I am a pretty big chicken when it comes to rides. I don't like drops. At Disney, I'll ride Space Mt and Big Thunder Mt but not Rockin Roller Coaster or Everest or Splash Mt.
We are going to IOA this summer on a non-Disney trip and I'm wondering what rides I can do or need to stay away from...especially in the Harry Potter section. Any other chickens out there that can help me plan?

you could always go thru the line to the ride and use the chicken exit at the end.
that way you could experience the story line before the ride with others in your group.

difficult to say if you could do FJ.

check out some of the videos on youtube to see if the rides are possible for you to try.

Thanks - I never thought of looking for videos on youtube to see what the rides are like! Great idea!

Yeah...the videos will give you a feel for what you can expect then you can decide which attractions to try.

Based on what you said you have done at Disney, these are some rides to skip:

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
Jurrasic Park River Adventure
Dudley Do-Right
Hulk
Dragon Challenge

Two rides I am not sure about. The first is the Mummy roller coaster. If you can handle Space Mountain, you should be fine on Mummy. However, it has a lot more themeing and a "launch" lift hill. The car starts off going slow up the hill and picks up speed as it gets to the top. This is an indoor rollercoaster and not as tall as Space Mountain and does not have many drops. The max speed is in the mid 40s. It also has one SMALL backwards part where the car goes backwards down a SMALL hill (its like 5 feet). Like I said, if you can handle Space Mountain, you should be fine on this one.

The other is Popeye, which seems silly but it does have a huge lift hill near the end of the ride. Again, you should be fine on this ride, but I want to prepare you that you will be going up a BIG hill, however you will not drop down this hill. This ride is a big raft ride. At the top of the hill you go down some small little hills. Nothing too bad.

As far as the main HP ride, I suggest riding Spiderman first. If you can do Spiderman (which should not be a problem since the ride remains on a flat track the whole time), then I think you can handle FJ. FJ is more motion based. Think of it like Dinosaur at AK, except you watch some video screens from time to time and your feet dangle off the side of the car. Really fun ride that you should try at least once.

I was just thinking about posting the same question! We haven't been to either UO/IOA in a good 6/7 years and then the kids were to young to do the big stuff. I am the one with vertigo/motion issues , not really chicken, but I like to get others thoughts.

Great information. Thanks for the help! I really like to know (in detail) what I am getting myself into before I decide to ride! :)

you can also go to the trip section of the darkside forums to read about first hand experiences on some of the rides in question.

go to that section, use the search button.
list the ride and see what comes up in those trippies.

I am pretty much in the same boat as you for my tolerance with rides.

I'm a local so I have season passes to UNiversal so we have been a few times in the last few months. Each time we have gone I have made excuses to avoid Harry Potter (I thought it would be too scary).

I went on it last time I was there (this past Saturday) and you HAVE to go on it. It is probably the best ride ever made.

Spiderman has these ridiculous parts where it spins that I found to be very annoying and a bit intense. I found Harry Potter much better than Spiderman.
