Reviews/Thoughts on the Character Dining?

I agree with everyone's comments about Goofy's. This was the our number one spot, but now the mystery of wondering which characters you'll see is gone.

But that being said - the PB&J pizza though? My DS11 can't get enough of it!! He LOVES it!! We've got 2 GK ressies for our next trip just for the PB&J pizza.

Also, we had great interactions with the "new" characters. Not Alice and Mad Hatter level, but still pretty good. Chip saw the pizza and pancakes on my kids plate and he waves his arms "no no no!" and takes him by the hand to the buffet. Chip then started pointing out fruits for my son to put on his plate - watermelon, an orange, a banana - it was hilarious!! My kid piled up some fruit on his plate and Chip escorted him back to our table.

Minnies's had the best characters but I wasn't impressed with the food. It is odd to be a buffet but you don't serve yourself. And they ran out of things and took a bit of time to refill them. Odd too since with servers right there dishing it out you'd expect them to be on top of when to replenish. Though something to keep in mind, they have so many characters chances are good that all of them will not make it to your area. A lot did but a few never came to our half of the restaurant. We had great interactions with the ones that did come around

I'm confused, you're talking about Minnie's breakfast at Plaza Inn, right? When we had breakfast there in 2013 it was a buffet and we served ourselves everything. We also sat on the patio and still had every single character come out and greet us. And this was with a 10:30am reservation. We're planning on booking this breakfast again when our window opens up in a few weeks. Strange how we all have different experiences with the same thing lol!

It was not like that when we went in June. There are servers at each location and you tell them what you want and they put it on a plate and give it to you. You can still eat as much add you want but it would take multiple trips. The fruit and pastries are still serve yourself

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It's really useful can I can give everyone more info to help us chose.

Which characters is it at goofy's now then? X

We went to Goofy's Kitchen a couple of weeks ago. I love their buffet. There was a M&G with Goofy prior to going into the restaurant. Once seated, we had Minnie, Chip and Dale and Pluto come to our table. (Goofy did dance through the restaurant but didn't come to our table.) It was just DH and I but they still came and interacted with us. So much fun!!

Ok maybe I am the one that is remembering it incorrectly, because now that sounds strangely familiar....haha!

Oooh so goofy's has gone to fab 5 plus chip and dale now then? So Minnie might be there x

Standard is
Minnie
Pluto
Chip
Dale
Goofy in a photo op in front before you are seated

Barring an unexpected absence those are always there. No Mickey, no Donald so not quite Fab 5

Random but…can you book a Plaza Inn breakfast for before the park opens? I've done this in WDW and it's great to walk down a quiet main street and take photos.

Yes you can this is our favorite thing to do. The parks all but empty get some good main street photos and then get breakfast. First seating is always best for chr interaction that I have seen.

We love Minnie's Breakfast. We have seen up to 12 characters there. We are WDW vets and we feel it is far superior to any of the WDW character meals because of the number of and variety of the characters you can run into. We love that there is often a surprise as to which characters you might run across (We have seen Tweedle Dum, Brer Bear, a Penguin from Mary Poppins, Gepetto, and a few others that we thought were a surprise or unusual). We were there last week and we saw Minnie, Captain Hook (who was hilarious that day), Fairy Godmother, Rafiki, Chip, Dale, Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, and Max. We have seen all of those there before, so no big surprise this trip, but still fantastic. AngieTN, I wonder if you experience had to do with your timing or just a bad day there. Last year, we did have the experience that a few things were slow to be refilled but we had never had that happen before, and last week the food was more than plentiful and quickly refilled if anything looked low. Our reservation was at 10:30 last week. We like to get there when the park opens at 8:00 and take advantage of that first couple of hours of really low lines, and then have brunch. Plus by that time, it isn't as crowded so you get lots of good character time.

As far as Ariel's, we were there shortly after the lunch menu change last July (which I think is still the current menu), and to us the food was so bad that both DD and I wound up not eating it and getting corn dogs for lunch immediately AFTER leaving our Ariel's lunch. We enjoyed it before the menu change, but we found the menu to be poor after the change and the food to be poor as well. Because of the lunch menu, we did breakfast last week. We really enjoyed the breakfast. The food was great! We saw Ariel, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Tiana and Belle last week. Our Reservation was at 9:30--- I think that may be the latest breakfast reservation they do.

We are extremely disappointed with the changes at Goofy's Kitchen. We never thought it was as good as Minnie's, but we really enjoyed it and we did usually see 5 or 6 characters there other than Goofy and we loved that it was not standardized and that there were surprises as to what characters would be there. We hate that it is now the standard Goofy, Pluto, Chip, Dale and Minnie. If they were going to standardize it, they could have at least thrown Mickey in too. Plus, every time we have ever eaten at Minnie's Breakfast we have seen Chip, Dale and Minnie, so it is a duplication of characters. Before the standardization, we had run into the Mad Hatter there almost every trip, and he was always a highlight of that meal because he was hilarious. Now, it is a standardized 5 just like any WDW meal. Plus, we feel like we are getting less for the same high price since they have taken away characters and standardized who was there. We typically do Goofy's on every DL trip, particularly as we have always stayed at the Disneyland hotel, but this year we skipped it. For DD, 9, to say she would rather skip it is a big deal because she has been a huge character fanatic since she was 2.
