Rides with 3 month old

I wouldn't take a 3-month old on any ride, because I wouldn't want to get stuck half way through with a kid crying and screaming and ruining everyone else's experience. You can't exactly reason with a 3-month old. It's not fair to the other guests, and your baby isn't going to get anything out of it anyway.

Newborns don't belong on rides. What if you have to evacuate? Just my opinion, but you did ask, LOL.

NED

Ya know, NED, your responses to MANY threads lead me to believe that you don't have children, or if you do, they are not the best-behaved bunch. :bitelip: My son has never cried on a ride, and he's been going to WDW since he was 2 months old. The fact that you seem to think all babies are constantly crying and all children are perpetually misbehaving mystifies me. As for the evacuation question, the answer is that most people with babies in WDW have them in front carriers, slings, or the like. OP, if you had not yet considered some type of carrier, let me suggest one to you now. It will make life much more pleasant (for your back AND your baby)! Good luck, and enjoy!

The breastfeeding thing? C/mon- I nursed all my boys (only until the year mark but thats my and my childrens choice) and I still would not have nursed in the middle of a ride. Why? Because yes it may be my right (debateable obviously) but I wouldn't want to make the people around me uncomfortable. QUOTE]

I've nursed my son on rides whenever I wanted, and no one even KNEW. Trust me...they didn't. There are ways for a veteran NIP'er (that's Nursing in Public for those not aware of it) to nurse without anyone being the wiser. Most of the time people assume he is sleeping, even when talking to me face to face!

Cathy -

I do not think it is legal on a theme park attraction.

NED

Oh, but it is.

OP, ignore NED on this particular issue. He is ignorant of the law and of breastfeeding/babies/children, in general, it seems.

And before you get your panties in a wad, NED...ignorant means you don't know anything about them. NOT that you are stupid, so I'm not calling you names. :thumbsup2

Thanks for asking the question.I will be going in dec. with a 3 month old as well.

Not my boys. DS, Andrew, had a thing about wanting air on him and would constantly move my clothing- this started real young LOL. DS Patrick (my youngest) made such loud grunting noises everytime he ate :rotfl: It was so funny- like a little bear. This particular child still eats like a "hungry little bear"- our nickname for him.

Its just my opinion anyway. It seems to me some people want to "shove" the Breastfeeding thing in peoples face. I'm not like that. It wouldn't bother me if someone breastfed next to me on a ride (nor my husband-his mom is a La Leche League leader) but I know it would bother some and like I said- maybe they can't tell what your doing but for ME it would not be an option on a crowded ride.

It is legal to breastfeed on a theme park ride, and it's okay to bottle feed, too.

I saw lots and lots of new babies - under 6 months - on the rides in MK. I havent' ever heard one screaming as the movement, colors and music keeps them happy and distracted.

Go and have a great time. :goodvibes

I do not know how many rides you have been evacuated on, but especially water rides (i.e. even IASW) are sometimes done on planks you must climb on to (it depends where in the ride you are stranded). I wouldn't risk having to do that with a baby. Or, worse, something like Peter Pan, where they have to ladder you down. Not worth the potential danger - could you imagine?

NED

Whether the child is 3 months or 3 years, someone is going to have to carry him down a ladder or across a plank, so would you not take a 3 year old on Peter Pan or another ride where evacuation would involve someone having to carry him? Should people with limited mobility not ride these rides since they may not be able to climb down a ladder or walk across a plank?

My son will be 9 months old in December, and we will be taking him on every single ride that we feel he would enjoy and be able to handle.

I'm sure its obvious now that NED is selectively reading what he wants to. :)

I'm pretty sure that any of these nursing mothers have no intention of going mardi gras on you, so what's the big deal if their child is being fed.

To answer your question NED. "What makes your child special?"
EVERYTHING.

They can't feed themselves, and they are NEWBORNS. You can hold your hunger - a 3 month old can't (or you wouldn't want to make them). Period.

Unfortunately, society has crumbled to the point where nature itself is rejected.

AS for the OPS question. My daughter is now 3 months old, and as a paranoid father, I wouldn't take her on anything too fast or in the open. As far as the pooh ride, iasw, or peter pan - I would feel somewhat at ease. Since the bright colors and eccentric surroundings would stimulate her.
As paranoid as I am, I would probably worry about overstimulation! heheh, kidding. Have fun.

I took my DD when she was 7 months old in 2002, and am leaving on thursday to take her,now 4, and her 3 month old sister. We took her on everything Disney would allow and never had a problem, she was mesmorized by all of the lights and he characters. I plan on doing the same with my 3 month old. Trust your instincts and have a good time. Take lots of pictures to remember the trip by.

I couldn't agree more :thumbsup2

After 14 months practising I think I pretty much have it down to an art :rotfl2: and like you, nobody would have a clue unless they looked really close. The only time it becomes obvious is when I feed her under something (like a poncho) but that can hardly offend anyone as you can't see a single morsel of skin!

But FWIW I wouldn't nurse when next to a total stranger... that may be deemed inappropriate. I wouldn't have any qualms about doing it when surrounded by family however, and if it makes people like you uncomfortable Ned, I can quite honestly say I couldn't care less. It's nobody else's business but mine and my daughters! I also think the same for bottle feeding moms - if their baby needs feeding on a ride and it will keep them quiet, why not? I think there's a big difference between feeding a baby on a ride, and an adult sitting there with a cheeseburger and can of Coke eating for the sake of it. An adult or older child can wait for food, a baby cannot.

JMO though... and like I said before, the law is on our side, I'd love to see anyone complain about seeing someone nurse in public, my God we should be kicked out of the parks and banned from Disney for life! :rotfl2:

Hi there. You're going to have a fun trip!

I took my daughter to Disneyland at 5 weeks old. It wasn't my idea of a good time but it was a family reunion so we hung in there. I was really shocked at the number of rides and attractions we went on with her. I carried her in a great sling and we had a great time (during the day - nighttime was a different story!). I think we went on the Pooh ride, jungle cruise, etc. Pretty much anything without a restriction. There were times (such as with Haunted Mansion) where we decided to skip the attraction because although there is no restriction, we thought the general atmosphere was not suitable. If my daughter was cranky we took a break and I can't remember a single time when she cried on a ride. (Nighttime in the hotel room - another story altogether!)

Last year we took our 1.5yo and 2.5 yo to Disney World and I would say that almost everything your toddler rides you can ride with your baby. I saw babies in slings on Dumbo, IASW, Peter Pan, etc.

While I'm not going to venture into the breastfeeding debate, I did want to offer some breastfeeding advice for your trip. While I never had to nurse on a ride, there were times when I nursed in lines or at shows. If anyone ever knew I was nursing (and I rarely think they did. There were many occassions when people were like "ooooh, let me see your baby" and would peek into my sling haa haa haa) nobody EVER made me feel ashamed or uncomfortable for doing so. There were so many suitable and comfortable places to nurse around DW, including the air conditioned child care centers.

So, don't worry about riding or nursing your baby when you're at DW. I hope your family has a wonderful trip!

Just wanted to thank everyone for the replies. It is nice to see the support for breastfeeding even though I didn't have any concerns about that...funny :teeth: ! I don't plan on nursing on a ride if I can avoid it... :rotfl: Mostly I am glad to hear that we can all ride as a family :goodvibes . Thanks again.

We took my grandaughter when she was 5 weeks old, and she rode a ton of things. The only thing that concerned us were the loud noises, but that didn't seem to bother her. We are taking that same grandaughter who is now 7 months old, along with her sister (2) and cousin (3.5 months), and their parents next week. We plan on taking the kids on anything that doesn't have restriction. They love the music and colors, and who wants to sit out. If they are fussy, sure, we'll sit out, but, for the most part, if we are riding and there's no restriction, then the whole family will ride.

Have a great time, and take tons of pics!!!!

I don't know, both drinks can spray you in the eye...

You can take the baby on any ride that does not have a height restriction, and there really isn't any reason not to. Don't worry about evacuations and such. That is uncommon and isn't your problem.

I also can't believe you would breast feed a child ON a ride with other guests, but again, it appears our opinions differ.

NED

Actually, mothers nursing near you in attractions has probably happened a number of times, and you just didn't notice. :thumbsup2 :rotfl:
Guests are on attractions to see the attraction, not to look at the guests around them. Since most of the shows are pretty dark, it would be kind of hard to notice, especially if the mother made any attempt at being discreet - like carrying a lightweight shoulder blanket.

I don't think a three month old is culturally aware enough to be afraid of most attractions - if they can even see much beyond colors at that age anyhow. Beyond that, more often than not at that age, they would probably fall asleep on a number of attractions.

To the OP: Go. Have a great time! I would think it would be okay to take the infant on almost anything that the toddler can go on. Any ride where there is areal safety concern has a height restriction. One possible exception would be HISTA. That one can be pretty loud. Then again, I probably wouldn't take a toddler on that ride either. There are enough other attractions. One place I'd be certain to take your family to is the Land. The open space, the colors. A good place for lunch at Epcot.

On then Disney website is listing of 'preschooler' rides. That's a pretty good list to work from.

We are lwaving for our Disney trip on Nov. 4th. :yay: :yay: We are taking our 2 1/2 yr old and our 3 month old. I know there is the baby swap thing for rides but I was wondering if I can take the baby on some of the other rides like small world and pooh. Also, if we baby swap on a ride can our 2 1/2 year old ride again? Thanks!!!

Cathy

I think it's a great idea to take your baby to It's a Small World.. and Pooh ride. I also think you and the baby can enjoy the rides at:

Peter Pan's Flight
Tomorrowland Transit
CoP
Cinderella's Carousel
train
I'm sure there's more..

At Epcot:
Spaceship Earth would be great! It is very relaxing and a nice long ride.
Living with Land. nice and relaxing.
Universe of Energy. nice but can get very loud.

There's tons to see at MGM and AK for you and the baby.

Everyone... The mother never asked any question regarding about breast feeding. So why are you guys talking about the law/regulations/policy of what and what not about her breastfeeding??? :confused3

Give her some tips of what rides to ride on with her 3 month old baby. She could use some suggestions.

We took our twin dds when they were 4 mos and they rode quite a few rides - obviously nothing too fast or jolting.

If you don't already have one, I highly recommend getting a sling as other posters have mentioned. It was so much easier than getting them in and out of strollers. And if they fell asleep in the sling, we didn't have to worry about waking them as we would have if we took them out of the stroller. Also, it made it a breeze to nurse. You're already covered up by the sling, so you can do it anywhere, and no one will even know, not even NED.
