ride height restrictions - funny

My dd was tall enough at 2 actually more than tall enough she was probably tall enough at 20 months. But its expected when I'm 5ft 8in and daddy is 6ft 3in or so. She didn't want to be away from dh or I so she didn't go on it though. My brother is a stick, tall and slim and she wouldn't go on with him even though she adores him. Next time she should be tall enough to ride anything she is already 41 inches or so at 3 1/2. We won't go until she is 5 or almost 5 because we have to save for our next trip yet. Not much needed but more than we could afford right now evening staying with my dad while there.

Everyone always thinks she is 5. And then she throws a tantrum and they look at me like she is too old for it. UMM she is tall but still only 3.

I think DS was about 18 months when he first went on...now at 2.5 he is tall enough (40" and 39.6 lbs) for ToT, which I would never allow! He wants to go on "the car ride" (Test Track) which he saw on one of our trip videos...we'll see about that one!

At 30 months my DD was 40 inches and she went on Test Track, Soarin, Big Thunder Mt., and Splash Mt. - all of which she loved. But I did not take her on Tower of Terror or Dinosaur , even though she was tall enough!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
The funniest was I think at Ds's 1 year appointment they measured him 3 times, then the doctor said he was taller than the 99 percentile. Ummm does that mean he is 100 percentile aka the tallest kid there is? I find that hard to believe. Doc said "here is the 99 percentile, here is Ds." LOL I am 5'9" Dh is 6'4" Doc says Ds will probably be around 6'5" or 6'6".

I does have a lot of disadvantages though. My one brother is 6'6" and when he was little people would glare at us like he was being bad or something and we would say "he is ONLY 2!" then they would be all apologetic. It is awful though because I know a lot of kids have developmental delays and I can't imagine people glaring at them like that, it is so mean. When Ds plays on stuff at the museum or somewhere that is for 2 years and under people look at me like I am breaking the rules.

I get this with my 5 year old a LOT. Not as much now, but it was horrible up until about this year. He would be in the middle of a terrible twos meltdown and people would be looking at me like "Control your kid lady"
and I wanted to smack them.
He was actually OFF the growth charts for 3 years. @@

My DD7-1/2 is also small for her age. She's 45#, 45-1/2". What's funny is she grew about 2 inches from Feb. 06-Feb. 07 but I just remeasured her the other day because I swore she grew again-and she did, she is now 45-1/2" which is 1/2" taller than one month, or so, ago. Go figure :confused3 .

Anyway she was finally tall enough to ride BTM in Jan. 06 and now it's one of her favorites. She's also been tall enough for ToT but she doesn't like it. :confused3 Doesn't like her bottom lifting off the seat! She is now tall enough (with shoes) to ride Indiana Jones (46") here at DL, which she really likes. What's interesting is that she's been tall enough for Dinosaur (40") for awhile now but Indy has a stricter height requirement even though they are basically the same ride. :confused3 Her other favorite is EE which at 44" she's been able to ride since it opened. She loves this ride!

It looks like it'll be at least a year before she can ride RnR or Primeval Whirl, but who knows, if she grows another 1-1/2" before Sept. she be all set. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

The one ride not listed on the link provided is TL Crush 'n Gusher. It too has a 48" limit. I know DD will love this ride when she's finally tall enough.

I joking tell her that she'll be in a booster seat when she takes her driver's test. :rotfl2: She still has about 15# to go before she can get out of her seat!

When she was about 3, or so, her Dr. measured and weighed her and said for height she was in the 10% and weight is was 5% (or vice versus). I didn't know what that meant until then but now I know it meant that 90% of kids her age were tall than her. The Dr. said it wasn't a problem as long as the two percentages where about the same. So no worries, she's just going to be petite. (Makes it easier to carry her when she's tired and we still use a stroller sometimes-easier on me!)

We joke that my son will be in college before he can ride anything. He is in the 4th percentile in height at 19 months he was 29 inches tall and weighed 21lbs. He is tiny. He just out grew size 3 shoes. Its funny. My niece was 2 in January and she rode barnstormers on our trip earlier this month. She towers over him. He hands and feet are bigger than her 5 year old brother. We joke that if you use the dog theory of big paws- big dog she will be a giant. Its funny how kids grow. I just had a check up for my current pregnancy and when my doctor measured me he asked how big my 1st was I told him 6lbs 12oz. he quickly responded that we were not dealing with a 6 lbs baby this pregnacy. I am a bit nervous I liked my 6 lb delivery!!!

LOL. Grandma (wise woman) had babies from 10 lbs down to 6 lbs (her last one!) and said it's the contractions that hurt -- and the delivery of the head, so they ALL HURT THE SAME. So no worries!

I have 3 kids, oldest was always in 95 % for height, is now 14 and 6 feet tall and 170 lbs. Not heavy, just very very fit and full of muscle He is going to be 6 feet 2 Inches according to the pediatricians prediction before puberty. I doubt he will only grow 2 more inches but who knows??

second boy has fluctuated between below the charts (stopped growing for 6 months at about 9 months old) to now being expected to be 6 feet one inches tall. Funny thing is at 10 he has just hit 60 pounds. I worry about him being an Ichabod Crane look a like. We joke that one boy will be 6'2" and 240 punds, and the next will be 6' 1" and 140 punds. Same genetics, but completely different.

Third child is daughter. She is 31 months now. According to pediatrician at age 2 she should be 5'8". Problem with her is she has a "j-lo" bottom half!! And is a sturdy 35 pounds

It's all crazy and unreliable in my opinion. I'm 5'6" and taller than both parents (5'4, and 5'5") and DH is smallest male in his family at 6'3". My grandmother had 6 kids, three boys and 3 girls, my mother (5'4") was supposed to be the tallest girl, and her sisters are 5'7" and 5'7", and her baby brother was supposed to be tallest boy, ended up being 5'7" and both of his brothers are 6 feet.

As far as rides go, my #2 son rode TOT at age four. He was, and is fearless. He rode Goofy at age 2.5 Put his hands up and everything, cried so hard when we tried to take him off, they let him ride immediately in same seat. I know that the engineers base height and age restrictions for safety, but it's up to the parents to decide if their individuals are ready. Both kids still say scariest rides in Disney are the old Alien Encounter, and Dinosour.

We took DS2.5 on Barnstormer last trip...IMO, WAAAYYY to wicked for a 2 year old!

I was suprised at how zippy it is! My DD went on it for the first (and last, lol) time when she was 6. She was really excited until we topped the first hill. Then, she got this terrified look on her face and grabbed onto me for dear life until the ride was over. She told me afterwards that it was the "worst thing that has ever happened to me!!" A daredevil she is NOT :rotfl: !!

My oldest said the same thing, after I took her on Barnstormer for the first time when she was age EIGHT (Yes, 8 YEARS old!) Now at age 13 she likes thrill rides just fine but for a while there, the thrillrider in me was wanting a maternity test done!

I know how you felt- I am a thrill ride junkie, and DD seems so far to hate them. I usually get her on 1 fast ride per WDW trip- in January it was ToT. She hated it! She still hasn't done BTMRR, RnR, E:E, or Space Mtn. Funny though, she loves all the simulator rides- Mission:Space is her favorite! But she doesn't want to ever go on Test Track again.:confused3 She is just not a speed freak, I guess.

WOW! If we can et DD #1 to grow, she'll be able to do a LOT this trip! 40 inches seems to be a big turning point!

The height restrictions seem a bit off to me. Some of the rides say heightwise my son should be able to ride, but to me he seems small and the idea is a bit scary. Like for space mountain and tower of terror - I'd fear he'd go flying off. I'm not sure what kind of restraints they have on them, but to me I'd think even if a child is tall enough, if he's small (as in skinny) there'd be nothing to hold him down. Am I being too cautious? What rides do you think should be avoided for someone just meeting the height requirements - like a little over 40".

I have quoted this recently on another board, I totally agree. It leaves out Space MTN , EE, Primevial Hurl ( as we call it) and Mission Space only I think as far as the parks go ( I know there are some more restrictions at the water parks, but I am not as familur with them)

To answer the above poster, I think you should try out each ride with your child in mind FIRST and then decide. I have heard of people who hate drops, and then freaking out about the one in Pirates, and i would be like, "oh they have a drop in Pirates??" until I went on it thinking of only how it would affect my kid. My son went on TOT at age four, mostly because he was so proud of being tall enough. He HATED HATED HATED the pre-show. LOVED the ride and the drops, and was that way for a year or two if I remember correctly. He would hide behind my DH or myself during the pre-show, and then once those drops started, was as happy as a clam!!

So many of the rides have individual seat belts, that they adjust to the width of the person. TOT has this now, and I liked it better when it was lap belts, because my DH would make enough space that I would get some good space between my bottom and the seat. But I can understand the need for the individual belts, for safety reasons. So I would not be concerned about slipping out.

In terms of what to avoid or kids being ready- it is more than just height that one should assess. My 3 1/2 DS rode TOT and was fine, but not dinosaur, because he is on a "scared of monsters" kick, and I thought that may send him spiraling over the edge. He also HATED the Haunted Mansion, which probably goes along with the monster thing, even though it is not a 'thrill' ride.
