Ride chicken needs input: Big Thunder or Star Tours?

DW is also a ride chicken, and will not do any of the coasters, or test track, although in the past, she has done test track, but no more. :confused3

She will however ride Star Tours and she can handle that, so I would give this a try, as long as you are fine with simulators. You could take the non-drowse dramamine if you are prone to motion sickness.

Suck it up and ride both. It won't kill you.

LOL! Did DH tell you to say that!

Well, it looks like Star Tours would be the better ride for me.

And as far as the "tamer" Mission Space - I won't even step into the pavilion, never mind the ride!!!!!!

Thanks guys! And may the force be with me . . .

I try to do one "thrill ride" each trip. I love rides like Soarin', POC, Kali, Dinosaur; but could never do Splash or ToT. I hated Test Track. Taking that into consideration, do you think I could handle Big Thunder or Star Tours. DS wants me to do Star Tours and DH says Big Thunder is more spiral than drops.

I don't believe either of them . . . You folks I believe!

Which should I try? (I'm already ringing my hands . . .)

I haven't read the responses so forgive me if they are repeats.

If you have ridden Dinosaur you can easily Star Tours IMO. I think Dinosaur is actually a "harder" ride.

Now Big Thunder......I personally do not get where people say this is a "thrill ride". It is moderately fast, no hills....so to me it is not even close to a thrill ride. It is one of the eaier rides in the parks to handle. My son rode it for the first time when he was 6 and the last time he went (10 years old) he was like ehh, lets do space mountain and splash mountain instead, they are better...lol

I'm bumping this up because we leave in the morning, and I'm on the fence about BTMRR -- I'm a HUGE ride chicken, though I LOVE Star Tours & Soarin' (I don't even think of Soarin' as a ride; more of a movie to me), and I love the Teacups. I tried the Barnstormer last trip and actually didn't mind it so much, but it did scare me.

What gets me is SPEED. Test Track would be my own personal hell. I really want to try BTMRR, but I have been in line for it a bunch of times, gotten to the front, and chickened out. I know a lot of you have said that it's not scary because there are more spirals and no real DROPS, but does it seem fast? That's the thing for me.

I know it sounds so dumb -- "just ride it; it's 4 minutes of your life, big deal!" But still, I actually rode RnR last year and thought I was going to die -- that was the absolute worst thing ever for this chicken.

Thanks everyone!

Joll43, the fun part of BTMRR is the speed. It does go very fast at certain points, especially if you sit in the back. However, you may do alright sitting in the first couple of rows as the front car has less momentum. I haven't done RNR (still to chicken) so I can't compare it, but I know I hate riding in the front since it feels so slow. Have fun on your trip!

Both rides are pretty tame. Star Tour, as you know, is just a flight sim. It'll rock around back and forth about as much as the ride vehicles in Dinosaur do, except you are in an inclosed space looking at a screen. Its fun and entertaining, but there is always the chance of getting motion sick, especially if you sit too close or too far from the screen.

Thunder Mountain Railroad really has no drops, a few dips of about 10-15 feet or so, max. Its mostly turns and what not. Its incredibly fun and the trains max out at a speed of about 30mph (if I am not mistaken). Honestly, I have complete faith that you can ride BOTH and have a great time.

If you are getting motion sickness in Star Tours, try to sit in the very middle of the cabin (from front to back and side to side). The moving effects are less pronounced at dead center.

For BTMRR, try to ride as close to the front as you can. The ride is more intense the further back you sit.

As for which ride to choose? I think they're both rather tame, ride them both! But if you have to choose one, well... I guess I'd go with Star Tours as being the lesser of the two evils.

I'm a huge ride chicken, although I tend to try them once (after a long time - like 38 years before I tried Splash!). I hate drops. Maelstrom and PotC at WDW are fine - PotC at DL I do skip sometimes.

Star Tours I love. note I don't get motion sick, so it does not bother me. If you find yourself being bothered, try to close your eyes. Much of the movement is enhanced by the film.

If you don't get motion sick (like if you can ride the teacups without any sort of discomfort at all) Mission Space Orange might be OK. I actually love it.

I do recommend Tower of Terror once. The drops are very smooth. Granted, IO haven't done it twice, but I did do it once! I screamed so much my friends sitting next to me started laughing (I think it was when I stopped screaming, and they realized that was just to catch my breath andf then scream more).

But, it didm't hurt or kill me, and the effects are really, really neat. Fortunately, I remember them well, so I don't have to do that again!

Now I liked Test Track, as I've been in a car on the highway before - so it wasn't anything I hadn't felt before really.

I'm hoping to try Big Thunder this trip!

If you enjoy Dinosaur, you'll like Star Tours... it's that same bumpy jerky fun. DH doesn't like either because they make him queezy. But I love them both!
