Rider swap question

Mom, Dad + twins... 1 adventurous, 1 timid.

For Goofy Barmstormer (or any roller coaster), should I book 4 FP, or 2 FP?

If I book 4 FP, Dad takes adventureous twin and mom waits with timid twin with own FP. Then swap. Mom takes adventure twin (with timid twin magic band) and Dad waits with timid twin. So adventure twin gets to ride 2x and mom and dad each ride 1x.

Or do we use rider switch (which I don't really understand)? Would I just book 2 FP for dad and adventure twin for coaster? They get some kind of pass as they go thru line? Book mom and timid twin FP on IASW at same time? Then meet up. Mom takes adventure twin on coaster again (but neither one has a FP?). Dad and timid twin just hang out and wait. Or how would it work?

Thank you.

Personally, I would book 4 FP and use them as you described. When a child is tall enough to ride but does not want to, sometimes the CM will give a Rider Switch pass and sometimes they will not. Instead of worrying about it, I would just book the 4 FP.

In your situation I think booking 4 Fastpasses would be just as easy.
Also I would think that you'd all want to go on other attractions like IASW together so I'd just have timid twin hang out for the duration of both rides with adventurous twin and then move on to something everyone will want to go on.

How old are your twins? If they are littles I would rider swap. Do 2 FP for barnstormer and 2 for something else nearby like Ariel or Under the Sea. Then flip with the RS and do dumbo standby. Timid twin shouldn't have to miss out on rides. If they are older I would say that RS isn't really designed for this.

I would book a different set of FP+ for the "timid" child and one parent to enjoy while the other parent and child ride a coaster. Personally I wouldn't make one of my kids wait not only once but twice for the "non timid" child to ride twice just because they aren't ready for a coaster.

The parents can alternate riding coasters/non coasters and take turns with each child.

Also - In my experience you don't always get a paper rider swap pass if the child is eligible to ride but chooses not to so IMHO its best not to plan on that. If its a choice not to ride you can all wait the line together (FP+ if you all have them or standby) and then follow the CM's instructions on how to switch if you choose that route.
