We're back from our trip the first week of this month, and I'm finally gotten enough mundane stuff out of the way to get back to the board. Here's the run down on our meals.

Except the first day, the meals were either late breakfasts or lunches as our big meal for the day. We stayed at the Poly GVC and had breakfast in the lounge each day except our final morning. Dinners were a series of snacks for the most part between the parks, club lounge, Capt'n Cooks and stuff we brought with us. I lost count of the number of PBJs my older DD had at the club lounge over the course of our stay.

General Capt'n Cooks - Grade C - About par for the course, the wait times for any foods requiring preparation were extremely long. The food in general was pretty mediocre. We did appreciate the healthy options (carrots & apple sauce) as alternative to fries on the kids meals. These items when not consumed on the spot were individually packaged, so we could bring them back to the refridgerator in the room for later consumption.

General Poly Club Lounge - Grade A - The Chefs did a wonderful job letting us know what was safe for our DD6 with her peanut allergy. The heavy appetizer offerings each night were well prepared and quite tasty. It was nice having the opportunity to try some of the offerings from the resort restaurants like the meat skewers and Kona's chowder. With a large planned meal for lunch, a sampling of the heavy appetizers and some stuff we brought with us was often enough to serve as a dinner.

1/2 Dinner @ Chef Mickeys - Grade A for food and character interaction - This was an excellent way to start off our vacation. My b-day is 1/3, and this was going to be our dinner to celebrate it. We began with a vist from the chef who walked the entire buffet with DW and DD6 to identify any items that could be a problem for DD's peanut allergy. The prime rib was marvelous as was the salmon. The kids pretty much stuck to the pizza, mac and cheese and chicken strips, except for DD6 who is our fish eater and enjoyed the salmon as well. The server was wonderful and very attentive. Refills on drinks were well timed, and plates disappeared between trips to the buffet. On the character side, we had some good moments with Mickey, but Goofy pretty much stole the show. He stopped by our table maybe four or five times; however, whenever he passed the low wall shielding our table from the buffet area a new napkin landed on DM. He also appeared at the time they present my b-day cupcake, and we had a race to see who could blow the candle out first. Goofy won. :rotfl2:

1/3 Late Breakfast @ CRT - Grade B- (food), Grade B+ (character interaction)
We were amazed that we were able to get into CRT. We had wish listed this when we sent in our requests to the Poly IPO. I called every few days on the hopes of a cancellation with no luck, but when we arrived and received our ADR print-out, there it was. The food was only so so. It's hard to mess up eggs and bacon, so we were pretty safe. The stuffed french toast was not as good as we remember from prior experience. The OJ was excellent, but the coffee was only tolerable. The service was very good. Our server did a good job of checking with us for seconds on food and beverages. The character interactions were pretty good. As our ADR was tagged with my bday, we received a personal visit that involved each princess and fairy GM signing a card provided by our server. I think this may be our last princess meal for a while. Our DDs were no where near as hyped about the experience as they were when they were a little younger.

I'll keep going with our views on Mama Melrose (lunch), CP (lunch), San Angel Inn (lunch) and 'Ohana (breakfast) when I have some more time. If anyone has any questions regarding the above, I'll be happy to field them. :)

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Can't wait for more,

1/4 Lunch @ Mama Melrose's - Grade A- (Food)
The food here was wonderful. I had the sausage and peppers. DW and DM both had the eggplant. DD6 had the kids pizza, and the other two had the kids pasta with the four cheese sause. The only reason for the - was the apparent inability to handle my request to have some mozzarella melted over the sausage and peppers. Both DW and DM praised the eggplant napoleon. Both DDs loved their meals. DS did not, but he was coming off of a melt down, so I'm not sure anything would have pleased him. After lunch, I had him while DM and DW took DDs in separate directions; once I had him in the stroller for about 10 min, he settled down for about a 3.5 hour nap...

Speaking of which, he's just come to the computer to let me know he needs a snack. More later...

1/5 Lunch @ CP - Grade C+ (food), Grade B+ (character interaction)
I'm sorry to say CP did not live up to our expectations. The food was okay, but generally had a "less than fresh" appearance and taste. We had a 12:40 lunch reservation so we were pretty late in the day. The kids' mac & cheese was a bit crusty. The meat at the carving station was pretty dry. The desserts overall were pretty good. In terms of the characters, we had a reasonably good time with them. Some of the visits were a little too rushed from Eyeore and Pooh. We never saw Piglet. The plus on the grade is almost entirely due to my favorite of the Pooh characters, namely Tigger. He made it a point to visit with each of kids, and he gave all of us some bouncing lessons. He stopped by the table twice and wandered over to say goodbye when he saw us leaving and he was crossing the middle food area. I'm willing to give the restaurant the benifit of the doubt. We may give it a shot for a breakfast down the road.

I'll get the last two as I can...

Thanks for sharing your reviews. I've never tried Crystal Palace for lunch or dinner, but I've had breakfast there 2x and it is very good! :sunny:

1/6 Lunch @ San Angel - Grade A
We had a wonderful experience at San Angel in the Mexico pavillion. We had an ADR for opening time. The CM led us to a table right next to the railing overlooking the river boat ride and pyramid. The children were provided with the kids menu with activities and crayons. In my review of Mama Melrose above, I should have mentioned that the kids were provided with these as well. DM and I both ordered the tacos al carbon (chicken) and were very pleased with it. Nothing fancy but well prepared and tasty. For the children (DDs only as DS was at AK w/DW), none of the menu items were particularly to their tastes; however, my DDs really love bean and cheese burritos. We asked if they could make these on the kids menu, and the server made it happen without a blink. I combined the food quality, the atmosphere and the willingness to accomodate off the menu requested to reach the grade above. If you are just looking at the food alone, I'd probably drop it to a B+ or A-. DW and I may not go back here when we have are anniversary trip next December with just the two of us, but I can definitely see us returning again on a trip with the kids.

1/7 Breakfast @ 'Ohana - Grade B+ (food), Grade A (character interaction)
The breakfast at 'Ohana is served family style. The meal begins with a bread bowl filled with a variety of items. I recommend the pineapple bread if you've never tried it as it's one of our favorites. By this point in our trip, however, we had already sampled it numerous times as it's a regular on the morning offerings in the club lounge. The coffee is not as good as the Kona pressed pot at the Kona cafe but it was generally okay enough to get me going. The OJ was very good. The main meal followed the bread and beverage offerings. The eggs, MM waffles, sausage, bacon and potatoes are brought out on a large serving platter. The CM server was very good about checking if we needed refills of beverages or more of any of the food items.

The character interaction was terrific. We were a little disappointed when the CM told us that Lilo was feeling under the weather and could not make it that morning. MM, Pluto and Stitch, however, were there in force. The restaurant did not appear that crowded to me, so we may have had the benefit of a small turn out. All three characters visited us multiple times. Pluto and Stitch had a running session of playing jokes on each other throughout the meal. We could see Stitch sticking out his foot in front of Pluto, and Pluto making a show of tripping over it. We also saw Pluto sneak up on Stitch and tickle him, and Stitch reacted by jumping up. Besides these interactions, all three took their time and visited with us each time they came around. We did not feel in any way that they rushed with the interactions. The kids also participated in the parade around the restaurant. DDs participated in a second after DW took DS back to the room to finish packing. Here's a family shot with Stitch and me with Mickey from this breakfast; click to see larger version.

That's it for my food reviews. If y'all have any questions, I'd be more than happy to field them.

Great reviews. Thanks.

BTW, sorry to hear about your CP experience. That is a bummer. It has always been great when we went.
