Just returned last night from a wonderful trip. We arrived at the CR on 7/27 at about 10:30 a.m. Bell service called the 12th floor to see if our room was ready-it was! We went up to the 12th floor and were greeted by the concierge staff. They rotate between the 12th and 14th floor, and all I can say is, the staff was excellent (especially Janet and AL :) ) . Even though the CR is in need of the rehab it's getting, it's still our favorite resort. Here's one of the first pictures i took- a view of Space Mountain from our balcony:

.........work is continuing on the 10th floor, and they started work on the 9th floor during our stay. The area of the South Garden wing that is closest to Bay Lake is also being worked on. The rest of the South Garden Wing was open. You could hear the sounds of the jackhammers grinding up the balcony tiles during the day out by the pool- they were also installing new railinings on the balconies and new sliding glass doors. Here's a view of the 10th floor curtained off:

The day before we checked out there were a lot of staff members on the 12th floor with clipboards, and a few were taking measurements, so I think they are going to begin work on the 12th floor very soon....

The elevators were also getting rehabbed during our stay ( sorry, I forgot to take pics :( ) -all new flooring -they look great! Here's another pic of the 10th floor and the 9th floor curtained off:

We asked our waitress at the Concourse Steakhouse about the 4th floor rehab, and she told us that they are planning on moving the Food 'n Fun center to the 4th floor, and the steak house down to the 1st floor, but this probably won't be for at least 3 years.

Breakfast was set out between 7-10:30 a.m. There was a nice seating area to eat, or you could take breakfast back to your room. Here's a rather blurry pic of the breakfast offerings ( guess I hadn't had my coffee yet! ):

Snacks were put out from 11-4, and included bottled water, lemonade, sodas, fruit, goldfish crackers, pretzels, brownies Mickey cupcakes, rice krispie treats, lemon squares, and congo bars. The food was always replenished quickly if any tray was empty.

.....We loved watching the fireworks from our balcony at night. You could hear the music, and I could even see tinkerbell " fly" from the castle at the beginning of Wishes :goodvibes Now that they are charging extra for a guaranteed MK view, I would definitely pay for a room on the MK side :) Here's a pic of my DS, " Dangerboy" on the balcony:

" Mousekeeping " was excellent- our room was always cleaned by the time we returned from the parks at mid-day, and any request for things like extra towels were taken care of quickly. I can't say enough good things about the staff at the CR. As an example, my DH left his sunglasses on one of the tables by the adult pool one afternoon while he was swimming. A typical late afternoon thunderstorm came up very rapidly, and his sunglasses were blown into Bay Lake. He thought they were history ( he wouldn't have minded if they were just cheapos, but they were Oakleys ). He filled out a lost item form, and his sunglasses were returned to our room 2 days later :cool1:

We will definitely be staying here again ( I have another trip planned for Columbus Day weekend in '06, and probably a surprise trip for a friend in April of '07 :) ) Any questions?

great review! Contemporary has become one of my favorite resorts...almost tied in first with the Boardwalk Inn :3dglasses

Were your DH's glasses fished out of the lake by the staff? Or did they purchase new ones for him?

Thanks for the great review! I'm glad you had a great time! We are planning to stay at the CR next Spring Break. The 10th floor will surely be done by then right? Have you heard if the Atrium Club which is supposed to be the Concierge lite, will be permanently housed on the 10th floor? Or will it move back up to the 12th floor after it is rehabbed? Just wondering if you heard anything! Any other good CR rehab info?
Thanks so much!

rileyroosmom- the sunglasses were fished out by a staff member. We were told they send divers into the lake every few days. It was just another example of the excellent service we encountered at the CR. As far as rehab news, I was told by one staff member that this rehab will be over the course of years- I think the Atrium Club will be moved to the 10th floor while the 12th floor is being rehabbed. I'm hoping we will get in one of the new rooms next year :)

What do you mean pay extra for a gauranteed MK view? We have Atrium club rese in Sept. and requested MK view, but weren't offered the 'gauranteed pay extra' option? Can you elaborate on how you know of this, cause if so, I want it, since your pics/view was so great!!! Thanks

Thanks for the great review. Glad you had a nice stay.

The CR has been one of my family's favorite resorts for many years. We also think the concierge staff there is terrific. I love that MK view!! It makes the stay even more magical being able to watch the castle change colors all night! :wizard:

I believe the extra charge for the MK view begins in 2006.

yes- the extra charge starts in '06, sorry about the confusion! Right now there are no " guaranteed MK views unless you book specific rooms on the 14th floor.

You're welcome-you'll have a great trip :)

We got back last night...we were actually staying at the BWV this trip, but have reservations for the CR tower in Nov....we went to CR for breakfast 1 AM and while talking to a CM I mentioned the fact that they had closed off both sides of the 10th floor and the park view side of the 11th floor and she said they were going quickly on room rehabs and she expected 10th floor to reopen within a week or so. She also said it was her understanding that the Atrium Club lounge would remain on 10th floor and that all the rooms on 10, 11 and 12 would eventually be Atrium Club rooms (after room rehabs are completed). She also said that they would be starting on 12th floor room rehabs as soon as 10th floor was open.

For those of us that have long enjoyed the park view rooms on 10th and 11th floor it looks like those days are over....to get a park view room on an upper floor you will not only have to pay the $50 - 60/night upcharge for the view we will also have to pay for club service....which runs about $60 - 80/night so to add another $120 - 140/night to the base price of a tower room would put them up there with Lodge concierge at the Gr FL (and that is full concierge)

Oh well....I guess we will really soak up the view in November, because it may be a LONG time before we get back there again!! Of course all that assumes the CM's info was correct....and although it does make sense I think the Disney employee rumor mill is no more accurate than any other places....in other words...it may just be speculation.

Hi-
Just to add some more info. We booked the 12th floor for the first week of January. I asked the CM about a guaranteed view of the MK. She told me that you can pay extra for the MK view on the other floors, but not for concierge. I was told that it is not an option on the 12th floor. You can only request it. I would love it if she was wrong and that I could pay for a guaranteed view, but according to her the extra fee for an MK tower view is not for concierge. Please tell me if any of you great Disney fans have heard different. Thanks!!

We just got home today from 7 nights in a South Garden Wing room. We never heard any construction noise at all. We were in the corridor that runs straight through the wing from the entrance from the main building. The corridor that tees off from the lobby of the South Building is closed for construction. When they start doing the rooms where we stayed, it will make it lots more inconvienient for the guests. I guess they will have to exit and enter through the parking lot door.
