My SIL is from the Cayman Islands (wouldn't you love to be from there) and her Mom serves different foods than we had at the holidays. For instance her Mom always brings Macaroni and Cheese, but for Thanksgiving she brought Rice and Beans. They were flavored with coconut milk and OMG they were SO Goood!!!

I grew up in the Midwest and my parents were of German descent so we had boring things like ham for Christmas.

Do you serve anything different or ethnic for the holidays.

My son is studying French this year and he want me to make one of those chocolate rolls for Christmas, I think I'll try.

The only thing I make for the holidays is a flan. My DH's mom only did it around the holidays and that seems to be the only time I do it as well.

MIL makes lefse, a Norwegian potato flatbread. And then for Christmas dinner she orders Godfather's pizza. Does that count?

We always make a Tofurky. :)

Nothing unusual. For New Years we have black eyed peas and rice but most people in Texas do that, it's not unusual.

I also love tamales for the holidays but good tamales are hard to find in Michigan :(

My mom makes the typical Cuban meal on Christmas Eve (rice, beans, roast pork, yuca, cuban bread & salad, lots of garlic sauce!). My DH loves this meal! This year she is making a pumpkin flan, it's to die for!

Helenabear, I'm impressed. I don't know how to make a flan, I really have to learn though. Do you make yours in the water bath?
