Rider Swap question

Hey Everyone,

We are planning a trip to DL next March - My Husband, DD8, DD7, DS4, DS1, and Myself. Originally, My Mom was to join us, but she is ill, and can no longer go. She was going to help with my sons while we took the girls on rides like Indy or California Screamin, or stay with baby while the rest of us went on RSR and like rides... now that she isn't going, we have to use Rider Swap.

How many kids to one adult can use the Rider Swap? If my husband and 3 kids go on Space Mountain while I stay with the baby, do I have to ride alone? What if all three want to ride again with me?

Also, I plan on keeping one bigger kid with me so the switch is balanced, but if there's an instance like I need to nurse the baby, and the four of them go ride something... that's why I'm asking... not to cut with like a giant family over and over again.

The rider swap pass allows 3 people total. The good thing about the ages of your older two kids is that the 8 year old and the 7 year old do not need to have an adult sit next to them or behind them in the ride vehicle. So, one adult can ride with all 3 kids in order to get the swap card, but only 2 kids and one adult will be able to use it later.

The swap pass is good for three people to ride again. If all three older kids want to ride with your spouse and then with you, I recommend first getting FPs to the ride for everyone in your group. Then, have your spouse ride with the three kids right after the FP window opens up and get a rider switch pass. Then, you go back with all three older kids, and use the rider switch and the extra FP (yours, that you weren't able to use because your were sitting out with the baby) before the end of the FP window. That way, only the adult has to sit out with the toddler and the older kids all get to ride twice.

The pass will allow up to 3 guests. However, you can use FP with rider swap passes as long as the time is still good. So if your FP time is 3:00 to 4:00, you can send husband with 3 kids using 4FPs. They stand in the FP line and hopefully get off within 30 minutes. Now you can take the kids with the rider swap and the 1 remaining FP. Rider swap passes are very nice. To get the Rider Swap pass you will usually all have to go to the ride because they want to see the non-riders.

Also, I breastfed my son on benches in the park. But he was only 3-weeks old at the time and would eat anywhere. If you have trouble with feeding your youngest because he's larger and/or easily distracted, there are very nice Baby Care centers in the parks. The one at DCA is just behind the Ghiradelli chocolate factory, and oh so close to Carsland. It would be a very nice place to hang out while your husband and other kids ride RSR.

Oh and don't worry about feeling that your family is "cutting" in line and riding over and over. The rider swaps are nice, but I can't wait until we can all ride together. It does take extra time and it is frustrating to have to separate during your family time. DS will finally be tall enough for most rides when we go next time, but we're having a new baby so we're starting all over again.

We are traveling with a 9,8 and 4 yo. If we go on a ride and the little one doesn't or cant ride, do I have to wait in line all the way to the fron to get the rider swap pass? Or will there be a staff member closer to the end of the line or entrance of the ride?

They actually won't let the kids who are too small in line. Let the CM at the entrance to the line know you need one- they will either give you one there or tell you where to get one. The only ride that actually asked to see me and our baby to ensure we actually had one was RSR (we weren't there because we were watching where the cars come down the track, so they gave dh a necklace and had us come later to verify before we got that one). It was nice with the little one to not worry about standing in line and do another ride or distraction they are able to do while we waited :-)

do you have to use the rider swap right away? or could you potentially use it a few hours later in the day? Is it just the ride swap token(or whatever they give you) that allows you to get on the ride or is it attached to you magic band like a FP?

There are no magic bands at DL. You can use the rider swap pass any time during the same day. It has an expiration date on it, but no time. So if you feel like saving it for the afternoon you can. We often saved them for later in the day, unless we didn't feel like going back to that area of the park. Sometimes we would end up not using them. I love Space so I would ride first with my DD while my husband waited with DS. He might choose to ride Star Tours with DD, since he loves it. Then we would save the swap passes for later and never get to them. This was okay with us as we both rode what we wanted to and DD got to ride both rides so she was happy.
