***Riding out the hurricane at a Disney resort? Post your experiences here!***

HOPE EVERYONE IS WELL AND SAFE! I was supposed to stay at The Poly last Friday-Wednesday. Two studios, one occupied by friends from St. Augustine, Fl. They canceled and evacuated. I was going to stay with them the Wednesday-Friday before, so the day before my flight I booked a studio at Saratoga Springs for those nights (I'm a DVC owner at both). On Friday morning when it became clear Irma would impact central Florida, I booked a flight back to California for noon on Saturday. I transfered to SS from The Poly Friday morning. The Cast Members at the front desk were wonderful, especially Becky, who made sure my studio would be held until it was certain my flight wasn't canceled. She even stepped out from behind the desk to give me a hug and a kiss on the cheek when she saw how concerned I was. She gave me the number of the back office if The Poly so I could call during my layover and officially check out. I did.

So instead of five nights I stayed three days on property. While all the months of planning, ADRs, and Fast Passes went away it was great, but it was frightening watching the local news. The whole idea of an incoming hurricane permeated every moment of the trip. It made having a pina colada out by the pool on Friday absolutely surreal. I consider myself VERY fortunate that a truncated WDW trip was the only effects I felt from Hurricane Irma. The first day I was home my DVC Sales Guide called me to make sure I was safe (he was calling all clients he knew were there), which I thought was nice. I was also assured I'd get my unused points bsck. Wouldn't do this again if another hurricane was possible though.

Hi, on another post someone mentioned channel 31 I think it is, so I'd try that one :-) I've not checked yet to see what's on so apologies if I'm wrong.
It WAS channel three, the information channel at the resorts

So are you thinking you would stay if it were to happen again?

We were there last week (Monday the 4th through Friday the 8th) and I have to say it was the best trip I've ever had to WDW. Very low crowds, with most everything a walk on up to a 20 minute wait other than FoP. We knew when we left on Monday that Irma could possibly make its way to FL, but we knew it wasn't supposed to hit until the following weekend. We don't have smart phones and don't watch the news usually on vacation, so we didn't know until we heard a woman talking on the bus Wednesday afternoon about evacuating that it was predicted to come through central FL. We did turn on the news that night and got more up to speed. It was definitely a bit surreal enjoying the nice weather and the MNSSHP on Thursday knowing what was headed our way. That said, people didn't seem too concerned about it and the Halloween Party was a lot more crowded than we were expecting. I had a bit of anxiety about catching my flight on Friday evening since it ended up delayed, but it all worked out okay and I'm so thankful that was my original flight. Although... from the sounds of everyone's reports here, I think that staying at the resort wouldn't have been too bad after all. I'm so glad it turned out so well for everyone there!

Oh, and I should mention that on my last trip to the Pop Century food court before I caught my Magical Express bus, the CM there didn't charge me for my milkshake. He said that everyone needs a milkshake now and then, especially with what was coming toward us. I must have looked sad, lol. I was tired at that point and a bit sad to leave such a great vacation. The CM's at WDW really are awesome though!!

Oh sorry. But I'm sure that will make those that canceled their trip, or left early, feel better about their decision.

Glad it worked it well for you!
I feel you made a good decision, that I would of made too. Being told that this hurricane is going to be a nuclear hurricane, with tragic aftermath, no one is invinceable, not even Disney. If it would of stayed a category 4, these posts would be a whole lot different.

So good to read things are getting back to normal. We leave Thursday from Atlanta. My only concern now is making sure we can find gas.
Please post about your drive down. We're supposed to leave ATL on Friday to go to Ponte Vedra for a conference and truly dreading the drive!

*clears throat loudly* Just want to say thank you to everyone who's shared their experiences and real-time updates, and especially to everyone who's shared dog-related details and photos! I just shared one with my BFF's 8 y/o daughter and she LOVED it! Also whoever posted about a ketchup shortage, that got a big laugh on my Facebook!

I'll try to find the link. It's in one of my aviation forums (I'm a pilot and Air Traffic Controller). I know Tampa is expecting to be operating Tuesday or Wednesday.
Retired ATC who evacuated to a Value on Friday. Where are/were you working? Feel free to pm.
Everyone stay safe and try to follow Disney's safety rules.
