REVISED 2/3-Both ears down! So Sad!-Mickey's Ears are coming down! (Screamin')

I must say I'm kind of surprised by this thread. I know that whenever there is a change in the park this board will have a "How Dare They!" contingent and a "Good Riddance" contingent. But for the Mickey head I thought the latter would be far greater.

Getting an actual picture of Mickey Mouse and replacing a what looks like a futuristic silhouette stuck on an "old-fashioned" roller coaster sounds like a great deal to me. Just goes to show what I know.

To each his own. I posted the pictures to let those who are interested know that the ears are coming down. Isn't that what these boards are for? Sharing information?

Sorry to report that we were there 2 days ago (Wed. the 21st) and the ears on Screamin' are already coming down.

See......

It's true, it's really happening! :sad2:

...

FYI the ride was still running. :)

GREAT PICS!

Thanks for the update! :thumbsup2

Absolutely, and thank you for sharing the pictures. Sorry if I gave any other impression, but my only point was that I would have expected this thread to be more like "Yay, the Mickey is coming down!" instead of people being sad.

It goes to show that you can't trust what you read on these boards to be a good measure of the general opinion of all the DIS members. Even though there is lots of love showered on DLR on this site, the threads still generally skew more towards complaints. Thus I had the impression that more people hated the Mickey head than loved it, but probably only because not a lot of people write about how much they love it until it's being taken away.

Of course, I could be wrong about that, too. Maybe I should shut up while I'm not too far behind...

No worries-I'm probably in the minority but I love DCA just as it is. :goodvibes I totally understand why they are changing it though since one of the reasons I love DCA is that it's never as crowded as DL! :crowded:

However, I am looking forward to the Test Track type ride being added. We love TT at WDW! :grouphug: I will miss Maliboomer and hope they rethink replacing it. DD9 isn't tall enough to ride yet and I don't think she will be before they remove it. :sad1:

One bummer is that without the ears the PP photogs no longer can take the pictures of you where it looks like you're wearing the ears. I noticed even back in Sept. that they weren't taking them anymore.

oh no, one of our best pictures taken at DL and CA is of the Mickey Coaster reflecting on the water. I love that pic. I even printed it in an 8 X 10 and proudly display it in the living room. :(
Im sad to see it go...

The coaster (Screamin')will still be there, just earless. Of couse soon you'll be able to take a pix of the new Mickey face (on old Sunwheel) reflecting in the water-that is if the water is back by then. :rotfl2:

We were there today and it looks the same as the pictures taken by the OP. Not much to report but thought some people might be interested in the progress (or non-progress as seems to be the case) of the ears coming down.

While I am sad that the Mickey head is coming down.....I am quite excited to see what changes they bring to California Adventure. Disney has such a great team full of imagination...I know it will fantabulous when it is done. The new toy story ride is awesome!

Wonder why they aren't making much progress? I hope the sun wheel opens back up on time! :)

We were there for a quick trip (4 hours) on Tues, Feb. 3rd. Both ears are now officially gone. Here's a picture

All that's left are the attachments and the support structure.

Oh, and an update from a friendly CM-the next to go are the Orange Stinger (remodeling into Silly Symphony) and the Dinosaur (Sunglass store). If you're going soon, take pictures to show your grandkids how DCA "used to be" :)

That's just sad. Our pictures just won't be the same this trip. The lagoon, the Mickey head and the construction on main street. Oh well...we're still in Disneyland and that just means we HAVE to go back.

As a person who has been a TOTAL FAN of DCA, this new change has me saddened. . .I am sure it will end up fine as I have always embraced the new changes but I am deeply saddened at the moment since my wonderful paradise pier photos will never happen again. . .so I will now have "one of a kind" Mickey ear photos. . .lol.

Oh well, change is needed, hopefully change is good.

The best unhidden hidden Mickey head is gone :sad1: :sad1: Now it's just a roller coaster.:sad2:

Now the Orange Stinger, that is a good change!!

Oh, that's so sad to see. :sad2: I'm glad I took some pics of DS a few weeks ago "wearing" the mickey ears. I'll also be sad to see the orange go. I kind of liked the giant orange and I like that when you see it up close you can see the bumpy orange peel texture. And I didn't know that the dinosaur was going too! I always liked him. I'm sad to see the different things coming down but I do agree that DCA needed some changes so I'm hoping for the best.
