ok, this may seem a really strange and stupid question, but please hear me out....there is a method to my madness...

we are 2 adults to 3 kids. If there is a long line for an attraction we want to see...say Nemo (since my son has been a Nemo FREAK since birth and can recite the entire movie by heart!!), can dd (the easiest of the 3 to amuse) stand in line with me while dh takes the boys to another ride to pass the time while we wait in line?

I ask because we have an amusement park here that frowns on "holding spots" in line like this, because it can be misleading to the folks in line after you (they think it's nearly their turn, and then the rest of your party shows up making the line in front of them even longer....)

Is this also frowned upon in DL?

Once again, I apologize for all the strange questions....but what can I say - I am an absolutely ANAL planner!!

Let the debates begin! ;)

There is no "official DLR policy" on this. I say it's ok. There are many, many others who will say it is not. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! :goodvibes

Just like other amusement parks ... no cuts. Please make use of the Fast Pass option or visit the parks during value season to avoid long lines.

Again, you will have a group of people that think the rules do not apply to them because they have "special" needs. But the fact remains that WDW is busy, you will wait in lines, and you are requested to only join the line when your ENTIRE party is together.

Thanks to all of you who follow the rules.

It can be frustrating when you see that maybe you're only a few minutes away from boarding a ride only to see 10 people jump in front of you because they were off riding while one person held the spot in line. There are a lot more things to get upset about though. Some lines though...that just won't work. For example, the jungle cruise, the line twists turns goes up stairs and down stairs ....once youre group is in line you may not have a way back in. (Well not without a fight anyway). We played eye spy games when we were in line....we talked about the ride we were about to get on, maybe even pull out some snacks etc etc....things you can do to pass the time. Have a great time on your trip.

Wrong board, VAN. We're a little more relaxed over here on the West Coast. ;)

I agree with MommywithDreams that there are some rides where logistically it just won't work. The only rides where I see this working is where there are open, outdoor ques, and the line is easily accessed without pushing your way through the long line to get to your party. Nemo, Matterhorn and Dumbo come to mind.

I also agree that doing this with 2-3 people (1 adult, two very small children) is ok. Anymore than that, is a bit rude.

guess I inadverdently opened a can of worms with this one - sorry!

If there were any more of us, I wouldn't dream of doing it - it's just if we have to wait in a really long line, I assume people might rather NOT listen to 2 screaming boys and a 1 year old girl with a screech that would shatter glass!!! The only ride I'd consider doing this with is Nemo - since it is probably the only one we can't just distract them from with another, less busy, ride. And since there is no FP for Nemo, our options are kind of limited. Just thought I would "feel things out" here before I get there. If we don't have to do it, we won't. Hopefully we'll be able to do Nemo during EE, and it won't even be an issue.

Thanks everyone, once again, and sorry if I caused any problems!

Carm, no worries! Just so you know, for the first several weeks after Nemo opened, CM's were actually encouraging parents to spit their parties and have some wait while the others went and enjoyed another attraction or got some food. So, it's not something that is completely against the rules.

This personally makes me really frustrated. That is what the fast pass system is for. It gets me really frustrated when I think "YAY! i am there" and then a family butts in front (regardless of the number in the party). It's also even more frustrating when the people go through the entire line to catch up to the family.

Sorry to say that one incident on Soaring when a guy brought a total of no less than ten people into line when we were like.... three feet from boarding has tainted my opinions on this...

10ppl NO 3 or maybe 4 ppl well it depends on you'll own family and needs. Now what I have done is go sit at the nearest place. But I would turn and tell the few ppl behind me whats up and that i will be back. I am usely vary polite.

I see no problem with what you want to do and yes I have had CMs tell me to split the party up while waiting in a long line. (heck at disney world we were in three hour line for mission everist. We had to leave a fget drinks and bathroom. then as we got up to the top the ride broke down.) then we decied go to inosur witch broke as we were line too (bad day that time)

While on our DL trip, we had people with young children "cut in" several times. As the mother of a toddler, that honestly *never* bothers me. EVER!! Frankly, many rides with long lines (think Peter Pan here!) don't offer Fast Pass. 30-45 minutes in line for a child under 4 is cruel and unusual torture!:scared1:

That said, though...I know there are many uncomfortable with cutting of any kind, so we just waited with our 2 year old, and skipped on any rides with longer than a 15-20 minute wait. It was a pain. I wish we could have done some splitting up a bit to make it easier.

Good Luck , Carm.....I really think most people would be understanding if it is for very young children.

I have to sound like a prude on this one. I can certainly understand why you'd want to do this. I stood in line with my 3 antsy ones often and now I'll be in line in May with my 5 antsy grandchildren. However..No-one wants to stand in line, kids especially, and most people there have kids who are just as antsy. So, if everyone decided it was ok 'just for their 2 or 3' the lines would be a total mess and it would be unfair to those who stuck it out. How fair is it to a kid who has waited to be cut off by some who just won't?
Snacks, games, fast passes or a dash to that most favorite ride first is the best solution IMO

I would say no cuts, all should wait. I have been many times with my moms club (when I lived in CA). One time we had 24 kids under 6 and 8 moms. We all waited. Granted the kids had each other to entertain themselves. But I would say that *most* families are there with small children as well and wait it out with the kids. Find something fun to do in line, bring snacks. I collected little Disney trinkets before our trip from the Disney store. When we got into a line that would be long, I just pulled out a little toy when my dd got antsy and she was thrilled to pieces. Easy distraction.princess:

I agree.

Of course, I was also rather peeved by the number of people who just shoved their way through lines to catch up with their parties, with not a single "excuse me" or anything. If there is an easy way to get back into the line, then if one family member steps out of line to go get water, or run to the bathroom, and he/she waits to rejoin the line where he/she didn't have to push through the rest of the line, then I have no problem.

For me personally I have to agree that no more then 3-4 people to budge if it happens. If more then that I think its down right rude especially if the people budging in are teenage to adults.

See I dont have a problem if say a mom is waiting and a dad and his little kids come along to join up. I have to tell myself that the kids are small, some need to go to the bathroom or be changed, some need drinks in the heat, some are gonna be totally crabby in the lineups and would be best to keep them totally amused. I keep telling myself that when you keep fussing with all that your wasting park time, and if you only have one day to spend at disneyland with younger children you will feel the need to cram in as much time as possible, so any opportunity to save some time is a bonus.

Other then this I find no excuse.

Its often frown upon, but what i do suggest you do would be to enter the line at the beginning, wait like 10 min, bail out making some lame excuse, hit a ride and come back. At least, "OTHER" people would think you really just went to the bathroom :D

BUT, it doesnt really matter. Yes, other guest wouldnt be happy about it, but you do what you think its right. I dont think a CM would purposely kick someone out of line esp on a 2 hours line... :|

Carm,
I'm okay when I see:
1) obviously the same nuclear family unit rejoining each other not 15 friends and 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins suddenly surging into the line at the last minute.
2) a case where mom/dad/grandma or pa had to take junior to the potty and comes back to join the main group already in line.
3) a special needs child is taken into the line to rejoin his/her family at the last minute with a family member. That's just basic kindness.

Not going to bash, I have done it. But just FYI, we were in DL early December on weekdays & we went to Nemo on an EE day. Of course almost everyone went to Nemo, but the line moved pretty quick & our wait was only around 45 min at most. Probably only 35-40 really.

We've only done it once but my kids are older and can deal with the longer lines. I felt guilty about it but it was our last day, we hadn't done PP yet it was an early closing day and the kids had to go. I waited in the line while dh tooks the girls to the bathroom (I'm better about waiting than he is). They got back pretty quickly but I was already in an area where they would have had to push their way through the line. They waited to rejoin me until I got to a place where it was easy for them to "jump" the "ropes".

It's not something I'm comfortable doing but I understand especially where they are little kids involved and I really don't mind if it really doesn't slow the line down. On PP it meant that the people behind us got on one boat later than they would have. I'm not a fan of holding a place for the whole family espcially if it's all adults or teenagers.

last year I stood in line for the jungle cruise with my son....probably close to 30 minutes when right after getting down the stairs he had to go potty. :headache: Getting out of the line was a real pain....but when you gotta go you gotta go. Wish we could have gotten back in but it just wasn't going to happen.
