I was just looking at the AP Benefits and realized that AP holders get $20.00 off the ride along and $35.00 off any driving experience. I couldn't resist. I just booked the Rookie Experience as a surprise for my 27 y/o son when we go in Jan (eleven more days :earseek: :jumping4: ). She said she would send me the paperwork and he can just fill it out the morning he drives. The only problem is that we have definite plans every day except the morning before we leave, so I had to book it for 8:00am Jan 14th. My son is not an early riser and I can't wait to use this to get him out of bed that morning. I guess we'll take a cab from the AKL in order to get there at 7:30am? or does Disney transportation run that early? How in the world am I going to keep this as a surprise all week? I don't want him to have a clue until Friday morning.

I gave the trip to WDW as a Chrismas gift and in the top of his and my GD's Christmas bag had painted a small wooden airplane and wrote on it 'you're going to WDW Jan 9th-Jan15th'. I think I may see if I can find a small wooden car, paint it like a race car and use it to surprise my son when I wake him up that morning. What do you think? With the $35.00 AP discount and tax it was only $366.36 (instead of $403.64). He's such a huge NASCAR fan, but it's only 8 laps. Do you think it's worth it and that he willl enjoy it?

I think he'll be on cloud nine! I am so glad I read your post...we are buying APs this trip and didn't even know this is a benefit to having the AP...am so planning on getting this for my DH for his birthday now!

I just have my AP voucher at this time and will have to have it validated when we get there, so didn't have a list of the AP benefits. I was reading about the benefits on allearsnet.com. I had been debating doing it and just decided when I saw it that it was a sign :D , so immediately called before I could change my mind. The only thing is, the lady that answered the phone at first said AP holders got $10.00 off. It just so happened I still had the allearsnet.com page in front of me and when I read it to her she put me on hold then came back a few moments later and said they must have changed it to the $20.00 and $35.00 off recently, because it used to be $10.00 off. Anyway she charged my credit card for $366.36 which is $37.28 off. I just hope he enjoys it and can't wait to see his face that morning when I wake him up for it.

He will jump right out of bed for that I bet!
I booked the Rookie for my DH. He will be doing it on the afternoon of Sunday the 9th.
When you check in at WL, assuming your DS is not within earshot, you can ask them about the best way to get to the speedway. Have a great trip PS... I am a AAA member and got a 20% discount on the Rookie.

He'll love it. Even DH got excited, and he doesn't get excited about hardly anything (sometimes that's good, though). Just a note-even if Disney transportation did run that early, it wouldn't go there. Your best bet, if you don't have a rental car (as we did) is to rent a car. Or you might want to call RPDE back-I think I remember something about getting complimentary transportation from a central area.

I've done the RPDE twice, but not at Disney. Once at Charlotte(Lowes Motor Speedway) and once at Joliet(Chicago). My DW got them for me as Christmas gifts each time.

I must have been a pretty good boy this year too. I got another.

It is one of the most exhilarating, fun, neat, cool... I don't have enough words for it. Anybody that gets a chance to do this will have a blast!

I've done an eight lap and 18 lap program so far. This year I get 30!

Merry Christmas to me. What a wife I have.

Thanks guys! I just hope he enjoys it. I'd originally planned to park hop that day, or if it's warm enough maybe do a water park. With the RPDE I don't know what we'll have time for now. We have PS for Bomas at 5:30pm and for La Nouba at 9:00pm, so we'll probably be pretty busy. Does anyone know exactly how long the Rookie Experience lasts? I forgot to ask when I called. :guilty: By the way the lady at RPDE said they have a complimentary van that will pick us up at the TTC. I guess we'll just take a taxi to the TTC?

The Rookie Experience is supposed to last 3 hours. If it's a small group (15 or fewer, say), it may last less time. I think DH's started at 8:00, and we were finished and in Epcot by 11:00. Also, everyone in his group got 10 laps, 2 extra for practice, warm-up.

I called today and was asking about the Rookie Experience. The lady said if I use my AAA card it would be $322.91 w/tax! I'd like this to be a surprise for Dh but if I go for the Rookie Experience I'll have to use some of his money and he'll want to know what I did with it. Has anyone done the Ride Along and what did you think?
