So I had an awesome time at WDW in 2008 and again earlier this spring... But I still avoided the "scariest" rides. I don't like thrill rides, especially ones with big drops or ones where you can shift around in the car a lot. But I really, really want to ride Space Mountain this time. Can anyone recommend an order to go in, so I can "work my way up" to Space Mountain next week? For reference, I did okay with Tower of Terror and would ride it again, and I LOVE Dinosaur, it's probably my favorite ride, next to Haunted Mansion. I also really enjoy Soarin. I did okay on the Harry Potter and Spiderman rides at Islands of Adventure, mostly because I thought they were too fun to be scary (admittedly, screamed a little on the hippogriff kiddie coaster though...). But, have yet to ride Big Thunder Railroad, Splash Mountain, Expedition Everest, Rockin Rollercoaster, Test Track, etc.

Advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

My daughter hated all those rides, with the exception of Space Mountain which she rated as "awesome". It did seem pretty tame to me.

Ride scariness is so subjective so you won't really know for sure about any of them until your try it for yourself.

You said you liked TOT, but I don't have any plans to do it again, even though I generally like thrill rides.

That said, here's the order I would recommend:
BTMR
Test Track
Splash
Space
EE
RnRC

Others may have different orders since the scary element of each of those rides can differ.

I'm the chicken in my family who doesn't want to try anything but on my last trip to DLR I went onto space Mountain and it wasnt that bad. It was in the dark with a lot of curves but nothing too scarry. I'm going to do it at WDW and also try Expedition Everest as I like the matterhorn at DLR so I think I can do that and the biggie for me is I'm gonna do The Mummy at Universal Orlando. As far as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, it's a little shaky and bumpy but no big deal. I like this one... I also like splash mountain too.. Not a big deal on this one either, Enjoy your trip!

I'm a slowly recovering ride wimp; as an adult on our family WDW trips, I've gone from basically not riding anything remotely *thrilling* to essentially working my way through this list (haven't done RnRC and probably won't -- I'm amazed enough that I can now ride as many of these as I have).

Part of my own strategy has been to (1) NOT tense up my entire body during the ride -- it's much easier on your whole system if you do your best to stay relaxed, and allow your body to move a bit with the movement of the ride and (2) realize, and repeat to myself, that while I may not like a ride, it's highly unlikely that anything worse than that will happen (that is, trying it once probably won't actually kill me).

If you love Dinosaur then I really think you'll do fine on Space -- to me, it's a bit jerkier than BTMRR or EE, but nowhere near as jerky as Dino.

Good luck, and have a great trip!

We have done Test Track and love it. It is so cool at night. It is fast but has not loops or anything scary. We are trying to get up nerve to do EE this trip, maybe RRR as well. TOT is out for me. I hate those rides where the floor is dropping on you. BTMR is fun. It is a little jerky but other than that we love it. We are bummed that it will be closed on our upcoming trip. That is why we have been researching EE. We loved Dinosaur as well.

Have you ever been on a "wild mouse" type ride at an amusement park? If so, that is basically what Space Mtn is, but in the dark. You CAN DO IT!

Another ride chicken here! But I've been working my way up too and I've found that BTMRR is easy- no major tummy tickles. Splash only has that one big drop so I concentrate on counting #'s of seconds on the drop instead of the thrill of the drop. But I have yet to do Space Mountain for fear of the dark- will the drops feel worse???

space mountain doesnt have any big drops per se. granted you are up and down the whole ride, there are no gut wrenching drops. but i agree with the above posters ranking except i would put Test Track as the easiest.

Test Track
BTMR
Splash
Space
EE
RnRC

and obviously Tower of Terror is probably the scariest for any ride 'wimp.' That drop just Kills me. Hahaha

I am super wimpy too in terms of stuff that is scary (like Dinosaur), but I do like thrilling (like roller coasters). From what you've said, here's my best guess on the order you would probably be able to handle things:

Splash Mountain - I'm guessing this one would be good first because you said you were okay with Tower of Terror, and the drop in that one is much, much worse.

Test Track - imagine driving down a highway in a convertible at 65 mph and that's about the amount of thrill you should expect at the end of this ride. Nothing too scary in the beginning, aside from a few quick turns and stuff like that.

Big Thunder Mountain - definitely the tamest of the roller coasters, so a good one to start with and work your way up. More intense than the hippogriff coaster though ;)

Space Mountain - the coaster track itself isn't that bad, just the fact that it's in the dark makes it seem a little scarier.

Expedition Everest - These last two you might want to wait awhile until you're comfortable with the others because they're definitely the most intense.

Rockin' Roller Coaster - probably the most intense ride in the parks, the good news is that it's pretty quick so if you go on it and absolutely hate it at least you're not trapped for too long. But definitely one to work your way up to, if you do it at all.

But those that said scariness is objective are right. For me you've already done the two rides that I won't do because they are too scary for me! (Dinosaur and ToT, tried them both but won't do again)

I've ridden all those except test track and RnRC. I'm a big chicken and I'm working my way up to every ride at WDW. This is the order I've done them in so far: Splash, Big Thunder, Space, Expedition Everest. Once you start riding them one by one it will begin to become easy to get on seemingly scary rides. Good Luck!:cheer2: pixiedust:

I am a huge wimp when it comes to rides. I've done Splash Mountain twice and will never do it again, that big drop at the end just kills me lol. Test track and Dinosaur were pretty fun and I loved Soarin. I rode TOT and Space Mountain when I went on a high school trip about 15 years ago. I might would do Space Mountain again, but definately not TOT. Dh tried to get me on Rockin Rollercoaster one trip but I couldn't do that either.

I used to be a big chicken until I started riding the big rides at WDW. Now the only one I have not gotten on is Astro-Orbitor. I don't like heights so going to the roof of the building just to get on the ride freaks me out.

My mission is to ride it this time.

BTM is definatly and easy ride but is bumpy.
SPlash is fine other than the one drop.
Space is freaky in the dark.
Everest is fast so it will take some doing to get on it but the ride is smoother than BTM and Space Mountain.

BTMR
Test Track
Splash
Space
EE
RnRC

I agree but the first two could be switched easily and I find EE more intense than RnRC.

The backwards part of EE gets me (not badly just one of those I know I'm alive kind of things).

Also people always put RnRC last because it goes upside down. For anyone who hasn't ridden it, Upside down doesn't ever feel like you are ever hanging. You just feel lighter.

As for roughness SM is 3 or 4 times rougher than RnRC.
