asked about the aliens, that was the first idea in my mind. You could sit an alien on each child's desk and take it away if they have to change their color (if there are enough in the pack...... not sure how many were in there). Sorry for my rambling on. I know I gave you way more to read than you wanted! :rolleyes1

More things to add to my ever-growing wish list of Disney souvenirs! :lmao:

I like the bag on the left in the first bags picture, and Connor would look adorable in the red Walt Disney World t-shirt with Chip and Dale on the monorail.

Most of the snow has melted around here....
I'll be back at it tomorrow! One day closer to summer!

Yesterday, I believed you.
Today, I'm calling you a liar! :upsidedow

I am glad all was fine and the detour did not result in any injury...
I completely missed this conversation earlier today while I enjoyed my 70s weather!!!

As you now know, she kept trying until she DID get hurt! :scared1:

I'm glad somebody is enjoying 70 degree weather!

MeMom, Trent must be made of strong stuff

Strength helped him and hurt him. They said if he hadn't been so fit with such strong muscles, it could have killed him pretty much right then. Trying to be strong enough to tough it out and go to his banquet almost did.

Counting manipulatives was the only thing I could think of off the top of my head, but we were given nine million of the linking blocks to use for that. If I let one or two students use the aliens, there would be chaos. Then again, maybe I could do just that. Use them as a reward for students who were being good role models - sort of an incentive to others to get caught being good. :)

Missed your update, must have been posting at the same time!

What else did you decide you want?

i actually took a picture of the brown and white purse in the first purse picture to show you cause I thought you would like it...but I never showed it to you! LOL!

You took shopping pictures? Didn't people look at you funny? :goodvibes

You have to have a lot of time to do MouseGear right - it's so big!

It's cold and wet for our start back, but I think it's supposed to warm back up some tomorrow.

WOW! That was scary! I'm so glad that Trent recoverd and is doing so well now. I hope things go great for him in Orlando.

Your dismeet with Tinkgurl looked like fun.

Jill, good luck with the Dr on Tues. I don't blame you for wanting a second opinion.

We hope things go great for him, too! :thumbsup2

We enjoyed seeing tinkgurl. I hope they had a great meal at Rainforest and then got plenty of rest. She'll have a great report, I know.

Maybe she'll feel better about things after this visit. You do want to feel your very best when you hand over your baby to someone. I handed over a fourteen month old for surgery once, and it's a little nerve-wracking until your little one is cuddled back up in your arms.

We did a survey a couple of times, too. The first one was when we got to AK in the monsoon, but it was before it was a monsoon, so we didn't really mind stopping. :rotfl:

It was very crowded!!!

All school subjects are better when I can sneak some Disney in. ;)

I'm talking about for me, not the kids.

I bet you will buy a bxs of that for your toddler one day. You'll probably only buy it once, though. It's kind of expensive. It is fun to buy it once, though. I saved my box, and it is displayed along with my Chef Mickey.

Wow! There are so many people in that pic as you were leaving EPCOT!

And double wow about Trent. What a scary time that must have been.

We were there during the most crowded week of the year, of course, but we still did quite well with our early mornings and a few late nights.

It was such a whirlwind thing that we didn't have time to be scared. I think it's scarier now when we think about it. I feel the same way about the time I was robbed at gunpoint. Two gunpoints, that is.

You are about to really be a Mommy!!! :dance3:
Keep us posted!

I stay away from stores at home, so shopping in Disney World is that much more fun. Dangerous, though. Mostly I window shop and take pictures. I used to buy more, but the last several trips, I have cut waaaaay back! I used to try to get little souvenirs for friends' kids and grandkids, but that adds up trip after trip, so I stopped doing it every time, and when I do, I usually get something like Disney candy or rice krispy treats or something small.

I have this green shirt on right now :)

I wear my Disney shirts on weekends, too. :)
Hope you had a good weekend with family.

Ooooh! My mum and I were just talking about the kinds of souvies we wanted to get this afternoon! I may have had to show her some of your photos....basically I want 3 of everything! I'm trying to think of a way to use the aliens as a behavior incentive maybe.

Glad you enjoyed the shopping. :goodvibes

You get really close when you get to pull almost 6 feet of tubing out of your brother's stomach that was draining all the ick out!

Ewww, gross! You earned your nursing degree that week!

I wish I could put something on my kids' desks, but unfortunately, some of these kids do not respect the property of others, to put it nicely. We have bag checks fairly often for various reasons. I wish I could do that, but this is not a 'normal' school. I could use them in estimation, though.

More things to add to my ever-growing wish list of Disney souvenirs! :lmao:

I like the bag on the left in the first bags picture, and Connor would look adorable in the red Walt Disney World t-shirt with Chip and Dale on the monorail.

I thought that shirt was cute, too. If I had had the money, I would have gotten them for Carson and Parker.

Sounds good to me :thumbsup2

We will make that happen someday. We'll fill somebody's house up with little ones, won't we??? :dance3:

Keep your eye on the aforementioned little red t-shirt for your little boy one of these days. They probably start at 2T, but it sure is cute.

Memom,

I remember reading about Trent's injury before, but it was just as scary the second time. I can't imagine how scared you all must have been.
