RFID Park Entry-No Turnstiles

It will be tempting. And I'm pretty sure that WDW has thought of this, and has a method in place to prevent it. A real quick rundown on how it could work. Current software/hardware is in place to detect people on a video feed, and track them all as they move through the feed. So at WDW they simply need to track guests as they enter the gate area. If the person stops at a pedestal and scans a valid ticket, the system lets them enter. If the person doesn't stop, the system alerts a CM in the gate area. Early tests reported CMs carrying iPads just past the gates. It's easy enough for the system to send a picture of the person in question to the CM with the iPad, who can then approach them to ask if they can see their ticket. And then either scan it, or have security escort them out. And even if the system happens to miss a person or two, the savings in time and man power by shifting to the new gates should more than offset.

1) Tempting - high probability.
2) Successful - minuscule probability.
3) CM's and Guards are looking for such attempts.

NOTE: Security has been warned to listen for alerts from CM's at
the entry "turnstiles" for jumpers. If you are caught, justice is
swift and excruciating. And, the Supreme Court "cruel and unusual
punishment" rulings won't help. You are escorted, arm-in-arm, to
iasw and kept on the ride for 47-minutes, at which time you will
voluntarily RUN from the parks in terror. To never attempt to jump
the turnstile in the future.

Thank goodness you have this inside information! I will be certain to wait long enough to be more than assured my card has been accepted! I may even wait until a CM comes up to ask me to move forward...

That might be punishment for some, but not for all! My stepmom told me that she nearly lost her mind because of my abiding love for listening to my Small World album. Over and over and over.

47 minutes? I'd just be getting started! :goodvibes

Since the new RFID Entry does not use turnstiles, won't it be "tempting" for unscrupulous people to try to "sneak" past the CMs during busy times?:)

Just got back today and love this new system! Of course, the lines were short since most people didnt know they were there. :goodvibes I am sure it will change as time goes on, but this week there was 1 cm for every 2 sensors and then another 3 or 4 standing around just behind them.

so you basically just walk on through?
is it mainly for resort guests?

Yes. You tap your KTTW on the Mickey head and put your finger on the scan. If it turns green, you walk in. If it turns blue, you try again.

The part I find interesting is that there doesn't appear to e signage with instructions or anything..

We know green means go and blue means error.. but who is telling all the guests this? There's not enough CMs at the gates from what I've seen to assert that sort of mandate to all of them.

When we went through, the had a CM at each podium directing us. I assume this will be the same once it goes live? :confused3

I thought it was interesting. It seems like it would be quicker, but would it really be that much quicker?

I believe I saw a similar scanner getting on Peter Pan. Is that for fastpass+?

We saw them today at AK.

There was three CM's over there and NO ONE using them.

It is similar to how Sea World is.... you scan and finger scan and walk on through. I'm guessing there will be a CM at each entrance area at least for a while.

There are plenty of CMs nearby who you would pretty much have to run over to get past if the mickey did not turn green. There is one ticketing CM per mickey head and then behind them are 2 guest relations CMs per row. They are there with handheld devices to assist if the guest's ticket will not let them in. This also saves the guest with issues from having to stand in a separate guest relations line if they have ticketing problems.

Long term, it should be. No more having to open a gate for wheelchairs and strollers, that alone should help significantly to speed up the lines.

Yup. Those are for FP+. Same RFID sensor tech. That is why the terms of FP+ say that to use FP+ you need to change to the new media, and that you will no longer be able to use normal FP once you do so.

From what I understand Disney is also beginning to distribute RFID-enabled park tickets for use in these turnstiles. Can anyone confirm this?
