I could really use some advice. Next year I talked my family into upgrading to a moderate, and we decided on CBR. It will be me,my parents who are in their 60's,my daugheter and her daughter who will be 1 1/2yrs. I just found out that there is no elevator and it is a really large resort. The problem is we will be hauling a stroller around (not good for stairs) and my mom has difficulty walking for large amounts of time. We will be doing a lot of walking in the parks and really don't want to walk all over the resort. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

First I would pay the extra for a Preferred Room as it is close to OPR (Food Court, Gift Shop and Pool) then I would put in a request for a first floor (explain to them about your mom and stairs), that should make it easier.

Thank you for your help, I forgot to mention that we can't afford the prefered, but I will call and request the bottom floor or if available I plan on checking out CSR since they have an elevator. I was trying to decide between both of them anyway. If there is any other advice out there I would love to hear it. Thanks again

We just got back from POR on 9/15 they have elevators and it's a BEAUTIFUL resort! We LOVED it and will stay there again. It is very peaceful and relaxing. The foodcourt and gift shop were great. POR also has a boat to DTD. What ever you decide have a great trip!

I love POR too. Just an FYI... the Alligator Bayou section buildings do not have elevators, but the mansions do.

Not all of POR has elevators-the mansions do but AB section does not. It is also very large.

Have you considered POFQ? It is a very small compact resort-with elevators.

Yes I have thought of POFQ. I think of it more and more. One of the reasons I was thinking about switching to CSR was because I heard more people like it and that there are no prefered at CSR and my parents might possibly be able to get a king size bed without having to pay extra for it. I don't know if that is true or not and I have only been to WDW twice and stayed at pop, so that is why I am going to the experts of this board.:goodvibes

I've never stayed at CSR. The photos do look beautiful but that resort is HUGE!!!!

I don't know how good your chances of getting a king room would be. I would say in all of my stays my requests are not met more than they are. I would be prepared for the worst room. The worst room at POFQ is relatively close to the food court/bus stop.

You may also want to consider a prefered room at a value resort. I was wishing I was at Pop when I was at POR this summer.

Thank you for the information, I am really looking more towards POFQ since I hear it is smaller with elevators. I have stayed prefered at pop this last time and was not all that happy this time. I did pay for prefered also this time and last year did not pay for prefered and I got a better room with a view of the lake. I just want a little more next year since we will be staying 12 nights. We want to enjoy the resort a little more.

You won't be disappointed with the POFQ, its fabulous! Plus you have the boat to DTD which makes a nice change from the buses. Nowhere is too far to walk and the grounds are so beautiful. Great pool, food court and the live jazz in the bar/lounge is great too!

Thank you everybody for all of your help. I called the reservation number and spoke with someone who said that they do have elevators and when she had her honeymoon there that she said they were there. She did put in a request for me for the bottom floor, so it looks like we will stay at CBR.

We have just returned from our first stay at CSR on September 15th. Overall, it was a very a attractive resort, however I will probably not choose it again just out of my own preference. Our main complaint was the long distance from our room to the main building(El Centro). Some would take issue with that, but I just prefer not to have to hike to get food or something from the gift shop....

On the other hand, I have stayed at POFQ and am kind of kicking myself for not staying there instead. If you want a compact, beautiful, theme-filled, resort then I would suggest POFQ. It was very easy to get to everything and I would recommend it to anyone. The absolute only negative I can think of is that sometimes the buses run long-but we drive so we just ended up taking our car.

I have always been very pleased with the service that I have received at the CBR. I have taken by 80+ year old mother and requested a ground floor close to transportation/food court - I explained the situation that she is not extremely mobile due to past back surgery....they were WONDERFUL to arrange a room that was everything that we could have wanted or needed. We were upgraded to a preferred room in Martinique overlooking the lake (free of charge) My mother enjoyed every minute of it!!! It has been about three years ago now and she still talks about how wonderful that trip was!!

That was very nice of them, and I am glad your mom had a pleasant experience, maybe something similar can happen for me. My family does have their heart set on CBR, I probably would prefer POFQ, but I am in Disney either way and I am just excited to have been able to upgrade from a value.

Seriously, the person you spoke with about CBR was INCORRECT ... there are no elevators at CBR.

She had to be confusing it with another resort.

She said she had her honymoon there and that they do have elevators and something about that for regulations or safety that they have to have elevators. I will call back and double check though, thanks for your information.

Let us know what you hear, because all of us who've actually been there will be shocked to find out that we ALL missed the elevators.

It's not uncommon for Disney customer service reps to innocently provide incorrect information. You'll soon learn that she was obviously thinking of a different resort.

Believe it or not, you'll tend to find more accurate info here on The DIS than from the Disney phonesters, at least when it comes to stuff that probably isn't necessarily on a fact sheet somewhere.

You are absolutely right. They do not have elevators, but she said because of my moms disability to climb steps that they have to give a ground floor, she just needs to bring her handicap card. The elevator issue was the only problem that we had so I am glad we can stay. I have heard such great things about CBR and I don't remember any negatives except its large, but so was Pop.
