Enjoy the Honors Band Concert! I can't wait until DS has his very first band concert in a few months. It will be interesting, to say the least. One of their songs is the Mickey Mouse March!

I absolutely love those events! My niece was in a Shakespeare competition at a local college (Hofstra University) last week...she's a senior in High School wanting to be a communications major, and is very much into Drama... Her ensemble did an act from Midsummer Night's Dream and was excellent....it makes you so proud and reminds us how important the Arts are as a part of the school curriculum.

nothing going on here...the spring choral concert was today at the elementary school. The theme this year was "That's 70s Song" and the kids...obviously...all sang songs from the 70s.
AJ's first grade sang "Rubber Ducky" and "Sing", Pat's 5th grade sang "Fernando" and "I will Survive" Then for the grande finale, the entire song sang "I write the Songs"...a total of 600 kids, all singing their little hearts out...
I have to admit....when the first graders started singing, I got weepy......just the simple joy of kids singing today did it for me....

nobody know the difference between pity pants and smarty pants...right??? Course if I threw in some inside out Dopey Undies everyone would have their thong in a bunch!!!!

Stephanie, Stephanie, Stephanie... I didn't HAVE to look? Ahem, you are assuming that I have willpower, which I don't. A prime example - my DIS WISH logo has not changed in the month that I have had it! **sigh**

DS is in d.s. with us tonight. They have one week left in the grading period, and his teacher sent a little update of his current grades home today. Every single grade has dropped since the last report card. He has been in quite a funk these past few weeks and I don't know what is wrong. His behavior has not been good at all in school lately and he has become very careless with his work. He is smart enough to be in the gifted program, but he could honestly care less about his grades. This is really nothing new that he gets too silly at school and talks too much, but it scares me when he says he doesn't care about school. We had a long talk with his teacher in November, and he seemed to really work hard for a few months. Now he is back to goofing off. Granted, a C or two and a few B's aren't horrible grades, but he is capable of getting mostly A's. I am hoping he grows out of this soon.

Wish I could offer advice....but it sounds like our son's are cut from the same cloth..... What's worse is he is deeply into pre-adolescence...with the appropriate attitude (that drives me more than nuts!)

Gail, how old are your children? I thought you said once that your daughter is 8. Leah will be 8 in June and Logan will be 10 next month.

Oh goodness....I believe we've just discovered a new support group...Patrick is EXACTLY the same way.....unfortunately, he is JUST like me and never has to study to get good grades....but this year he has starting to develop a "dislike" for school....next year he moves to the middle school, and I hope he can keep up with the adjustments he'll need to make.....otherwise, it's going to be a tough year....


edited to add: Patrick turned 11 in December......

Matt's 11 and since we still don't have middle schools in our city he'll stay in elementary one more year. Junior high is grades 7 & 8 and they they're in high school. Elizabeth is 8 and in 3rd grade.

Thanks, guys. It feels so good to vent and then discover that you are not alone. I know that getting this addition completed has me stressed out some times, so I worry that I am passing that stress on to the kids. Calgon, take me away!!!!

Hi Elaine! So nice to hear from you. You sound like you've had some busy days at work lately.

I sent an e-mail this afternoon to the mom that I know who owns the charm kiosk. I think a charm party sounds like a lot of fun, and a great way for me to build up my bracelet. I probably won't be able to have anything until May or June, but I will most definately keep you in mind! You could really get everyone hyped up about it at the party - and Luis could come and help keep Lenny company. Maybe if they are too busy talking with each other, they won't notice how much we are spending.
