Right Turn On Red

this was something i thought about today and was wondering if this is legal in every state.....in your state, is it legal to make a right turn on red at a stop light after you stop?...here in NH its legal, unless posted on a sign

Yes and No.

-On Long Island it is legal to turn on red (unless posted otherwise).
-In NYC it is illegal to turn on red.

Makes it confusing sometimes.

It's also legal to turn left on red if the intersection is of two one way streets

It's legal in WI, unless otherwise posted. It IS only legal if you are in the far right turn lane. If you are in the left- right turn lane, it is not legal.

I do not think it is legal in NJ though, but I am not 100% sure. I remember it coming up in Driver's ED way back. Hopefully someone from NJ posts.....

it is legal here in nebraska too unless there is a sign posted.
My dh gets all excited when he drives in florida though because u-turns are legal there! they are illeagal here in nebraska!

Want to see something screwed up, in MI we have a MI left. Basically you cannot make a left turn at a busy intersection you go past the intersection into a left turn lane and make the left about 1/4 mile past the light. And you can make that left on a red light after stopping! If they can find a way to screw something up they will do it.

it is legal here, and also was in my home state of CT, unless otherwise posted. i used to like to freak out my friends from new york city (it is NOT legal there, unless posted) who would come visit me in high school, by making rights on reds. they would freak out, yelling "what are you doing!!!!!"

I visited a friend in Michigan a couple of years ago and he had to warn me of these rules. The first time making a left at a red light I had cars honking at me because I thought I had to wait. Yes the driving rules there are a little screwy, and this coming from a NYer.

I never knew it wasn't legal everywhere until I was in Montreal visiting my aunt a few years ago. I was driving in the city, and took a R on red. She starts to panic, and asks me if I didn't see the red light. Apparently it's illegal in Quebec

When I live in Augusta (in GA on the SC border) it was illegal in SC. Aparently the police in North Augusta SC loved to follow drivers with GA plates and ticket them as soon as they made a right turn on red.
