Rider Switch changing (Started June 16th)

“If the person in Party 2 waited alone with the child, he or she may bring one other Guest back to ride the attraction with him or her.”

They have always allowed 2 other guests at the park, but it clearly states that the adult who waited alone may bring a guest back with them. So we are doing absolutely nothing wrong by bringing the tall-enough child on the return ride.

Yes, it's definitely allowed for the child(ren) to ride again. I think PP was just pointing out that the point of RS is so both PARENTS can ride (with the child)....not just so the kids get multiple rides.

It’s not about letting the kid ride twice. It’s about letting the parent experience it with their kids.

How many of you saying Not fair, get rid of it actually have kids of varying heights that can and can’t ride, and take them to the parks? As a parent, the opportunity to get to experience the ride with my kids and not just have to ride alone is very much appreciated. If it’s not something that benefits you, just don’t worry about it. I don’t care much about riding a bunch of rides alone, I care about experiencing them with my family.

It isn't fair. Why should a kid who is tall enough to ride a ride get to ride it twice while an adult with no kids only gets to ride once?

I'm not saying you are doing anything wrong. You are using the system as designed. I'm seeing now though why the system needed changes

right, the main "goal" of RS is so both parents/all members of the party that are tall enough to ride can ride without having to separately wait in the standby line ... but to enable no one to have to ride alone you are able to bring people with you including those that have ridden before so

I don’t know why anyone would use it that way, but no they shouldn’t. With the digital RS, the CM would actually be able to stop that. They can clearly see who is sitting out with the child and that person’s band gets scanned along with whoever they are bringing back. I suppose someone could just send the kids on the second trip and not go, but reality that is probably rare.

You must not have children. The kid should not “get to ride twice” The parent should get to experience the ride with their kid and not have to ride alone.

Yes and if you read Disney’s website that is exactly what they are saying you may do. So that adult does not have to ride alone.

The kid still gets to ride twice. Call it what you want but that is the result which results in a longer wait time for everybody else due to the creation of a new FP.

Stop what? The new digital system won't prevent the same child from riding again. It is clearly written in the policy that the same child(ren) can ride twice.

I don't have kids and I get it. Why is it a problem for the tall-enough kid to ride twice?

I doubt it has much effect on wait times. On some rides the person would be in a row alone, anyway, why not have the extra person there?

Well, I don’t know if you have kids, but I do and I enjoy getting to ride the rides with them.

I think those complaining the loudest don’t have a need for this policy and since it doesn’t benefit them, it is unfair. Look at the bigger picture, please. Even when we outgrow RS, I will happily wait a few extra minutes so that another Mom or Dad can enjoy the ride with their kids and have just as much of an amazing time as I am having with mine.

It’s not always about you ;-)

I am also confused by the comment earlier that RS passes should be able to be used by anybody on the F&F list. Again back to the original purpose. Parent A rides. Parent B watches the kid while A rides. Why should person Z who didn't help watch the kid then be able to use the RS? That makes zero sense to me.

I do have one other question. If the kids do not have to be with you to get a RS what is to stop an unscrupulous person from going up, saying they need a RS and their wife/husband is outside the building and getting a RS pass they can use to bring their buddy in 2 days?

Stop someone from getting the RS and giving it to someone else. I thought they were suggesting a parent was sending their kids alone the second time. That shouldn’t happen, the CM will scan the adult waiting and the people they want to take, not 3 teens.

Every single RS we have ever gotten, the kid had to be there. Also; the new digital system will be scanning the waiting adult’s magic band so the entire party has to be present. Also those new RS will have a time limit. At DL we have one hour.

I get wanting to ride with the kids. I really do. But some people getting to ride twice and others not is not fair for everybody. RS IMO should be able making sure the people who are tall enough to ride can ride without waiting in the SB line when one has to watch the kids not about people riding multiple times. I think the plan of person A rides while B and kid are at loading platform (or in a room) then when they come back, B hops on and rides is the best way to do it. There needs to be a system like this absolutely but my only issue is with the system letting certain people ride more then once when I may not be able to get a FP on that ride at all.

I thought earlier in the thread I saw somebody comment that this new policy would require them to bring all the kids to the ride entrance wheras now they could take them somewhere else while the first parent rides. If I misread then I apologize.

It may not be "fair", but that's how it works and I don't see that changing. They are not going to force the second adult to ride alone.

Again, no parent wants that system. Have you ever waited in a long line with a 2 year old, kept them entertained, were not allowed to have a stroller? Nope. Sorry, that is NOT better. Universal does that and as a result I literally did not ride a single ride on our trip in January because the lines were all 90-240 minutes. Plus you would have dozens of people waiting at the loading area, DL is a family theme park, it is not practical at all.

It is NOT about letting a kid ride twice. I think you need to change your perspective and look at it from the point of view of a parent who is just trying to enjoy the theme park with their family, with kids of different ages and needs, and trying to make everyone happy while also having some semblance of a good time themselves. Put yourself in someone elses’s shoes.:-) You can always get another FP if you want to ride a second time. RS is basically just another FP. (except for maybe a very small number of rides)

You all have to go to the entrance, get scanned, and then the waiting adult can take the too-short child wherever they want

Two quick things:
- overall having to deal with Rider Switch overall makes the day less efficient - this isn't some amazing deal people with members in the party too short for some rides get ... I am very much looking forward to not having to deal with this
- If they enforce the everyone has to have a FP for the ride, then the FP for the members too short to ride get wasted as they would need a FP for the ride they are too short to ride (thus can't use it) and you can't give them a FP for a different ride that they could go on b/c they are too young to ride by themselves on those rides

So while some kids might get to ride twice (increasing the people in the FP line) there are also "wasted" FP which reduces the number in the FP line ... so I sort of see it as the tall enough kid just takes the spot the shorter kid would occupy

Already now you are suppose to bring everyone to the front of the line to show the CM who the too short child is and who would be swapping, etc. to get the paper rider switch

However, not all CMs enforce this and often as long as they can see the rest of the party and see the too short child, that is good enough (sometimes they don't even ask for this). But even now you should need to all be there to get the rider switch, and THEN you can take the too short child and do something else while the first part of the party rides the "big" ride

The difference now is all the Magic Bands would have to be at the front of the ride to get the electronic rider switch. I suppose it could still work like in the past where some of the party goes up and carries with them all the magic bands while the other part stays back (it can often be pretty congested at the front of the queue especially if you have a young one sleeping in a stroller or something
