When we went to LTT last trip, there was a family who went upstairs and announced the opening of the dinner hour. I believe the man rang a bell. Does anyone know what this is called and how families are chosen to do this? TIA for any help.

We were chosen to do this last july. We didn't do or say anything different when we checked in, they just asked us our names and told us to be seated in the waiting area like everyone else. After about 5-10 minutes a nice lady walked over to the waiting area and called out our name, she then quietly asked us if we would like to be the family to ring the bell we said yes, she said she would be back in a few minutes. When she came back she took us to the dining area, we waited a couple seconds for the characters to come out and the cm's took a group picture of us with the characters with our camera, then we all went upstairs for the opening. They also served us first out of everyone in the restaurant.

It's one of those special things at WDW--like being the Flag Family at the WL, helping Merlin pull the sword out to the stone at the MK, being chosen as a float family at the AK, being chosen to participate in the Indy show at MGM, etc.

Most of it is being in the right place a the right time.

At the LTT, I'm pretty sure they look for families with a calm but not shy child between the ages of 8 and 12. Old enough to read, but not too old to think it's "stupid" (like some teens might think). They seem to choose smaller familes (one to three kids) who are reasonably well groomed--ie hair is brushed, not wearing clothes with holes or wet bathing suits, etc. This is simply my observation having seen this done at least a dozen times between lunch and dinner at the LTT.

We were chosen to be a float family at the AK on our last trip--it was soo much fun! We were eating breakfast at Donald's when we were asked if we'd like to do it :)

We've done this a couple times at lunch. We always make ressies for when the restaurant opens, and we always eat here once each trip. Both times, we didn't do a thing, just checked in and sat down. A woman came and asked us if we would like to do it, and then showed us what to do and what to read. They also took pictures with our camera (no characters at lunch) and gave us a certificate. It was fun, but not anything we ever actually seeked out.

Ducklite,

We was a family of 3........dh, myself, and GS who was 9 yrs old at the time. & he is out going, not shy or afraid to speak in front of a crowd. We got to LTT around 3:45 for dinner.

This was the first time grandson had seen any characters. (his first disney trip) ....so it was great when they all came out at the same time to greet us and have a group picture taken. This was so special for a first trip & is something he still talks about. When we asked him where he wanted to eat at in wdw this year his first reply LTT :)
