Rides for small children & restaurants

I would like some advice from those of you who have visited DLRP with small children. My little boy will be 21 months when we go. I'm aware that some of the bigger rides have restrictions in place, but out of the other rides which small children were able to go on were there any they didn't like it or were frightened on?

Also which are the best restaurants to take small children?

hi There is loads of ride at fantasy land that young children can go on.. some children may find some of the dark ride scary especially Snow White, my dd was fine however she did cover her eyes a lot! I guess it depend on the child.

As for restaurants a character meal are good for children, however if you child is not used to the characters it maybe a good idea to get them used to the characters first..I am sure most children love them however at one meal there was a child near us screaming the whole time as the characters scared him so much!

I would not worry to much, nearly all the restaurants are very child friendly with special child's menus, colouring stuff to keep them occupied and sometimes a free gift.

Our DD was just under 3 when we went and was terrified of the characters up close so I'd take wideeyes advice and build up to it slowly.

Our DD was a bit scared in Snow White , Peter Pan and Pinnochio 1st time but was okay once she got used to the fact they would be dark.

She loved the carousel , Its a Small World , Dumbo and the flying carpets. she also loved the Tarzan show ,the singing in the rain umbrella and Animagique.

We thought Annettes was the most child friendly restaurant we visited and the Steakhouse the most unchildfriendly due to all the place settings being set at the table. A bit scary if you have a toddler in tow

It will depend on your DS but all of Fantasyland should be fine.
Our DS at 4 was slightly unsure of Phantom Manor whereas DD at 2 was happy with Phantom Manor but did not like Snow White

Explaining what is happening and talking DS through the ride should help.
Thankfully all our troop had no hesitation being hugged by characters so we had nobody frightened.

I'm 40 something and I still haven't found the bottle to go on the Phantom Manor ride! I did go on the Snow White one and enjoyed it though. Might be a bit creepy for some youngsters though

My DD was 26 months when we went for the first time last August. I would completely agree with the above advice. Fantasyland is great, dumbo was especially enjoyed. She did find the characters scary though. Would happily wave to them whilst far away but did not like them up close. Even when Mickey went on his knee, she still didn't like it. She likes watching the video of the studio tour canyon that we took, although at the time she found it rather loud.

Nik you really should go on Phantom Manor, believe me I'm a real scardey cat and I don't do Ghost Trains over here, but It's different I guarantee you'll love it.
Put it on your "list of things to do" in November

Thanks everyone for your help. We're going to take Lucas to Gullivers World soon as they have plenty of rides for the littles ones. They also do a breakfast thing where different 'characters' come and eat with you, so we can see how he reacts to them.

hi we took emma in march and she was 20 months, she hated the characters from near but loved them whilst she was strapped in her buggy, she went on all the rides in fantasy land and loved them, but found snowwhite scarey, but she still went on it a 2nd time, we went to cafe mickeys and sat in a booth so she could see the characters but not be to near them and she had a wonderful time same as plaza gardens, loved the characters but wouldnt' go anywhere near them for a photo.
enjoy, and we love gullivers world, emma loves the characters there but somehow the characters at disney are bigger. i am sure you will be fine.

I think if I was travelling with family/friends I might give it a go but I'm going on my own so I do feel a bit awkward! It's odd really coz I love horror films and can sit through the worst of them without flinching a hair. Just can't do ghost trains.

It goes back to an incident when I was little and some idiot decided it might be a clever idea to scare two little girls riding a local Jungle ride [similar to Snow White] on their own. I've always found them a bit unsettling ever since.
