Ridiculous Products

This I've learned from Alton Brown: No unitaskers in my kitchen. I don't want a gadget To use for one specialty item and sit around taking up space the rest of the time.

I agree with this, and with you, OP. I've never seen these appliances in person and am resisting checking out the ad because I don't want to be tempted. Whoopie Pies and Cupcakes are certainly easy enough to make without a special appliance.

Here are the cake pops I made at Easter:

My two DDs and I had fun making these together.

While I do kind of agree with the OP, I'm a sucker for useless kitchen gadgets! The worst was the cocoa-latte (?) machine, the purpose of which was to make your hot chocolate frothy. I think I used it once. Now it sits in the linen closet with my s'more-maker and my pasta pot!

I have that cocoa latte as well.... never used..lol. We also have some pasta cooker thing. I have tons of kitchen gadgets, most never used. I did sell my bread maker on craigslist. Interestingly, the guy who bought it says he wants it to roast coffee beans... never heard of that, but thats cool..lol

Most of my useless kitchen gadgets from my MIL - electric knife (we have a full set of very good quality knives), a manual food processor, a mandolin slicer, a hot water dispenser, etc. The one "useless" item I bought was a Rotato - rotary potato peeler, for my DH, as a joke, because he hates peeling potatoes. Wouldn't you know this has been used endlessly!! :rotfl:

I have the cake pop maker from Kohls. Only paid $14 for it, love it. Make cake pops all the time for parties, etc. They're always a hit. To each his own I suppose.

Funny thing, I totally agreed when I started reading this.

I also had no idea what a cake pop was until all of you talking about them made me look.
Now I want one!

Same here! Now that I googled it, I have to have it! lol

I am so thankful that no one bought us the Kitchen Aid mixer we had on our bridal registry. It would have taken up so much space and it would have barely been used.

I felt the same way as OP when I saw these products, but to each their own. The only thing I was wondering about is whether the donuts would be lower in fat since they are not fried. I (for special occassions) will fry some donuts or beignets for the kids, but they are very fattening.

OOOOOH!!! I think I need one of these cake pop makers now! Better start making room in the kitchen...:)

I used to use our ice tea maker all the time. It made the best tea in record time.

We just haven't made iced tea in a long time. It actually sounds kind of good right now...

I think they're a little frivilous too - but yet I WANT THEM ALL!! LOL!!!! I think they lok like tons of fun, and with 2 kids I know we'd get use out of them!

Plus they are such PRETTY colors! Thanks to the poster that suggested these for a gift idea. I got the cake pop maker and the donut maker about 3 weeks ago when they were on sale for $20 and then I had another 30% off. I was SO excited :yay:

I'm with you and the OP, for me the less I have in my kitchen the better!!!!! To each their own though!!!!

This was my second thought. Now I need to get rid of the juicer taking up space in the basement because my mother bought it for herself, found out it was a PITA to clean, and gave it to us. That also goes for the dehydrator my DH bought 12 years ago and used once.

I just LOVE:love: ridiculous kitchen gadgets...and the people who buy them....use them once or twice (or never) and then sell them to ME for a dollar at a tag sale when they clean house..... then I get to try the ridiculous item for a few weeks, and pass it along......:rotfl2:
really,I do this all the time, just to try the item, then I goodwill it when I'm sick of it,kind of like a rental plan for unneeded gadgets....:rotfl:
the truth is most of these things are ridiculous, but fun for a little while, and while I wouldn't want to waste $$$ on them,I enjoy trying them temporarily;)

I view it as we all have things that are well... useless to others. Right now on my wish list at Amazon is a cookie jar that looks like Dr. Who's Tardis. I am sure most people would look at that $30 cookie jar and wonder what on God's green earth I was thinking putting it as something I wanted to buy :rotfl: On the other hand, during our latest move my step-grandmother gave us many, many kitchen gadgets that went straight to the goodwill pile that she thought would be extremely useful. Worth is in the eyes of the beholder :goodvibes

There is such a thing as a Dr. Who Tardis Cookie jar? Oh my goodness... my husband is a Dr Who junkie. I have to get this for Father's Day to store our dog bones (don't like cookies in the house). LOL.

Oooh, I just remembered another gadget that made me laugh - my ex-BIL had a thing called a Hot-Diggety-Dogger - kind of like a hot dog and bun toaster. He loved that silly thing!! I wonder if he still has it.
