Patty, just because a few posters on this board say their rooms were clean doesn't necessarily make it the truth for all of the rooms at a resort. One of these posters on this thread said their room smelled like vomit, and they had to wear socks just to walk on the carpet. You don't think that is a problem? I highly doubt all of these reviews were false especially when they post pictures of bugs in their review, and all have consistent themes.
Having worked at hotels, I can honestly say that there is no way you will ever find a "spotless" hotel room. This is for a number of reasons but here are just a few simple explanations as to why you will never find what you are looking for.
1. Bugs pick where they want to live, not the owners or operators or even staff of the hotel. I am not saying it is not gross by any means, because it is and honestly it is off-putting. But lets be honest here in that you have probably found numerous spiders, ants, flies etc in your own bed or on your walls at home. Again, it is off putting but I'm sure no CM put that bug in your bed.
2. Dirt on the floors. How many times have you tried to scrub your own floor and home and can't get the darn dirt out of the grout in your tiles?!? If you answer that you get it out every time please tell me your secret!
3. Carpets. People spill things, kids puke, people wear their shoes in the room. That is why there are stains and that is why it is dirty. (Have you met your feet after you walk around Disney in flip flops? One word! Ew... yea you put that on the carpet too) and stainwise- at home if someone spills grape juice you clean it right away or else its there to stay. At a hotel when someone spills they grab a towel from the bathroom and they get up what they get up. Not everyone calls housekeeping "come quick, I spilled coffee it needs to be treated now". I mean in all honesty its not your house or your responsibility at a hotel so why would you call. I get it, but be understanding.
4. Dirty light fixtures and slow drains. Housekeepers get paid minimum wage typically and 9 times out of 10 they are given at least one too many rooms to clean. You want early check-in, you've got it, dusty lights and all. They rush to accommodate you. Want a clean room? Check in after check-in time when a majority are done and there is less stress on the housekeeper. Slow drains? I don't know about you but as long as the hair in my shower at home is hiding I'm good! When it is inside the tub or starts coming up the drain that is when I have a problem.
5. Room Changes- I get it. You see a bug, there's a puke stain on the carpet, there's a poop stain on the toilet- you want a room change! Hi, my name is Amanda- lowly front desk/ reception worker- how can I help you? "oh my god I want my room comped I saw a bug, my toilet won't flush, etc. Give me a new room and a discount" Ok! Now this girl who is generally very accommodating now wants you to get out of my hotel. I won't say that because I will act polite. But it is really all in the tone that you use with front desk workers/ CMs (at disney). I understand that you are upset but screaming at me and demanding a refund will not help! (Again, see how I did not place the bug inside your bed, it was the one that decided it wanted to live there) The nicer and more calm you are, the nice and more calm we are. If you say "hey, I wanted to tell you that room 301... well, i think it should be fumigated.. Is there any way that I could possibly have a new room?" this is probably a response you will get from us "Oh wow, thanks for notifying us, I'll call up the bug-killer right away and have him get on that. Here's a key for room 104, Do you need help taking your luggage there instead?" Yeah wow how nice.
6. Inability to change rooms/ room requests- So here's the deal on this: Sometimes (i.e. peak periods, holidays etc) hotels are booked solid. As in, if some freak snowstorm happened, and I had to stay at the hotel I would have to rest my head at my managers desk. We have nowhere else to put you, sorry. I get it if you have a late flight, but if you are out at the bar and walk up to my desk intoxicated and request a room change and I have no rooms available, you sir are out of luck, and I will come upstairs with my gloves on and unclog your sink. Things like this cannot be changed. It's not our fault blame corporate, we want to sell out the rooms that is how we make our money. And if you are really displeased we would call a sister hotel and have you transferred, we would even drive you there. Now for my favorite! Room requests! Everyone wants the best view in the house, at Disney they can guarantee you one of the best but you'll pay extra. Hey at least you know you'll be looking at the garden and not the concrete right? But you need to know that you still are not guaranteed the best view in the house, especially not if you want a microwave and a rollaway bed and a second floor room with a balcony and extra towels and shampoo and the list could go on. In my opinion. Set your sights low anytime you go to a hotel and just get more and more pleased anytime something is good. Go in there expecting to have bedbugs, and floor stains, and cobwebs, and be staring directly at a pavement jungle. Also expect that it will be either as hot as the sun or as cold as Antarctica. And then...... when you walk in and the curtains are pulled open and the sun is shining on the bug-free bed and the scent that you smell is windex be happy!
Really people! It is all about expectations!! Lower them, not just for hotels but for anything and you will see how nice your outlook can actually be. Disney is the happiest freaking place on Earth!!! But only if you allow it to be. If you go in thinking "well I just paid $100 to get in now I have to dump $70 on food at least, and I have to wait in a 90 minute line to ride a 5 minute long ride. Then I will have to listen to my kid screaming because she wants her picture taken with Belle..." (again the list could go on, and honestly it is all true, I'm not saying that at all.) that will be how your day goes, but if you go in and say "ok, I'm here on vacation lets make the best of it and run to the castle like a 4 year old, then you my friend... well, you should take me with you"
So to wrap it up. Life's what you make it (so lets make it rock!.. Lol Hannah Montana anyone? no, no takers? ok...) Enjoy the fact that you can:
A. afford to go to a Disney Park
B. afford to stay at a Disney Resort
and C. Have the right to post whatever you want about either.
But if you don't want to listen to these reasons. PM me I can give you 90 more!!
Best of luck if you do still decide to stay if not I'd gladly enjoy the rooms for you!
