I just finished eating my first piece of rhubarb of the season...Man I love that stuff. One piece makes me crave more.

So, how do you like your rhubarb? That is if you like it at all.

I like to eat mine raw with a dab of salt, but I also like it in most anything baked!

Only in pie for me, and no more than twice in the season..................but I like it those two times! Just find that I don't like it much by the third time, so I cut it at two.

Rhubarb is DH's favorite kind of pie. Don't even thinking of adding Strawberries to it! I've grown to enjoy it as well, but I always need vanilla bean ice cream to go along with it!

To be honest I had never heard of Rhubarb before I met DH. And until this thread, I didn't realize you could eat them raw ... or without sugar!

My mom used to make the best rhubarb pie. It was just perfect...not too sweet and not too tart.

I've had strawberry-rhubarb pie but that is way too sweet for me.

I hate rhubarb but grow the biggest crop around. We bring it to the nursing home where my mil is and they use it all summer and also into the winter (they freeze it) Remember to pull the stalk up and out and do not cut it .....it grows back faster this way. We had six crops of rhubarb last year. My mil said that they had cobbler a few weeks ago with the last of it. So now we are bringing it to the home again in a few days....

Could somebody send me some rhubarb pie? I haven't had any in soooo many years.

You started it!

When I was a kid I would peel the stalk, put salt on it and eat it plain.

Can't do that anymore, ugh!!

Like it stewed with sugar and then put on toast or as an ice cream topping.
Also, pie with or without strawberries. And make bread with it too, and muffins. I made a couple loaves last week using whole wheat flour and Splenda, turned out great.

Are you REALLY supposed to pull the whole stalk out, and NOT cut it?
I have ALWAYS cut it, just above the ground. :confused3

Hmmm...just eating it plain, huh? I've never tried that. Always had it *in* something. My coworker made a great rhubarb coffee cake a few weeks ago. I just found some rhubarb at the grocery store yesterday, so I've just gotten his coffee cake recipe and I will be making that soon. It is very good--the tart rhubarb with the sort of sweet cake.

uuuuuuummmmm...rhubarb. I love pie, with or without strawberries. Warm, preferably.

I didn't know you shouldn't cut it either...if fact I cut the piece I had last night.

Eating it plain with salt is definately tart, but that's just the way I like it! :thumbsup2

I think I've had it stewed before, but could someone tell me how to do it? I have some vanilla ice cream and it might just hit the spot!

Me too! They don't grow it in this climate, so no one around here's had it. I remember one summer a teacher at our school brought a rhubarb pie back from up north visiting her family. Then she served it at the teacher's luncheon at school opening. It was so funny to watch a few of us run frantically over to get some -"Rhubarb!" and the looks on everyone's face who was trying it for the first time. I guess it's an aquired taste.

If no one has already asked, I'd love the recipe! We have a ton of rhubarb growing in our yard, and I'm always looking for more ways to use it! Thanks.
