Um, no matter what happens in the Series. The Red Sox were responsible for the Yankee's choking, yep, that's right, choking. The biggest comeback in MLB history. 0-3 to 4-3. Unbelievable.
1. Um, David Ortiz has played first base quite a bit. Actually, during the first half of the season, while Nixon was out, he played first base on a daily basis. He is quite capable.
2. The Red Sox's offensive line-up is pretty dangerous in their own right. No 2 players have higher combined HR's this year than Manny & Ortiz. Defense? During the series with the Skankees, the Red Sox had a total of 1 error.
3. Boston has great pitching. They will be suturing Curt's tendon together again (yuck!) & hopefully he can pitch like he did when he shut down the Skankees. Oh, and you forgot Foulke. The closer that was missing from the line-up last year. A big reason, if not the reason, the Red Sox are headed to the World Series.
As for what will Steinbrenner do? Who knows? I think everyone is looking forward to what he will do. He's got a lotta guys with high payrolls that he can't just "get rid of". It'll be interesting to see what he does, no doubt about it.
It was a great series, that's for sure. I am looking forward to Saturday night. It's been a long time coming.
GO RED SOX!!!!
