A Universal Orlando spokesman says there's no plan in the works for an all-you-can-ride event at the Islands of Adventure -- despite a flurry of tips this week that the park is planning an event to spotlight Dueling Dragons and the Incredible Hulk, Universal's two high-profile roller coasters.
The gimmick is that park guests willing to pay a premium price would get a special badge to allow them to stay on the coaster for an unlimited number of rides.
One source suggests the ploy is a sort of "coaster envy" marketing event planned by the rival theme park to counteract Disney's new Mission: Space thrill ride at Epcot. That ride opens in August.
Disney's marketing campaign began to roll out a month ago and will continue to build in volume and exposure, going national with television advertising before a big media gathering in October.
The all-you-can-ride idea even has its own nickname: One tipster tells us the in-house working moniker for the event is the "puke-a-thon."
