*Food Processor

I have become paralyzed. Every time I choose one, I can't pull the trigger because of reviews. Anyone LOVE their food processor? I am looking for a mid-sized one that can grate carrots, slice cucumbers and chop nuts

TIA
Ana

I would buy one at Costco because of their return policy. If it doesn't live up to the hype, take it back. I think mine is cuisinart. Got it at costco ages ago. Still works great.

I have a basic Cuisinart model. I don't use it as much as I thought I would, but the times I use it, I love it! Need to shred a ton of carrots for a carrot cake? Brzzzt..done! Need to shred a million pounds of cheese for a baked mac n cheese? Brzzzt...done! What would take me a half hour on a box grater takes a minute or two on the Cuisinart (and no busted/bloody knuckles!)

Lately I've been using it to process my stale bread heels from my homemade sandwich loaves into bread crumbs. It's been a while but I've also made a mean homemade salsa a time or two, and one of these days I'll make a pesto.

What is making you so nervous about this purchase? Really, if you read a lot of reviews about ANY product on line, you are going to find bunches of complaints, some valid, some ridiculous. If you are unsure, buy the one with what seems to be the best reviews, and if you don't like it, return it. Costco and a number of other retailers have very generous return policies, just know what that policy is before you buy and if you think there is a possibility that you might want to return it later, don't buy from somewhere that only does exchanges. If reliability is a big concern, buy it with a credit card that doubles the manufacturers warranty.

It seems like every brand is hit or miss. I want the Cuisinart Prep plus. But there talk of the bowl breaking easily. Costco only sells the 11 cup version. That might be too big for me

I felt like that last year when I was shopping for a food processor.

I got the Cuisinart Prep 11 Plus from Costco for around $100, and I LOVE it. I use it at least once a week. It's big, but I'm fortunate to have plenty of storage in my kitchen. And it came with a nice separate plastic box with latching lid that holds the slicing blade, shredding blade, dough blade and the chopping blade.

i've got a cuisinart i've had since 2004. it's a 3 cup food processor but it does the job. i mainly use mine to grate cheeses i bulk buy.

I have a small cuisinart I use for chopping and pureeing smaller amounts. I also have a larger cuisinart food processor that also has a blender attachment. I've had it since about 2004. It works great and the blender can handle anything. I'm not sure what size it is since I've had it so long, but I know it's a lot smaller than 11 cups. I've had great luck with every cuisinart and kitchen aid product I have ever owned.

It's probably 3 or 4 cups.

We got the Ninja blender food processor combo from Costco and love it. Makes awesome smoothies and the processor is great too! I have done a ton it it including pesto, nuts, mashed cauliflower, and then also not cooked cauliflower to make rice. It has those individual cups too. It's on sale often at Costco and i figured it it sucked we could take it back.

I have the Kitchen-Aid. I got it at Target. I LOVE it! It is nice and quiet! It is amazing and super easy on clean up.

Ask yourself this.. "how many times would I use this"? If you are some one who cooks a lot and find herself chopping, blending, pureeing then go for it. If you are the occasional cook then I would not spend the money on something that I won't use that often and will take up space on the counter.

Yes Costco has a great return policy. I took back an item I bought for DH that he never used and had it for 9 months. No questions asked.

Cuisinart - pick a size and go with it. I've owned many other brands (including Kitchenaid). The Cuisinart will hold up the best. I have one that is 30 years old.

I use my food processor almost daily. The large one is great if you like to bake. It does a better job of mixing really stiff dough like for shortbread. I also prefer using food processor instead of my Kitchenaid mixer for kneading bread dough.

I of course use one for chopping and shredding but it really is useful for baking. Homemade pie crust, biscuits, scones, etc are so easy to make in a food processor.

I love my Hamilton beach big mouth. It can be a bit loud if that is a concern, but all the components are dishwasher safe and it's fantastic for what I've used it for (shredding carrots, making nut butter, cauliflower rice, romesco sauce). Also reasonably priced, which was the main factor for me.

I love, love, love my Cuisinart. Never had any issues with the bowl breaking. it's very well made.

Cooks Illustrated swears by Kitchenaid for mixers and Cuisinart for food processors. I have not been disappointed by their recommendations.

Hamilton Beach food processor $43
I love this food processor and I have owned several different brands and sizes of food processors over the years.

It comes with shredding and slicing discs in 2 sizes so nothing additional to buy.

I ruined the Hamilton Beach discs after several years of putting them in the dishwasher so I bought a Cuisinart and returned it after using it over 2 days for about 10 different items. I will buy another Hamilton Beach soon but it still works great; I just don't have the slicing/shredding discs.

The Cuisinart, even though the capacity was greater than the Hamilton Beach, overflowed - the opening on the Cuisinart is only a couple inches high, so you have to do everything in small batches and it makes an unholy mess. Also, the Cuisinart pureed everything I put in, no matter how careful I was to pulse, yet still left big chunks [for instance, of onion] that did not get sucked under the blade at all.

With the Hamilton Beach you get a very even chop, and if you want to mince or puree you just continue to pulse or run it.

And it does pass the hummus test.

It's really inexpensive compared to Cuisinart and Kitchen Aid.

Glad to hear this! Just took delivery today of the HB 70730 (10 cup bowl scraper, looks very similar except mine is 450 watts). I'll take note of hand-washing the discs. Are you aware that you can get replacements discs from the HB website? (Mine only came with a slicer/shredder disc, I'm debating on ordering the crinkle cut/fine shredder disc.)

I kinda liked the idea of the bowl scraper and it generally got good reviews on Amazon. I also like the wide mouth that will take a full block of cheese. I need to go shopping tomorrow so I can test drive it. :thumbsup2

Plus, mine was free!!! Well, not really, I used credit card points to get it...;) :rolleyes1
