Cast: Me(30) and DH(31). DH has a chronic pain condition and uses a power wheelchair so I have included information about accessibility for those that are interested in such things. He can walk a few feet and transfer to a regular chair. However, he prefers to stay in his PC and this requires a table that he can drive straight into his "seat" because it is hard to maneuver the chair around in between crowded tables. We always explain this when entering a restaurant and I always state that we are willing to wait longer for a suitable table. We stayed on the concierge floor at AKL, so we did not eat breakfast out and supplemented meals with snacks from the lounge.
Saturday (check-out day) We ordered room service breakfast because we wanted something more substantial than the continental breakfast provided in the lounge. We should have just ordered one meal. We each ordered the egg platter (advertised as two eggs with toast, choice of meat and breakfast potatoes). There must have been 4-5 eggs in my scrambled eggs, 5 pieces of bacon (2 large pork chops on DH's plate) and a large serving of potatoes. Everything arrived hot and on time there was just a lot of it.
We had lunch at Bongo's. This had to be the second most disappointing meal of the whole trip (WP's was the worst due to the cold patio issues). Our service slow and poor even though we ate late and the restaurant was not busy at all. We were served dinner rolls before our meals arrived. These were not Cuban bread, but plain old dinner rolls that you might get at a cafeteria. They had obviously been under heat lamps and were stale and so dry that parts of them were crunchy. Asked for a fresh basket, but never received it. DH ordered the El Hatuey steak which had good flavor, but was still quite tough. It is a tenderized skirt steak which can be difficult to cook properly. The accompanying tostones had no flavor at all. I ordered a salad. Only two dressings are offered, citrus vinaigrette and ranch. I opted for the ranch. With only two, I figured they must be made in-house. Not so the dressing was a cheap watery bottled version. I also ordered the chicken sandwich that was advertised as marinated grilled breast. The sandwich was large and contained a breast or two that had been flattened and then cooked. No flavor at all and large pieces of gristle and fat and even a piece of bone had been left on the chicken. I ate one bite and then had some of DH's steak. Our server had already let our check and a bartender whisked it away before I could stop him to complain about the food. Our server had vanished a long time before as we were her last table. We just paid and left because we really didn't want to waste any more of our time there. Our fault we should have said something, but with only 2 hours left
We did have dessert sundaes at Ghiradelli before returning to AKL to pick up our luggage and car. Awesome ending to our vacation!
Overall, we were impressed with the food and service at WDW. We did have a few negative experiences, but no place can be perfect all of the time. I do plan to write WP's about the accessibility issues we had there because those should not have happened. But general poor service can happen anywhere and I just have to hope that they were isolated incidents and not indicative of how we will be treated the next time.
