Revival of the angry thread!

People are basically....sheep! .

Show them the light and they'll follow it any where.

NYS has one of the, if not the most dysfunctional state legislatures in the country. Why? Part of the reason is that the same people get voted back in again and again! The reelection rate is in the very high 90% range! There were some very good challengers this year in Western NY and NONE of them won elections against terrible incumbants. :confused3

What do you want, Al? This is a state that the only way they could get rid of Nelson Rockefeller as governor was to push him off on the country as vice president.

I'm just curious,,do you have any examples ?
(and remember, I was talk'n TV media coverage)
:confused3

Yes, I watched TV...lol :P Sorry, I'm not going to go out and find a bunch of Youtube links to prove it...heh. I don't view TV coverage as the main news though, it's become too much like watching live tabloid coverage.

Don't believe all the hype about the media. That's Fox News trying to get ratings. Of course they want you to think they're the only Fair and Balanced show, that way you'll only watch THEM. It's a marketing strategy. MSNBC does the same thing with Democrats.

I saw lots of discussion on mainly CNN that was not pro-Obama. Now, just because they didn't go the "let's find every little conspiracy known to man and treat it as legitimate news" Fox News route, doesn't mean that it was all positive.

The only person that seriously got bashed in all this was Palin, and I don't blame her for being upset about it. She was pretty much set up as the fall guy (gal) from the second she was picked. Although, she was nowhere near ready to be VP (and possibly President), imo.

Chris....a lot of people are too stupid to think for themselves. Why do you think politicians send their reps into the poorest neighborhoods with $$$ to buy votes? As far as I know this practice is not illegal, but it certainly is immoral.

When a voter is bought by a politician that voter is displaying either ignorance of what a citizen in a democracy must understand or that voter is just morally corrupt.

I've talked to a lot of people who cast their votes for President based upon what they were told by their religious leaders, by their union leaders, by race or party affiliation, by any means other than their own educated decision.

People are basically....sheep! They will follow anyone who is willing to lead them.

Now, I've gotta run and make that phone call to buy a "Sham-Wow", cause they are only giving me 20 minutes and...."they can't do this all day".

Agreed, it's not that I don't think people follow, of course they do. Popular crowd, what people at work say, how you were raised, etc... Was more just a general view of modern TV news that is basically in your face with very little facts. We'll wow you with our MTV editing and before you know it, you won't even remember what you were watching...lol.

Ever notice when he pours the coke or what ever it is that he pours on the carpet that there is a puddle around the sides of the carpet? Ever notice when they cut to him laying the Sham-Wow on top and punching it that there is only a drop or two of liquid around the edge of the carpet? :rolleyes1 Try saying that in a Andy Rooney voice. Does a "all day" start everytime that comercial is on?:confused3

Why can't I stop thinking of marshmallows? A lot of fluff and air, and no real substance.

I agree, it is like watching a tabloid program. Watching the news now is like watching TMZ, or Entertainment tonight. There isn't a whole lot of difference.
Only for a good many people..in fact, I'd venture to say a majority of people, this is their ONLY avenue of information. Their opinions are based on what they're being fed by the media and what the media thinks is important. They think because it was on cable..it's gospel. While this may not be the case for yourself...unfortunately, I believe it so for a significant amount of people.

It's not much different for the print media anymore either - it's all slanted or twisted one way or the other.

Now I'm angry!

Telemarketers are now calling my office!
And it's never a person on the otherside, it's a recording so I can't "play" with them!

We've been getting those calls again. I registered our number a couple of times on the Do Not Call list..yet it seems recently we've started to get these type of calls again.
I keep getting one from "your credit card company". Right away I think someone has stolen the number and used the card. Turns out it's promotional about lowering your interest rate..IF you have transfer a balance from another card. Then..it turns out, we don't even have a card with this company! They are automated..and very annoying.
Two days ago, I got a call from someone selling MEAT...and another from a carpet cleaner. While I asked to be removed from their lists, I'm wondering why we're receiving these type of calls again.:headache:

lol Al, you know this is nothing new, which is why I don't get why people think all of a sudden NOW the media is corrupt.

Media is run by people, and people are slanted and twisted. Maybe we should invent a robot to do the news for us.

I know I'm twisted! :lmao:

There's alway bias - look at papers in the 18th & 19th century - nothing's changed other than the speed of delivering the news. It's all entertainment.

If you want to read some realy slanted and biased reporting, read some of the news articles from the civil war and then compare them to first hand accounts and official reports of the battle (both sides) and you will find they generally dont match up.

Gee, I thought the point of reporting was to give the facts and let the reader make a decision based on their knowledge and life experiences...oh wait, I live in fantasy land, don't I!:lmao:

BTW- Scott, I read some of those papers in college. They are a fascinating read!
