Rider Switch changing (Started June 16th)

The two Tier 1 thing is a tooootally different issue. That is people gaming the system. I do not believe that many people do that, we certainly don’t, and it will stop when the digital RS comes out.

We always get FP for everyone and then convert to RS when needed

It is all related. You combine that with a guest can come back with the RS person and a tall enough person could theoretically do one tier 1 ride twice and a second tier 1 ride with only one FP.

Any trip planning is about making comprimises. If I go with a bunch of friends it may be that one person hates ToT or doesn't want to get wet on Splash Mountain so we plan FPs for things everybody wants to do and if SB permits those that want to can still try to hit ToT while they wait. Or you say, we'll get FP for ToT which we know you don't like but then we'll also get small world FPs because we know you love it (I know those are different parks but just an example). That is the nature of trip planning.

Absolutely - and we do that as well .... but I do think it is different when one member of the party just doesn't "want" to do something vs "not able to due to rules that Disney as defined" - It isn't that my son didn't want to ride Test Track it's that Disney won't allow him to (and for good reason due to safety, but Disney elected to create rides that have height restrictions, yet market to families with kids of all ages, so make some accommodations to those families seems reasonable to me)

The difference being in a group of friends, an adult can sit out alone. Not the same situation at all

Not really because you still have to plan your FPs around what people can and cannot do. If one person in the group refuses to ride ToT do we still get ToT FPs for everybody and they theirs be wasted so the people that want to go on it can or do we get FPs for something else. The issue of possibly wasting a FP is still in play and how to accomodate the group. Same situation as a too short person having to get a FP for a ride they cannot ride so they can get the 4th FP with the group later on.

How do you get the other Tier 1 ride? I don’t understand. If all people in your party get a FP for a ride, then convert the waiting adult and 2nd child to a RS, they ride the same ride second time. Where is the other Tier 1 coming from?

right, but if the new system checks first that everyone in the party has FP for the first ride, that would eliminate that loophole that enables people (currently) to get on two different Tier 1 rides using only 1 FP

Agree with that and that is why some type of RS system is absolutely needed and why basically every park has some type of system for it. Even Six Flags (my home park but one of the worst at customer service) has a kid swap system available.

I think we are saying the same thing. I have zero problem with wasting a FP for my 3yo because she can’t ride TT. I still get it so we can burn it and get to the 4th as a group, but I don’t feel like she’s been shorted or missing out. She’s too short. She’ll ride the next thing instead. It doesn’t bother me.

Ugh. Not super excited that this may be starting in the middle of our trip!

Why does WDW have so much trouble with technology? We never have these problems at DL!

Disney in general has a lot of issues with technology - their booking systems often go down or have issues.

Has the wifi gotten better in Disneyland? I saw a lot of complaints from people about that there (especially international tavelers who dont' really have the option of using data)

Under the current system everybody in the party dosn't have to have a FP for a ride so you split who gets a FP for ride A and ride B. Obviously this part is changing in a few days so really doesn't matter but probably one of the reasons it is changing.

Off topic but which is why I am dreading a month from now when disney rolls out their own race registration service for marathon weekend. I'm expecting it to be a disaster.

I've seen a lot of people worried about that. We are thinking of doing our first RunDisney event next year - but targeting the Wine and Dine which I don't think will have open registration for a while so hopefully they get all the kinks worked out before then!

It isn’t that it was bad. It is that we have hot spots instead of park wide wi-if. You have to be right on top of the hot spot. I wonder if it is because DL is in the middle of a city/residential area and if they made it too strong people outside the park could use it. I personally turn my wi-fi off at DL because it kills my battery trying to search for, connect and drop the signal all day long.

I definitely reccomend the rundisney events. I do at least 2 a year. Very well done events. The only downside is the 3am wakeup calls (especially 4 days in a row for Dopey). A lot of fun though.

I hear nothing but good things (well, other than the $) ... we are not big time runners (well, my wife is better than me, she just hates it - I am just out of shape and have some asthma) so no Dopey Challenge for us - thinking of doing the 5K and 10K

I did the last Star Wars Light Side at DL. I didn’t stay on site since I am local, that was more like a 2:30am wake up call for me. Yikes!! So fun though, I’m glad I got to do one of the last ones before DL stopped doing them.

But yeah, $$$$$ And so many people walk the whole 10K. You can do it!!

I did all the DL LS races plus the first avengers race (that santa anna wind that day was brutal but that isn't disney's fault). Since I'm in GA can only really justice a DL trip for something like a race so hope they start them up again.

To get back on topic a bit, when I went to DL for races I was mostly going solo and I had gotten to the point where I knew how to maximize the FP system there (unfortunatly they changed it now). Since you could have a FP active in each park at a time I would go from park to park all day and then also got a new FP before getting in line for my current one and kept track of the 2 hour window. I was able to get a ton of FPs in a day that way but was a hell of a lot of walking to do it. Again, something I could only really pull off on a solo trip.

Ok see now... a family using RS can NOT do anything nearly that efficient. So you can and do ride way more than us, we really don’t have an advantage. We have a courtesy so we can enjoy a ride with our kids. We also have diaper bags and strollers and kids who walk reeeaallly slow and take a ridiculous amount of potty and snack breaks. While you are riding more rides than us!

That is/was definitely a nice feature at DL - getting to have FP in both parks. We did a that a bit, even with the kids. For example, I was waiting in a character meet line with the 3 kids in DLR while my wife ran over to DCA to get FP for something over there

They changed that system too so it doesn't work like that anymore. Was good while it lasted. I was worn out at the end of the day with 30000 or more steps showing so I had to work for it. It is all changed and different now.

So, post number 500 and we still don't have much concrete, including start date! That said, I've heard it's actually starting this week and not next, and will indeed be like the DAS in terms of returns.
