Reuseable Mugs questions

I've heard this from a friend who's actually an imagineer,

Apparently what they are working on is a system that is used with your resort ID. What will happen (in the very near future I might add) Is that when you purchase your mug during that current stay, it will have a sleek coding printed around the lip of the mug, in order to use the mug at refill stations when you press it up to the dispenser the machine will read the code on your mug. If its valid the machine will dispense the liquid of your choice into the mug, if its not the liquid will not come out of the machine. They will link this to your resort ID, and this is how it will work. :scared:

As we all know resort ID's have just about every privileged on them, they serve many functions, and have the dates of your stay printed right on them too. when you purchase this mug, you will show your ID (only when purchasing) your Individual ID will be swiped then the mug will be scanned. they will do this for each quest in each party. ( So if DH is getting a mug his resort ID will be swiped and his MUG will be scanned. DS's getting a mug, his resort id is scanned etc etc..) Because this bar code will be specifically linked to your RID, its only valid for your own use during your stay. There are also going to be Mug refill stations only. for all of you who are wondering "what if I have a paper cup??" Also, the only other beverage you will be able to fill your mug with with out a scan is water. (becasue its FREE)

Also they have been discussing how to regulate mug rules, and apparently if you are cauht trying to fill your mug at regular station and its not a valid mug(IE a mug from your last trip) (because we all make mistakes sometimes! So if it was a valid mug but you were just not at the correct station))your mug will be confiscated and you will be made to pay for your drink. + they may place the incident on your DVVR, which to me is logical because you are stealing!!! This is also going to serve another purpose as well. Apparently they are going to be conducting and monitoring what the average guest is drinking and just how much use their getting out of their mug during the stay. Like a pumpkin, at the strike of midnight on your last days stay you mug will become inactive. Mugs will also be valid to use at parks as an additional privilege, (but this will come with a $$ higher price tag) Just another tool our RID will become in the near future.

I think this is another awesome Idea the imagineer's have cooked up. It makes me sad to think poor Disney has to resort to these measures. :sad2:

So for all you guys (and gals) out there who hate those repeat offenders.... dont worry their time is coming! for now, just feel proud that you are being an HONEST,DECENT, and RESPONSIBLE Disney guest!:worship:

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I also just wanted to say too, this posts about mugs and pools are getting nutty!! let find something else to talk about! Share the :lovestruc people!! Stop bringing up the silliness!

I am not sure I totally understand. Let's say I purchase a mug, but DH is on his way to the food court anyway..I can't give him my mug to to fill up, I have to fill it up, because I am the one who purchased it? That's annoying. I understand the reasoning, though (they don't want a family gettting 1 mug for 6 people...)

But, I could see how it could be confusing, though. DH and I drink coffee in the morning, so I see us getting two mugs and then throwing them in the backpack when we are done for the day. The next day, we will refill, but how do we know who had which mug? Do we need to write our names on them with a sharpie or something? :lmao: I could see how this could be confusing.

I don't even buy refillable mugs (I drink bottle water most of the time so they would be pretty useless for me) but I don't buy this. It sounds way too oppressive to be at Disney.

I would think that your mug & your DH mug would both expire at the same time so Dh should be able to fill up your mug. You may need to give him your your room key also if the machine is activated by the RID.

Just my thoughts since this program is still in the planning stages AFAIK.

I do not think they will really take old mugs away from guests but the outcome would be if the old mugs do not work then guests would have to buy new ones, pay for a single drink or go without.

If a guest buys an old park pass on ebay and their bio scan does not work because it does not match then that guest either has to buy a new ticket or not go the park.

I feel it really isn't oppressive.
It is just a way to help WDW enforce their rules.

Read it SLOWYLY, It says and I quote "Free unlimited refills available from the beverage station until the end of your stay, in which the mug was purchased." there is some punctuation missing. It means it can be used at any resort beverage station during this stay only, you must purchase a different one on your NEXT trip.

ETA: I had to read it 3 times before I realized there was missing punctuation.

That's how I read it as well. From what I've learned the mug is good until you check out. On the next trip you'll need to purchase another mug.

:wizard: When we were at CBR last summer we were lamenting the switch to generic mugs and saying how much we liked our CBR mugs better....the CM who was ringing up our lunch said "you can bring your old mug and reuse it"...I asked her if she was sure about that and she said you can bring your old mugs back and reuse them! Of course, I couldn't be bothered packing the old mug, but clearly others do. I've even seem people at the beverage station filling up empty water bottles....isn't that kind of like stealing:confused3
Hmmmmm, that's interesting that the CM said you could bring the old mugs back. I've been told the opposite that once you check out you can't bring the old mugs back to refill them for free. :confused3

The rules for the mug state that they are good for the length of stay in which you purchased them. I don't know why the CM didn't know that. There are signs by the mugs that state the policy.

From what I understand, you will not need to swipe your id, there will be a bar code on the lip of the beverage that was activated and encrypted with your RID when you first purchase the mug. So DH would be able to fill your mug with no problems, unless its an expired mug. :thumbsup2

When my friend first told me about it, I was like "that doesn't sound very "Disney"" but he then explained to me the amount of revenue Disney loses every year on refills, to people who break the rules.:sad2: So to them this is exceptable measure to take, to avoid mark ups. (:scared1: So I'm all for them taking what ever measures necessary to keep things in check, and keep my cost DOWN where it belongs in the first place!:goodvibes )

I agreed at first, but there are so many people out there who do this, and its not fair to the rest of us who buy a mug every visit, (like your supposed to!) when there are other who buy one mug and Recycle each time for the next 5 years :guilty: !! Besides, I always love bring home the souvenir every trip, I bring in my new mug to work and everyone ohhhhss and ahhhhhs over it!! So why wouldn't you want to have a new m=one each year??

I like the new mug system, it makes it easier to drink at the different resorts when I pool hop.popcorn::

At Silver Dollar City in Branson they offer refillable mugs in the Park. You can bring it back year to year. When they refill it they will only charge you the refill price that is stamped on the mug. So it may be cheaper for one person than it is for another depending on when they purchased it. Much smaller operation that Disney.

Personally I have never abused the sytem at Disney. I think that their new policy will take it too far though if it goes into effect. I believe that there are more honest people out there than dishonest ones. Not to mention the money it would take for that! Why waste that money for some group of people that may abuse the system. In all of my stays at the Resorts I only saw one person abuse the drink policy.
