I agree with you Laura...there is a fine line between scarying our kids and preparing them.
Personally, I haven't said anything to my kids...and they haven't asked.....and like you Bernie, we seem to be in the same boat...we always have canned goods (heck I don't even own an electric can-opener...lol) and we have all of our camping supplies in the event of an emergency.
The one thing EVERYONE here is taking serious is the gas situation. There were lines at the pumps all day yesterday, reminiscent of the shortages in the 70s

We've talked about it with my older DD. She is very pregmatic about things. My little one hasn't brought it up - and she usually does let us know if things are bothering her.

I got gas yesterday morning - pretty much status quo around here...

Well, we, as typical shortsighted Americans, forgot about gas lines in the 70s and went out and supersized our car/trucks/SUVs again. I see compact cars back in our future. We never learn, do we?

Hope all goes well at your house today Steph both health and job-wise.

While I haven't made any real "emergency plans" I am thinking about it more. Would you believe people are selling duct tape on eBay!!!

Diane, I think you're right in that we're more aware on the East coast. We're smack-dab between Boston and New York and Washington isn't far either.

My friend is flying up from Florida today and while I wasn't nervous when we were in NY last weekend I'm uneasy for her. I'm also looking forward to her reaction to the weather since she said yesterday was cool for her at 65 degrees and right now it's 7 degrees here!

I'd appreciate some good wishes for my cousin who's now at Ft. Drum with ner National Guard unit that was activated yesterday. She served in the Air Force in the mid-90's and spent time in the MIddle East, Korea and even Cuba but somehow this feels different.

I was just taking a peek at Ariel Sands. Nice digs. I did stay in a cottage colony on Bermuda once....very, very quiet and very beautiful. I hated not having a car though. Drove us absolutely nuts. But Bermuda was a beautiful place....

Our gas was about $1.75 most places, but they are saying it will go close to $2.00.
