Not long to go now.............

Can anybody confirm whether or not the Revenge of the Mummy ride at Universal is now up and running?

The Universal website says open from the 21st May 04, but I had a flyer e-mail from universal the other day and I am sure it said the opening date was late June, in which case we would miss it:confused3

A Guy from work has just been (arrived back 20th May) and went on it - best ride he went on while in Orlando. He said the official opening was imminent but this was only the official ceremony. It's been up and running for a while so you should be OK.

We were fortunate enough to be able to ride it (5 times!) on 7th April when they were doing the test runs. Although some of the effects were not fully working, it was still absolutely terrific! Thrilling, scary, surprising .....etc

Highly recommended.

I would expect that it must be fully working by now.

ps Word of warning - you have to leave all your belongings in the lockers next to the ride

Can you remember what the height restriction was?
TIA,
Ian

The ride was reviewed in the Sunday Times travel section last week. sounds great.

Ian,

Just spotted you are going to PBH soon. Let me know what you think - we've got one night booked there next March.

Will do Julie. And thanks for the Mummy link, apparently you have to be 137.2cm to ride (I think that's about 54", could be wrong!).
So both ds and dd are out for that one for a few years! Never mind. Only problem is we'll have to miss it probably, as dw doesn't ever agree to using baby swap. I'll have to work on getting her to agree to the kids going to a kids club when we are staying at PBH or RPR!
Thanks again.
Ian

Just got back today (28th). Can confirm the 'Revenge of the Mummy' is open and working.
Went on before the opening for a 'Technical Ride'. This meant all the effects weren't working. Still good ride though. Wife had her eyes shut most of the way round.
Went on after the opening. Even better. Wife would not go on again.
Would recommend Fastpass or endure a long wait.
Deinately one of the better rides in Florida.

The Mummy is definately up and running. The June date is referring to Universal Studios in California.

Yes, it is (a fairly ungenerous) 54 inches. To my mind, this is no worse than Big Thunder (height requirement, 40in), although the fact it is in the dark (and starts faster and turns tighter) make it seem a LOT more dynamic. This is one of the great new rides of recent years and a real boost to USF. I was there for the official opening (very grand, with some serious pyrotechnics and Brendan Fraser in attendance) and was very impressed (hence the ST article). It is almost like the Great Movie Ride meets Rock n RollerCoaster (but without the inversions). The LIM propulsion adds a new feel to the coaster and there are some special effects that really knock your socks off. It still feels a bit short at 4mins total (as does RnR) but the overall theming and style make it a five-star thrill.

just got back (30th) and revenge of the mummy is fully open with all effects. Very good ride but way too scary for our 8yr old (the anamatronic mummy is stunning):D
