Rider swap update!

I just counted mine I have 30 rider swap re entry passes and 2 ( well 3 but one is for ice cream) no strings attached That I have not used I am ike you wish I used them but would never in a million years sell them ( I have given some away to people I have seen at disney) most of the time I get a rider swap pass is becuse I am being nice to a CM and they just give me one ( or a few)

I'm intrigued by the ice cream one, what is that? And I've handed a few out on my way out of the park as well. It's kinda funny b/c my DS wasn't happy about it the one time b/c he wanted to ride 7 Dwarfs with me but we just ran out of time and as we are heading out I handed it to a family who were coming in. The kid of the family we gave it to was so excited b/c he didn't think they would get to ride it. So then my DS understood better and now wants to give away all the RS passes we get. ha! We also had the opposite happen, we gave it to one family and they had no clue what it was and they were kinda like "uh, ok?".

it is easy if there is someone too small to ride a ride then you all go up to the line ask the CM for a rider swap pass one adult stays with too small kids ( or kids) and then they can ride when everyone else gets off ( with 2 or 3 people)

Oh, I did not realize guests were also given a paper ticket as well. I just understood the protocol of each adult going separately and waiting with the child. This makes more sense and makes sense why the change in protocol could be a bigger deal. Thank you for the information!

The only spot where it was a pain was Soarin' b/c they had to come down to the entrance of the ride instead of heading straight for Nemo when we split up
I had to show my too short child at Soarin also but others have reported that it is not supposed to be required??

each ride is different but still the same some ride you will get a lanyard and when you go in the line you give it to a CM that will give you a rider swap pass ( they are like the old paper FP) then when the first group is done the second group goes in the FP line.

This past week we got swaps on Splash, Big Thunder, Soarin, Test Track, Tower of Terror, and FOP. We were only asked about our too short child at Tower of Terror. But I was ready nearby just in case for everything. Also at FOP we received the swap without having to scan both bands for FP's, even though we both had them. So we ended up being able to both ride individually on those FPs and then gifted the rider swaps for it to a family on our way out.

ETA: For the FOP line, my daughter was in hysterical tears not wanting me to ride something without her... so this may have influenced the CM's decision not to make us both scan. I felt horrible mommy guilt!

As long as they keep it same day that solves the vast majority of the issues. I would guess that very few people go in to use a rider swap expecting it to be good for additional days (and I bet a lot of people don't even realize it's good all day) so it shouldn't take much planning to find a way to use it same day. I don't think Disney ever made the dates end of month for the benefit of the guest anyway - I'm fairly certain it was to just not have to deal with printing them every day so they could just do a supply for each ride once or twice a month.

The only abuse that they're concerned about cutting down on is the transfer/sale of the passes to others. That is a legitimate concern with no possible argument in favor of it. Hopefully we can stop having the inane arguments with people trying to shame others for using the swap in ways permitted under the current rules because of the way they think it really should work.

Half this thread is the joy of giving them to others, so as long as there is paper anything, transfers will continue to happen. The only way to get rid of distribution is to tie it to bands, and when they do that it will solve all the issues because it will allow CMs to see who has the appropriate FPS when using the FP line and distribute RS according to policy.

And for the record, just because you are certain of your own correctness on an issue doesn’t make opposing discussion inane. Whether you agree or not, not everything that is permitted is considered ethical by everyone, and as long as a message board invites conversation, pointing out those ethical considerations seems completely justified.

I think that all depends on the CM. I've had CM's hand me the lanyard without even asking where the non-riding child and my DW were at 7 Dwarfs and I've had CM's ask me at rides when there was only 15-20 minute wait posted.

Am I suppose to get a FP for the child too short for FOP? We will be doing rider swap. If we don't need FP for short child, then what would we do with the spare FP?

We have given many of ours away because sometimes it just doesn't fit into our plans to use them...even FOP (well deserved because young grandson dropped his Goofy hat and OP picked it up and gave it back to him.) :)

Depends on who you ask. Some people here say that you just dont get a FP for that child, and its the cost of using RS. Others say you only need a FP for one parent, then the other parent and small child can get a FP for another ride to ride during the wait to keep the baby occupied. This is totally permitted by the rules, and we have never had an issue with it working that way. If both parents have a FP, there would be no benefit to even having RS for FP riders because you enter into the FP line with the RS ticket anyway. This is part of a previous posters comment on inane debates about using RS in ways that are permitted by the rules.

It is your choice how you choose to use the swap system. Both options are permitted by Disney, though there have been a couple if people reporting that CMs have argued about whether everyone needs a FP on 7DMT and FOP. However, when we called Disney, the CM we spoke to said it is absolutely allowed for some of us to have a different FP reservation than the others, and to use the RS ticket to ride the height restricted ride without a FP. SO that is the assumption we are going with for this trip and if there is a problem then we will have to ask to speak to a supervisor because it IS permitted by the rules.

The RS allows you to ride with someone and not have to ride by yourself even if you still have FP for that ride. IMO, it's easier to schedule all of us for the same FP and use RS when necessary. I usually browse shops or get a snack for the young grandson while waiting.

Just EE. We did not need a swap for 7 dwarfs so I did not see that ticket. We got swaps for Test Track, RNR and Splash...these all expired 4/30.

Interesting. My friend’s TT swap over spring break was definitely same day.

I am only speaking specifically about Soarin'. Because you have to leave the stroller outside the building to go in to the ride. A few people have reported that CMs have told them there is no need to take the child all the way inside the building to show proof. The CM indicated that this was policy for Soarin' only. I was required to show my child on Soarin' in June 2017, but I believe the other reports are more recent than my experience.

You could schedule them and the waiting adult a FP for something with no ride restriction for approximately the same time or another time of the day.

Do you have to go through the entire ride queue and request a rider swap pass when you reach your ride turn or can you simply go up to the ride’s attending CM and request it before entering the queue. I have never done the rider swap, but will need to for this upcoming trip. Any info on how this whole process works would be helpful :o

But by doing that, the too short child loses the opportunity to use his FP for something he is able to ride and enjoy.

It depends on the ride some rides give you s laynard and the you give the laynard to the CM inside the line. For the pass

We were with friends off and on last week who were traveling with a baby -the only ride we did together where they asked for rider switch was FOP.

I was with the first party to ride, we all went to the beginning of the line including the baby and the dad was given an lanyard at the start of the line. All of us in the first group to ride entered and the rest left to do something else. Just before boarding the CM loading took the lanyard from the dad and gave him the paper rider swap pass, it expired that day.
