Click here for the story. Looks like there will be no in-water interaction, which is a bummer because that will seriously gut the show. They did say they will start that up again after a procedure review. Apparently dining is coming back next week.

I think DH and I might head out there on Sun. to see the new show. I'll try to get him to tape it and put it on YouTube to show the difference.

Thank you for posting this. At this time those of us heading for Seaworld soon probably all feel some uncertainty.
My family are booked to do the VIP tour in five weeks and I cannot say I'm looking forward to it now :sad1:
There is no way I could e mail or call and ask - it just seems so wrong to worry about a tour when someone has died.

I think you'll still have great fun on your VIP tour. It's not like you're around the whales all day.

Just remember to be respectful of the tour guide, and don't say anything about the events that have happened. We all know what happened.

I'm sure there will be news crews taking "undercover" tours and crap to try to find stuff out from the guides. But all places of business have very strict rules about employees speaking of the events.

I'm thinking of heading there tomorrow... wasn't really planning to. But I'd like to see Shamu Rocks before it goes away till the summer time. I haven't watched it any other weekend yet.

About Shamu Rocks, it will be going on Every Saturday up until spring break starting at the end of March. And it will be performed every day until spring break is over in Mid April. If you have never seen it, I would reccomend going during spring break when everything has settled down. Maybe they will be back in the water by this time.

We just got back from Orlando, we were at Seaworld on Feb 19 and Feb 23.

I'm not sure if it's standard practice, although I suspect it probably is; We went to the Shamu show on the 19, and no trainers were in the water during the show. I can't tell you why, but from what has been reported, it sounds like they been having trouble with the killer whales and posibly keeping the trainers out of water for that reason. Not sure if the trainers were in the water on the last day we were there, we didn't go to the show that day. But from the cheers, oohs and aahs coming from the stadium, it seemed like they may have been in the water that day, the show we attended didn't have the big crowd reactions we heard on the 23.

Not sure if there's a connection to all this and the tragic accident, but one has to ask the question if it's safe to be in the water with the whales right now.

Having problems with the whales is a common happening because SW doesn't force them to perform. They get moody or have tiffs going on in the pod or just decide they're done sometimes. DH loves SW and has seen Believe and Shamu Rocks countless times and he has seen them act up frequently. A trainer always explains what it happening, which is often fascinating when it's some tiff in the social group or whatever. It annoyed us to hear the media reporting that the trainers were acting disgusted with the whales prior to the accident because disgust is something DH has never seen. They know how animals are and they have infinite patience with the whales. Even after this accident, I doubt that any of them fears going in the water with the whales because they know this was just a tragic freak accident...a ponytail in the wrong place with horribly tragic consequences, but not a willful attack by the whale.

I just thought Saturday was extended for Bands, Brew, BBQ weekends. I didn't realize it was something they'd keep up. I've seen the show a dozen times now. So it's not going to ruin my experience to see it now. And I hate Spring Break crowds. I doubt you'll find me in the park much during that week. Of course hours at work might pick up too, which will limit my free time.

Next week starts Viva La Musica weekends which runs right into spring break. Thats why its every saturday.

oh.. spanish music really isn't my thing... probably why I haven't paid attention.

I'm really excited about seeing Jack Hannah in April.

When is Jack Hanna coming in April? I can't find any dates online - we are going to be in the area April 19-24 and were hoping to spend one of the days in Seaworld.

Thanks!!
