Actually, an unintended lunch. Last Thursday we did the Backstage Safari Tour, with a movie at PI scheduled for the late afternoon. Dinner was to be at Raglan Road at 8:00. So when the Safari Tour ended around noon we had 8 hours to go to dinner. Lunch seemed a good idea (we rarely eat lunch at Disney) and our first thought was Tusker House, right across the street from where the Safari Tour let out. Unfortunately, there was a long line, and the acrobats/drummers were also entertaining. The whole area was noisy and crowded, so we decided to wander over to Asia (we wanted to ride Kali River anyway). Enroute we passed Yak and Yeti. When I told our little group what kind of place it was, we decided it would do for lunch.
As most know, it's a pretty restaurant with a nice bar and lounge area. The tables are spaced relatively far apart--unusual with Theme park restaurants, and nice if it lasts!! The place wasn't very crowded and we were seated upstairs. I should note that the stairway is rather long--they also have elevators that serve the area. All the restrooms are on the FIRST floor.

The menu has been done several times on the Boards, so I'll just say it is pretty mainstream Chinese, with a bit of Japanese thrown in. One pleasant suprise was the beer list--several offerings from Asia and a few of which I'd never heard. I decied on Kingfisher--a beer from India. Not bad, pretty much a basic lager. The others in our party of 4 had Merlot and Long Island Ice tea.
For lunch I ordered 2 appetizers--the Pork Pot Stickers and the Pork Egg Rolls. There were 5 pot stickers of average size with a soy dipping sauce. There were two egg rolls, with a chili/plum dipping sauce. Neither knocked me off my feet--the egg rolls were pretty bland, with little hint of pork. The stickers were a bit better, but really not as good as what I get at Ruby Tuesdays.
One of our party got the Lettuce Cups, while the other 2 ordered Shrimp Tempura. The Tempura were 5 medium size shrimp with rice and vegetables. Both of our group like those. The lettuce cups were heavy on the lettuce and less than heavy on the minced chicken breast filling. "So so "was how she described them.
We didn't want to overdo things so we passed on dessert. Service was very good and prompt.
Overall I'd give the place a "C". Would we do dinner here? Not likely. But I think it'll do pretty well with the Theme park folks and having a sit down restaurant available is always a plus.

Thanks for your review!
We didn't get to Y&Y this year as we were in Africa at lunchtime, and didn't want to walk over to Asia just to eat. We settled for Tusker House, which turned out to be pretty good (for a buffet).

I agree the performers outside make it difficult at Tusker House. It can be a chore just to get to the check-in stand, let alone be heard over the drums once you get there. But once we got inside it wasn't busy at all.

Thanks for your review. Since our trip isn't until next December, I'll keep checking the Boards to read more reviews of the Yak and Yeti. I'm still undecided.

Thanks for the review. It's good to know they have Kingfisher Beer - that's what I usually order at our local Indian Restaurant. :thumbsup2

It's a shame the menu isn't more adventurous . . . However, given the general thumbs up for service and atmosphere that Y&Y has gotten on the DIS Boards, this sounds like a good place to take a break and get a light lunch and share appetizers and entrees.

My Dh and I ate at Y & Y in November and loved it. We were on the DDP and for appetizers we had the egg rolls and dim sum basket. For entree he had the Mahi Mahi and I had the Ribs. They were excellent! I would have them again. Dessert was the grilled pineapple, icecream and wontons and the other dessert was the sorbet. We will eat there again.

Thanks for the review. You always give a wonderful description of the atmosphere and the food.:)

I think they threw the pepper from your egg roll into mine. It was the only flavor in there. I really liked the chicken fried rice from there. That was all I had from there and it was CS. I just wanted a small snack. I was still hungry because I couldn't eat the dry, smoky chicken from Flame Tree. When did Flame Tree cut their bean portion in 1/2? It was a couple of tablespoons at the most.

Anyway, since I know that you like crab cake, do you like Ruby Tuesdays? It is the only place I'll order one out. They do a nice job on it.

Also, please ask your friend where was the best place he had a Long Island Ice Tea? It is my drink of choice but I'm fussy about it.

The crabcake at Ruby's is clearly on the right track (compared to the genuine Md. creation). Clearly better than anything you can get at WDW.
And he said Yachtstman's Steakhouse was the best--

Glad to hear that!!

I just moved my Le Cellier for next month to Yachtsman.

:cheer2:

We also had lunch at Yak & Yeti last week. The dim sum basket I had was very good. I just think they need a better selection on the menu. I'm glad we tried it but I don't now if we will be back.

I enjoyed your review as always. I agree that it is nice to have a table service restaurant in the park.

How was the Backstage Safari?

Fourth time we've taken it--always a good tour. And nothing beats bypassing a line with a 50 minute wait to do the safari ride!
