Rice Saves the Day/Flash

Here's a tip for you in case you find yourself swimming with your camera gear as I did!

This past weekend while shooting some portraits, the SB600 and I decided to take a dip in the Congaree River--we both needed to cool off from the 100 degree temperature!

I did manage to save the D700 from the river, but the light stand and the SB600 went down with me. After pulling myself off the bottom I rushed to pull the SB600 out. It was still on! I tried firing it and nothing. So I popped out the batteries and kept on with the shoot.

Later that evening I put the SB600 in a Tupperware container with 4 lbs of rice. After 2 days it has risen from the dead!

I love my Rice! It comes it so handy - lots of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus, it works great as a fruit ripener (pop a green mango or banana in a tub of rice and see) and as a dessicator for moments like what you experienced.

Nice save! I've heard rice works really well. Now to go out and buy a bunch to keep on hand for emergencies!

By the way, I know exactly where the shot was taken! We live in Chapin on the lake!
