Rides, Slides, Eats & Meets Oct DISmeet Trip. 5/6-Ch 14 Closing Thoughts

Thanks for the update Marv! Nice they worked to get you a table after messing up! Your meal looks wonderful! What did you think about no DDP this trip? I'm thinking about saving up gift cards for meals next time and maybe eating less food.

I love your shout outs to your DISbuds!:thumbsup2 So cool that Dan had info for you, and had a "claim to fame." :firefight

Wow, hot and sunny and too much time at the pool - I feel really sorry for ya! :rolleyes1

I AM perceptive. I can just hear her now.... I know you want to be up and busy but I want to sleep. :lmao:

:worried:.......Do I need to be looking out for one of those spy cams or hidden microphones or something???

15 is wonderful. 1515 would put me out in front... or on top .... of the leaderboard for good.:rotfl2:

Wow, when you shoot for the top you really SHOOT for the top!!! 15 must be your lucky number.......

I know Why is that? :confused3

In my case, it makes more economical sense to listen to the radio and watch TV than pay those outrageous prices for movie tickets and the trip to the concession stand!!!

I can think of MUCH better and rewarding ways to spend my money.........

i will have to check into it. Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2

Looks like Dan already posted and helped us out with the info.......

I can do commercials too - Wendy's

Commercials? Yep, right up that TV alley!!! :happytv:

If it wasn’t for the fact they have revived that familiar line recently, I would question if you were showing your age there............
:rolleyes1

fun size can be better too- not so much of a sugar overload.

Plus you can eat them twice as often!!!!

I like a man who can appreciate a nice melon. :rotfl2:

Always love the summer when melons are much more available. Always been one of my favorites. And usually the best can be enjoyed at Disney! :thumbsup2

I may need to try the Chipotle sausage. Spicy???? Real Spicy????

Quite spicy! You might not be able to handle it!!!

BB is quite cool with Summit Plummet!!! Just make sure you cross your ankles and dig your heels in a little... Otherwise water goes everywhere especially where it doesn't belong.

Will keep that in mind.......

You need to drink water and then everything should be fine. More needs to go in than comes out.
You are one to talk about age .... OLD MAN!!!! :rotfl2:
Thanks to my Peter Pan syndrome, I can usually hang in there with the best of them, even the younger crowd.........:goodvibes

Kudos on remmebering that and asking...and you are welcome for getting back to you so quickly so you could find it.

they rotate the ones that are in the display on the side of the truck and the others are stored in the system for people to look up

It was really neat to find “your” patch in the system. Wish I could have gotten a picture of it on the side of the truck. I looked there also just in case.

when you are there you have to fill out a paper with the information, so you can see what they have filled in, so you know what info to take with you.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully it will help Pat out when she goes back........

and also the patch
Yeah, that might be just a little bit important...... :rotfl:

Keeping up with your TR which is more than you are doing with mine I posted a QUIZ yesterday !!!
Guess I will have to find my own links and go check to see if this is your earlier PTR, or that newer one you were just teasing us with....... :confused3

Get Smart!

Pat already beat you to that one, so I guess YOU missed it by thaaattt much!!!
:)

Nice job on the Hidden Mickeys! :thumbsup2

Thanks!!! Lots more coming........

::yes:: In the cheese soup!
Still need to try that cheese soup..........

Thanks for the update Marv! Nice they worked to get you a table after messing up! Your meal looks wonderful! What did you think about no DDP this trip? I'm thinking about saving up gift cards for meals next time and maybe eating less food.

The DDP was a trial thing when we went on the previous trip. It just seemed to work for that trip. I still prefer more flexibility with meals and menu options, so I prefer not to use it. We do have the TIW card though for the discounts.............when you remember how it works and don’t overtip.........

I love your shout outs to your DISbuds!:thumbsup2 So cool that Dan had info for you, and had a "claim to fame." :firefight

One of those special Disney treats that happen sometimes when you least expect them.....

Wow, hot and sunny and too much time at the pool - I feel really sorry for ya! :rolleyes1
Well, yeah, I guess there are worse things to complain about!!! ::yes::

Like I said.......apparently you are about the only one still sticking with me.........

I am still here too ..... just been kept off the DIS by real life! :scared1: ;)

Love the new update and all the hidden Mickeys! Your meal at Le Cellier looks really good too! :thumbsup2

Yeah, that might be just a little bit important...... :rotfl:
my brother in law also told me that if you dont have the patch with you, you can get the paperwork from the CM's i nthe area there and you can just mail it back with the patch in case you dont want to bring it to disney with you.

Happy Mother's Day to Allison!!!

.......Do I need to be looking out for one of those spy cams or hidden microphones or something???

You never know when I might sneak up on you.... Rememebr I don't live THAT far away..:tiptoe:

Wow, when you shoot for the top you really SHOOT for the top!!! 15 must be your lucky number.......

Why yes - it is my lucky number. :goodvibes

In my case, it makes more economical sense to listen to the radio and watch TV than pay those outrageous prices for movie tickets and the trip to the concession stand!!!

I can think of MUCH better and rewarding ways to spend my money.........

Like gas for all those soccer games you need to get Drew to.:car:

Commercials? Yep, right up that TV alley!!!

If it wasn’t for the fact they have revived that familiar line recently, I would question if you were showing your age there............

Yup I would be but - now and forever you will always be OLDER than I am. :rotfl2:

Plus you can eat them twice as often!!!!
Just a few of the low calorie snacks I love. :rolleyes1:

Always love the summer when melons are much more available. Always been one of my favorites. And usually the best can be enjoyed at Disney!
Summertime seems to bring all the melons out!
I agree that you probably will enjoy them more at Disney. Everything is better at Disney

Thanks to my Peter Pan syndrome, I can usually hang in there with the best of them, even the younger crowd.........:goodvibes

We shall see how you can hang with the younger crowd. Come run with us, or at least come watch while we run..

Still need to try that cheese soup..........

Still no Cheese soup - Food and Wine has a booth with it. YUM They need to add the pretzel bread to the menu but it is GUD!!!

Hey Karin! I know you have been busy between life and travelling! Thanks for checking in again. Hopefully I can get motivated to move this TR along. I am finally getting into some of the more interesting and fun days of my trip(s).

my brother in law also told me that if you dont have the patch with you, you can get the paperwork from the CM's i nthe area there and you can just mail it back with the patch in case you dont want to bring it to disney with you.
Thanks for the info! Since I finally checked it out, that display has become one of my favorite Disney things :lovestruc since it recognizes some of the people who are TRUE heroes in this country!!! :firefight

Happy Mother's Day to Allison!!!

Love-Glitter-Animated-Graphics-44.gif
Thanks Rosie! She was on the road with the boys at her parent’s house while I had an otherwise busy work weekend, so I know she had a great day! :thumbsup2

You never know when I might sneak up on you.... Remember I don't live THAT far away..:tiptoe:

:scared:

Why yes - it is my lucky number. :goodvibes

Cool! Glad I didn't go with something else, like 17 or 30.

Like gas for all those soccer games you need to get Drew to.:car:

Glad we have cheaper gas in SC than you do in NC at least!!! :drive:

Yup I would be but - now and forever you will always be OLDER than I am. :rotfl2:

Hopefully for a long, long time to come!!! ;)

Just a few of the low calorie snacks I love. :rolleyes1:

I guess it doesn’t help when those things have only 90 calories, so you eat 4 or 5......... :confused3

Summertime seems to bring all the melons out!
I agree that you probably will enjoy them more at Disney. Everything is better at Disney

Actually, I had a really good cantaloupe last night at dinner. Not sure if the ones at Disney are so good because it is Disney, or just because they are so good!!! :goodvibes

We shall see how you can hang with the younger crowd. Come run with us, or at least come watch while we run..

I can hang with the younger crowd just fine. Your goal is to run the 5k, mine would be to take the pictures you can use in your TR........... hey don’t laugh, somebody has to do it for you!!!

Still no Cheese soup - Food and Wine has a booth with it. YUM They need to add the pretzel bread to the menu but it is GUD!!!
Not a big beer fan (hey, I'm a cheap date....what can I say), so I guess I will have to wait until someone in my crowd orders it and I can sample it myself first.........

Just poppin' in !!Marv where are you??????
I made it over to your TR! Still waiting on my prize to arrive in the mail........ popcorn::

Cool! Glad I didn't go with something else, like 17 or 30.

Those are my OTHER favorite LUCKY numbers...Along with #3 ;)
I always get lucky with those. :cool1:

Usually have no problems with cantaoupe even though they are on the "bad" list. Have not had one in a while though..

I was going to do the half with Tim and Barry. Still debating.. Ran today for the first time in weeks it seems. No time to get out and run but I have been able to sneak in some cardio so the run was not horrible, not great but not horrible.
Yes come run or come take pictures.

Don't really taste the beer in the soup. It is yummy you will have to try it. Now to find a way to score some pretzel bread to dip.

Hi Marv! Great to see an update!! I liked the Hidden Mickey picture! I am so bad at spotting them, but luckily in October I had you and Jon to point them out to me! :thumbsup2

I just wanted to say:

I hope you enjoyed a RELAXING Memorial Day weekend! LOVED your latest update, I know with your hectic schedule it is hard to keep up sometimes. Did you know Lisa and Megan are coming to Charlotte in August? Let me know if you want to plan a meet with us! :thumbsup2:yay:

Chapter 6 – DHS Rope Drop and DISMeet

The next day we were supposed to meet Jen and Stitch at DHS for rope drop, and the mad dash for TSMM first thing. After that we would stay together for a while and do some of the other rides while getting a chance to talk some. There was no way we were going to be late for rope drop at DHS because I would never hear the end of it from Jen! I got up early and got ready, then got the boys up to get their showers as they were finally in a mode of joining me for rope drop. Not sure if that was because of the plans with Jen and Stitch, or because they were beginning to see the benefit of hitting the park early before the heat got so unbearable later in the day.

We got to the bus stop and were soon headed out in plenty of time to make rope drop, which was at 9:00am. I can’t remember if this was projected to be a heavy crowd day at DHS or not, but when we got there and made our way to the turnstiles, we knew what it was actually GOING to be. We arrived at the turnstiles and found the shortest line towards the right, so we headed there. I began to scan the crowd at the turnstiles to our left to see if I spotted Jen and Stitch, but never did locate them in the mob of people.

2011-08-02_08-33-10_640.jpg

When they finally let us through the turnstiles we headed quickly to the rope to try and stay ahead of as many people as we could. One of us spotted Jen and Stitch walking up ahead of us, and the boys headed in their direction. I had told Jen (text maybe) that the boys would collect their park passes and fight the crush to get us all Fastpasses while we waited for them at the entrance to TSMM. We would all then head in together and ride Standby before heading off to other rides, coming back later to use our FPs.

There seemed to be a huge crowd towards the right side of the street at the rope, but not that many to the left yet. I wasn’t worried about exactly where I stood since the boys would be making the mad dash for all of us, so I found my way over to the left to try and get as near to the rope as possible. As I looked over to my right I spotted Jen and Stitch at the rope, with Jonathan a few people behind them. I had to get a picture so Jen had some proof she was right up front. Jonathan is right in front of the guy who is holding the large camera a little ways back in the crowd. Can you spot Jen and Stitch up front?

2011-08-02_08-43-56_309.jpg

After I caught Jen’s attention, I pointed back towards Jonathan and when she spotted him, he reached past the crowd and she handed him their passes so he could fight the mob to the FP machines when the time came. I know she trusted Jonathan to not disappear with their park passes, but I’m not sure Jen was so confident Jonathan would get to the FP machines quickly since he was further back. But then, for those who have read Jen’s TR, you will know that Stitch had to wear a protective boot on her one foot to survive all the walking, so she wasn’t the most mobile person in the crowd. Jonathan was still close enough to them so they could chat some back and forth.

2011-08-02_08-44-04_75.jpg

So how close did Marv actually come to finally being at the rope for the first time this trip? Well, pretty stinkin’ close I guess.

2011-08-02_08-47-16_697.jpg

And from Jen’s perspective (a "thumbs up" thanks for sending this photo Jen!)

photobucket-8866-1338067139043.jpg

As the crowd waited for something to happen Jonathan and Andrew took advantage of the time. They have gotten really good at filling in any available space in the crowds at Disney, so they had worked their way forward, getting ever closer to the rope, to the right of Jen’s location.

2011-08-02_08-47-22_130.jpg

The crowds were quickly building behind us as rope drop neared.

2011-08-02_08-47-28_316.jpg

While we were waiting to see if there would be a rope drop Pre-show, I saw a group of CMs heading off to prepare for the mob about to invade the park.

2011-08-02_08-53-00_253.jpg

Just after they went by, I got my answer about whether there would be a Pre-Show or not.........

2011-08-02_08-56-26_35.jpg

As the time to drop the rope neared, I wonder how often the CMs get butterflies about the crush of people that will soon be heading their way???

2011-08-02_08-57-42_556.jpg

Finally the time came and the crowd surged forward, a huge number of which as usual seemed to be heading for TSMM. I managed to stay fairly close to the CMs who walked ahead of the crowd to make sure there was at least SOME organization to the chaos. (Thanks again for another photo Jen!!! Hope you weren't trying to get my "good" side......) :rolleyes1

photobucket-21363-1338033049827.jpg

Since I didn’t have to worry about trying to reach the FP machines, I stayed to the left away from the lunacy, although I almost got run over by a few people and a couple of strollers anyway. I kept looking to my right and spotted Jonathan and Andrew near the front of the mob, positioned perfectly for the entrance to the FP machines. Andrew was ahead of Jonathan who quickly caught up and helped grab the fastpasses. As they headed between the chains that marked off the FP area, I kept going down the left side to locate Jen and Stitch, and wait near the entrance for Jonathan and Andrew to catch up to me. Very quickly they were headed my way, but where were Jen and Stitch??? I didn’t see them anywhere.

I waited with the boys as the crowd of people heading into the standby line kept racing past us, but still no sign of them anywhere. I sent Jen a text to make sure she knew where we were, and told her we would wait inside for them until they caught up. We jumped in the end of the line and headed in. As we made our way through the queue, I decided that the best place to wait as the crowd walked by was at Mr. Potato Head. I sent Jen another text to let them know we were waiting for them there. So we waited..........and waited........as more and more people walked by. Finally I knew there was no way they shouldn’t have easily caught us by then and began to get worried. About that time I got a text back from Jen for us to go ahead and ride, and they would meet us when we came out of the exit.

I was worried about how long we would have to wait to ride because we had let so many people pass us, but when we joined back in the line and moved on, we actually never stopped walking until we got to the top of the steps where you look down into the loading area. We were on the ride very quickly and off having our first fun of the day.

When we exited the ride we found Jen and Stitch waiting for us. Jen had tried to prepare Stitch for the mad crush that is the TSMM dash, but that is something you just have to experience before you can fully understand the chaos. :scared1: With her foot in a walking boot, and the mob pushing and shoving and closing in around her, Stitch thought it best to just move to the side and let the mob clear out some. When Jen couldn’t find her immediately, she retraced her steps until finally locating her. They decided after that harrowing experience they would just wait it out and ride later.

The next thing on our list was to head towards ToT and RnR. The moment of truth had come. Would Jen actually ride ToT this trip??? There were a lot of people on her PTR telling her she had to ride, and I had been given the job of making sure she did. But still, it isn’t like I could carry her through the doors, put her in her seat and make her ride. This was going to be totally on Jen. However, as we stood in line waiting to enter the ride, there was a lot of time for us to keep trying to gently persuade Jen to make that leap (or is that drop) of faith and go for it.

We were having a pleasant conversation as Standby was probably around 30 minutes. Jen was really psyched about riding as you can tell.
2011-08-02_10-11-58_991.jpg

As we made our way through the line I tried to keep everyone occupied looking for Hidden Mickeys. Pretty soon we were waiting to load. Jen had made it this far. The time to back out had come and gone and we all loaded.......Jen was going to do this after all!!! I know what happens on the ride is fairly random, and this was one of the more fun ones I could remember! I heard a lot of squeals and laughter coming from my right, where Jen and Stitch were seated.

When we got off the ride, I had to try and get the obligatory redneck ride photo. Unfortunately it turned out terrible!

2011-08-02_10-30-00_780.jpg

If you want to see a better version, you can check out the one Jen posted in her TR here.........

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=43828894&postcount=456

Jen was so brave, and we all congratulated her on her conquering ToT. So naturally, where do you go next while feeling such a successful ride high??? Well of course it has to be RnR!!! All the way there we kept telling Jen if she made it through ToT, she could easily now conquer RnR. Jen was pretty adamant that ToT was one thing......RnR was a completely different story. Realizing she wasn’t giving in this time, we informed her that she could stay in line with all of us and keep us company, and when we got to the loading platform she could take the chicken exit and wait for us outside. So after at least getting to experience the queue, and find out she could have backstage passes to rock out with Aerosmith at the concert, Jen exited the ride and waited while the rest of us rode.

While we took a quick break, Andrew ran off to grab us all another set of fastpasses for TSMM. When he returned we all talked about what we wanted to do next. Jen and Stitch decided to go ahead and use their TSMM FPs they had gotten that morning, but the boys weren’t ready to do TSMM again so we decided to head off towards the newly updated Star Tours. We all walked along together talking until heading off in different directions. Since we had the ability to text each other, we planned to try and meet up again later in the day somewhere in the park.

Next Up Chapter 7 – Lunch at 50s Prime Time

that's a lot of people for rope drop  yay for surviving the TSM mad dash....haven't done it at WDW but have survived it many times at DLR :)

sounds like you got a lot done before lunch :thumbsup2

I do hope you, Ali and the boys are able to come up to Judy's when we are in town...will let you know details when we get them figured out....sorry again, thought I had sent you a PM about my PTR

Usually if you remember NOT to put premium in your car. :scared1:

I’m guessing there is a story there somewhere???? :confused3

At least 30 years...

You been getting your Palm read and your lifeline is telling you something, or you just think you will wear out by then??? :rotfl:

But then, I guess I would STILL be older........

It is so hard, you get a taste and then you keep going back for more.:lmao:

I wonder if they have an addiction intervention for that???

Usually have no problems with cantaloupe even though they are on the "bad" list. Have not had one in a while though..

Had some really good cantaloupe lately! One of the things I like about the warmer months of the year!!!

Guess I will have to try it sometime. Hopefully will get another trip, and another chance, really soon! :thumbsup2

Hi Marv! Great to see an update!! I liked the Hidden Mickey picture! I am so bad at spotting them, but luckily in October I had you and Jon to point them out to me! :thumbsup2
I’m usually not paying that much attention, but lately I’ve been trying to! :)

Sooooooo, how was the trip to DLP???

I just wanted to say:

I hope you enjoyed a RELAXING Memorial Day weekend! LOVED your latest update, I know with your hectic schedule it is hard to keep up sometimes. Did you know Lisa and Megan are coming to Charlotte in August? Let me know if you want to plan a meet with us! :thumbsup2:yay:
Actually I had to work Memorial Day, but did get a chance to call my Dad and tell him I’m glad we still get to celebrate Veteran’s Day together!!! :goodvibes

Yes, I did stop and reflect on Memorial Day and all of those brave men and women who have given their lives for OUR freedom! I also like to remember those who have served and are still with us......like Pete! Tell him we all appreciate his Service to his Country!!! ::yes::

Oh, and I found Lisa’s PTR about her trip and I subscribed so I can keep up with her plans. I definitely want to make it there to see them while they are there!!! :cool1:

that's a lot of people for rope drop  yay for surviving the TSM mad dash....haven't done it at WDW but have survived it many times at DLR :)

Can't wait for your visit!!!!:cloud9:

Rope drop at DHS is like :scared1:

And there were an aweful lot of people there - thank god your DS was a runner! :thumbsup2
And how nice that your friend Jen got to ride ToT for the first time and loved it. I am sure she will conquer RnRC next time - if you are all there cheering her on. ;)
Sounds like a fun morning .... now on to lunch - YUM!

Oh my...look at all of those people. :scared1::scared1::scared1:

So glad you got to meet up with Jen & Stitch again and conquered TOT (my favorite ride!).

Can't wait to hear about Prime Time as we are going in September for the first time in over 12 years. :)

Actually, after the huge TSMM crush of people there at rope drop, it did seem to spread out pretty well and I don't remember the crowds being that bad!

Jen had ridden ToT before, but is had been quite a while since she had! She seemed to enjoy it, and was happy she did it again, but I'm not sure it will be on her future "must-do" ride list.......... :rotfl:

Personally, I would rather ride RnR all day over ToT as far as ride enjoyment! I think if she would ride it, she would find out it isn't so bad......especially after that initial take off!!!

Our trip to 50's PT was very possibly our best one yet! We were in one section where everyone was "playing" with the "cousins" and having fun, so we could all join in!

Hopefully I will have a couple of 50's PT updates posted before your September trip. Jonathan and I went back again with Magdalene and Katharina when we met them during our short October trip!

And yeah, I know..........you won't be holding your breath on my beating your September trip with so many updates......... :rolleyes1

So how close did Marv actually come to finally being at the rope for the first time this trip? Well, pretty stinkin’ close I guess.

2011-08-02_08-47-16_697.jpg

I have been that close too!!!! :goodvibes

I am sure you needed to provide the organization to that crazy situation. ;)
If you didn't thank Jen for the picture I was going to wonder how you got it.
As for your good side.... :rolleyes1

When we got off the ride, I had to try and get the obligatory redneck ride photo. Unfortunately it turned out terrible!

Those can be so hard to get - even harder if you are short like me.:rolleyes1

Looks like a fun morning out! My plans for DHS are almost the that exact same thing every time. :goodvibes
I will say I do prefer ToT just a smidge over RnR. The randomness and the group you are with makes ToT different almost every time.
