Reviews of Disney Resort Rooms

We have stayed at almost every deluxe resort and multiple multiple times as well as many dvc properties and while some stays have been better then others we have never had a bad or dirty or smelly room at a disney resort. When we have stayed at a resort right before a rehab i have had the thought that an upgrade may be nice but I have never felt the room was bad. Now....it's disney and not the ritz or four seasons.

It really does not sound as though the on site resorts are what you want. Why not just return to the resorts where you're confident you'll be happy?

AliceAnn, that is what we are going to do. We really wanted to try and stay at Disney, but had a hard time justifying $500/night for the rooms you get. Location is great, but I guess different strokes for different folks.

No Kaytieeldr..... there are numerous reviews and posts on this board and other websites about bed bugs. Here was just recent proof with pictures. And how can you just dismiss that this "one" room with pictures had bugs in the bed for 500/night?

Bed bugs do not discriminate against outstanding resorts and/hotels. They can get into any room. You have to do your due diligence and check as soon as you enter your room, no matter if you stay at a $30 a night room or a $3000 a night room. You probably won't find any but if you do, don't unpack your things, go directly to the front desk and report the problem. You can ask for a room change. I'd bet money on it that if you are distressed enough to stay at the resort, WDW will upgrade you to the next resort tier (moderate to deluxe). I can't guarantee this, but I'd bet money on it.

As another pp has stated, WDW is not kept up to the standards of the 1970's. But, in my opinion, WDW has among the best resorts.

It appears to me that the op should consider WDW Club Level Rooms. WDW reserves their best of the best employees to work these sections of their resorts. Remember that if you run into any problems with your Club Level room, just go right to your Club Level Concierge and explain the problem. It will get taken care of.

There are 30,405 rooms onsite (source http://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/hotels/number-rooms). That's over eleven million room-nights per year. Even if find ten thousand negative reviews - or pull out the negative parts of reviews - that's still less than .0001% of all the nights in a single year.

And you still seem to be ignoring that the TripAdvisor reviews are primarily, almost overwhelmingly, positive - very good or better averages.

Thanks JPerrot1...... that one review from the Poly with the bug in the bed and the dirty lights was on the Club Level. Have you ever stayed off site?

We've been DVC members since 2005 and stayed at many of the DVC resorts many times. We have never had a problem with any room other than something very minor that was fixed right away! And, I've stayed at 5 star hotels that weren't nearly as nice, as clean or with as great of service as you receive at Disney hotels.

There are people in this world that will complain about anything and everything no matter what kind of service they receive.

Can I ask what resorts that you have stayed at or felt like were nicer/cleaner at Disney over the years?

Yuck, this thread has rapidly deteriorated beyond what I'm interested in being part of. OP, you seem to have made up your mind to stay off site, so I'm guessing this thread will die a natural death soon... no reason for anyone to dissuade you from your opinions on the Disney resorts that so many of us love so much.

Enjoy your trip.

One word comes to mind and it's "Troll".
But for the sake of argument, I'll play along.

We always stay on property when visiting the Disney parks.

Yes, we've had rooms cleaner than others, but I'm not going to write off Disney due to a few finger prints on the mirrors or a hair in the tub.
I have stayed in far more expensive places and seen far worse rooms than what Disney has offered us. I can't tell you how many times I've walked into our Disney resort room to freshly shampooed carpets! How often can you say that?

Not on the bandwagon for everything Disney, but I can say that the pros far outweigh the cons, and I've given fair reviews on those sites you (OP) are scouring for negativity.

If you want to seriously consider all aspects of a Disney vacation, by all means, hang around and be open minded.... if not, take the negativity elsewhere.

Have a lovely evening. :)

I can agree with you on writing off Disney just for fingerprints on a mirror, but we are talking about bugs in beds, smelly rooms, dirty underwear under comforters, water leaks, etc. To me at least, that is a big difference.

I've stayed on property 5 times, in all levels (POFQ, YC, CR, Pop, BW CL). I've yet to have a bad experience with a room.

I will say that I always wear flip flops around the room (anywhere, not just at Disney) simply because I know that it isn't feasible to clean the carpet in between each guest, and who knows what's in the carpet.

I bet that you'll find bad reviews of every single hotel on the planet. Disney has LOTS and LOTS of rooms. Are there some with problems? Probably. But by far and large, it seems like they're fine. Plus, people have generally reported that Disney is quick to correct any problems reported by guests.

Honestly, though, I'm not sure why I am responding to this thread. OP seems insistent upon pointing out negative reviews rather than taking our word for it that there are likely more good rooms than bad. OP, if you're so set on staying off property, it may be in your best interest to stop bothering looking up reviews of Disney resorts and just staying off site.

It sounds to me like you are searching for the cleanest room possible. Then, I would recommend booking a WDW room at a resort with a very recent room refurbishment. I'm talking about the complete room refurbishments scheduled about every 7 years or so at WDW. The next complete room refurbishment that I know of is Carribean Beach Resort, scheduled to begin April 2014. I would guess an August 2014 reservation would probably yield a brand new room. You have to time this kind of thing carefully as booking too early and you might be put in a room not refurbished yet. If you book too late after the rehab and the room might not be "perfect."

Now, I believe the Polynesian Resort has just gone through a room refurbishment at most of their buildings this past year, 2013.

Good luck with booking whatever kind of vacation resort/room you are looking for.

So the reviewer said that their room smelled like vomit/sour milk but just because they couldn't 100% be sure that it was caused from vomit/sour milk than it is okay? What in the world?

I have stayed at The Peabody and The Waldorf Astoria the last 3 times I came to Orlando. I can assure you that there weren't any bugs in the beds (just because we are in Florida - lol), stains in the carpet, smelly rooms, or hair in the sinks/tubs.
Well, farhamptonnc, first you decided the smell was vomit despite not having been there. A bug in a bed doesn't make the bug a bed bug. I can't see pictures, but a bedbug would've been in the mattress seams or somewhere equally discreet. And since MOST people aren't having these negative experiences, chances are excellent you wouldn't either. 8f you ever actually chose to stay onsite.

Neither the Waldorf nor the Peabody is immune to negative reviews/"terrible" rankings. Here's one of the (51) terrible - their word, not mine - reviews of The Peabody "As an elite Starwood member I usually only stay in spg properties around the world, however since Zumba convention was held at this hotel and the OC convention center and Hilton I decided to try the Peabody this year instead of the Hilton! Big mistake ! First they charge for internat whereas the Hilton also attached to the convention center doesn't! The first room they put me in was small and smelly the bellman who came to drop the luggage was like they put you here? And he contacted the desk to have them find a different room to be moved to. He was helpful ! The second room still in the old tower was slightly bigger with a view of the pool. He turned on the ac and then left ! The room smelled like maybe cigarette or from the ac or mold so I called the desk to have someone come and spray the room then the ac was whistling so I called the desk again to have someone come and check the ac after the maintenance fiddled with it for over an hour and taped up some loose thing in it it was ok so I left the room and came back two hours later to go sleep the room still had a horrid smell so I contacted the desk to see if I could switch rooms in the morning and the girl said sure but the room wouldn't be ready in the morning".

Farhamptonnc, if you want to focus on the comparatively few negatives reviews and ignore the multiple positive ones, go ahead. If you don't want to stay onsite, don't.

We have stayed off site before. We stayed at the Nick Hotel 3 years ago. With your statements on this subject line, I would stay away from that one as in don't come within 300 feet of this place.

In my younger (many years ago) days, my family would stay in various cheap Kissimme hotels that got the job done.

A friend of mine stayed this past Summer 2013 at the Regal Palms Resort and loved it, but there are plenty of negatives on that resort. It's not a resort that interests me when there are plenty of on site WDW resorts.

Orlando has huge competition in the Resort/Hotel business. Everyone is competing for the best employees at the best price. Disney is proud as a peacock, and they don't like the idea of anyone outperforming them. Universal is their arch enemy, right? So, WDW will grab the best employees they can at the best price they can. I can only have two suggestions for you. One is to consider WDW Club Level which Disney places only their best of the best employees to work these areas. Two, is consider staying in a room with a complete (and very recent as in within the past couple of months or so) room rehab.

Other than this I have nothing more to recommend.

Now, I'll guess a moderator is getting ready to close this one up. Please. Close this one up.

So moving someone to a different room justifies and excuses the condition of the room that smelled like vomit? All is good? Or Having bugs in your bed, etc... All is good? I know you guys love Disney but surely you can't just dismiss this stuff or someone that questions these rooms. I am trying to figure out why some of you just dismiss anything bad that has been said about a Disney resort that costs $500/night.

I have been going to disney for 25+ years. We keep coming back because we obviously enjoy it. We've had issues with rooms that when reported were taken care of. I can't just dismiss the above, but sometimes sh-- happens. It is what they do after something happens that matters to me.

If you are spending $500 a night at a hotel yes there are expectations but realize IMO the room is not worth 500 in any scenario, you are paying for location, experience, grounds,o transportation on property, mde, and everything else and the room. No room with 2 beds is worth the money by itself. With that said I keep coming back.

As for how the above happens:
- prior guest vomited, housekeeping cleaned, once room was closed up the stench return, unfortunate and does need to be fixed.
- bugs, imagine bugs in a warm climate. They aren't bed bugs, and no I don't want bugs and would not be happy. I would imagine that poly will have more problems with this right now as they disturb the earth with all of the renovations. I feel confident that disney is probably doing addition pest control. I was in a NYC holiday inn a few years ago. 300 bucks a night 25 to park, I killed multiple roaches. Not until I put live bugs in water cup and placed it at the front desk counter did they do anything. I believe disney would react quicker. I know they have a pretty aggressive program in regards to controlling and eliminating bed bugs and have specific protocols in place. It is not a matter of dismissing anything that happens, it is realizing that it is impossible to have everything perfect with zero exceptions based on the price of a room.

Again I have had issues that have required visits to front desk, but in my estimation in a resort with 20 to 30,000 rooms, they do a pretty good job. When I check in I feel that cm's are happy to help, are friendly, and will help me to the best of their ability. I can't say that is my experience at other hotels, no matter what I'm paying. As for the OP, believe what you want, with potentially 60000-80000 guests in rooms on a nightly basis, there will be Issues. It's been awhile since I looked but the number one hotel on trip advisor in Orlando was a Drury Inn, fine hotel and lower cost but I doubt it truly is the best hotel in Orlando or where I want to spend my vacation, but heck that's what the reviews say...

Will be my first time alone on property, Saratoga Springs ( hols been gifted to me for my 50th ) was really excited about it until reading this thread, am a bit glum now : (

Please don't let a few random incidences ruin your vacation. I've stayed in five different resorts in WDW and DLR and going back twice this year... if it was so bad, I wouldn't be returning!
