We did the Keys to the Kingdom tour a few years back, and our CM (who was awesome, BTW!
), told us a similar story to the one above, with a few differences....
The mansion was built by Mr. Gracey...who became engaged to a beautiful young women.
The night before the wedding, Mr. Gracey 'caught' his future bride with someone else
, and a HUGE argument ensued. During the argument, the bride ran to the top of the mansion, and was in the attic, trying to escape the wrath of Mr. Gracey.
He followed her, and in the attic, he told her that the wedding was off, and threw the wedding ring out of the attic window...it flew out, and became embedded in the concrete below. He then told his fiance that she would be disgraced forever. The bride, being extremely distraught at the thought of disgrace, threw herself out the window. Mr. Gracey, feeling remorse and shame at what he had done, then killed himself by hanging...that's whose body you see hanging from the ceiling in the Stretching Room....
It was a GREAT story, and no matter what version you hear, it really adds to the attraction. What made it so comical that day was seeing our tour group, of apprximately 20 people, on their hands and knees, trying to find that darned ring in the cement!!!
I saw the ring that day, but I haven't found it since...which....is rather spooky, don't ya' think??!!
