Friends who live in FL want us to join them for a day at IOA in November. We'll have our 21 month old DD with us. Does IOA offer a rider or child swap like Disney does?

Yes. I personally have never used it but I believe you all wait in line together unlike Disney and right before ride one waits in room with the little one and then you switch.

I haven't used it either but I think most people on the Uni boards would say Universal's child swap is better than Disney's.

Universal's Child swap is awesome, we used it on our first trip
when my youngest was only 4 and couldn't ride the bigger rides

Ripsaw Falls is great, they have their own room to hang out in,
and my oldest son had it made, he kept getting to ride over and over
with me and his Dad

I'm wondering how it's better. :confused3

If this description is accurate,

then everyone is waiting in line, including the kid who is too short to ride and the parent who is staying with the non-riding child.

With WDW's system, the child doesn't have to stand in line, and the parent waiting with the child can take the child somewhere else (another ride, a show, shopping, food, etc.), then come back later to use the child swap pass.

So does this mean you can just keep swapping around as much as you like, even if there is a queue? We will be using this later in the year so was just wondering

Some would consider Disneys better im sure...I used Disneys last year during our "family" vacation and no one was ever together since someone had to sit out with kids. Even though I havent used system yet for Universal I do believe I would enjoy the way they do it better. Just my personal opinion though.

As I posted before, I haven't used child swap since I don't have any children to swap so I'll leave the details to someone who has used it before. There have been plenty of posters in the past who have said Universal's chip swap is better. Hopefully someone will post their experiences with both.

I haven't used Disney's swap, but correct me if I'm wrong in Disney you get a pass, then you have to take that child swap pass back through the fastpass line? So if people are waiting to ride in the fastpass lane you may have to wait, where in Universal you get on the ride right after you make the swap. They also have child swap rooms that are air conditioned so you aren't waiting outside in the heat.

That is correct.

Is the child swap at Universal only available if the child doesn't meet the height requirement? I have a 10 year old that won't ride the rollercoasters, but he is tall enough for all of them.

No it works even if your child is tall enough to ride. We used it for my daughter who was 7 at the time and tall enough, but didn't want to ride Men In Black.

I've done both Disney and Universal's child swaps and I like both of them. They both have pros/cons, but this is why I really like Universal's. It provides everyone a much needed A/C break from the hot summer sun!:umbrella:
