Review time....asking for a raise UPDATE/Question post #8

Review time is coming up and I really would like to ask for a raise. I feel like I am doing above and beyond my job description and therefore I feel I deserve a raise. I have been doing research on my position and doing an across the board comparison, however, I am not quite sure how to present myself. I have worked up a rough draft, including my current job description and a description of the work I actually do. I have researched comparative jobs in my area as well as completed a search on salary.com. I have the information, I just need help with my presentation. Any thoughts????
 
I KNOW when I came to the review w/ the current job description & what I was currently doing, they were miles apart. It helped me get the raise. I was scared to death though asking.

It sounds like you have the research down. You'd just need to go in there with the confidence that you deserve it. A positive attitude is a must! Hopefully someone can give more specific & better ideas though--I'm terrible at situations like that. I'm a full fledged chicken. :rotfl2:

Curious if I should have packets made up for each reviewer including all of my research.
 

Apart from doing comparative research (which is helpful), I would focus on clearly documenting your achievements for the past year in comparison to your job description and goals. Point out areas where you successfully met or even exceeded expectations; times when you achieved goals and the resulting benefits to the company. Detail how you have added value to the department and the company. These are key areas that will demonstrate that a raise is more than justified.

Thank you. I have never done this before and have never felt stronger that a raise was justified, so I am a wee bit nervous. Reviews are in January so I want to be well prepared.

Well, they had reviews last week and I was on vacation. Now one of the reviewers is on vacation so I am put off another week or so.

The good news is I received a raise in my paycheck today even without my presentation. (One of my co-worker wonders if this is to head me off before my review). It was 3/4 of what I wanted, it is just below the 25th percentile for this area and I was looking to be just over. Although I am glad that I received a raise I am still wondering if I should go with what I was presenting before. I spent so much prep time on this, I have outlined my position, then outlined what I do (which is a lot more than required) and I have highlighted what I have contributed to the company and also included some comparable jobs and salaries for this area. I was all set and ready to present, I had been buiding myself up for this for weeks. So now what, when I finally have my review should I tell them I appreciate the raise, but feel based on my job performance and all of the extra stuff outside of my job description that I would like a little more or do I take what was given and not say a word and be grateful for what I got?
