Our daughter is running in the Disney Marathon, so we are going to cheer her on... and take a break from Minnesota January cold. The in-laws are coming too, so there will be 5 of us. I have been searching the Internet for lodging and we settled on Reunion. We stayed there about 7 years ago and enjoyed it very much.
The least expensive room through Wyndham (who now runs Reunion) would be $2,800 for the 9 nights we are staying. I found many options on VRBO for about $1,000.
Alternatives we considered were:
- On-site at CBR or POR... one room would be a similar cost to the Reunion town home, since we get a discount on CBR/POR (annual pass holders) and would not need a car if staying on-site. But we would need a second room, driving the cost to more than double.
- Bonnet Creek... we were just there in September ($499/week for 3 bedroom!) and enjoyed it. However the prices from Wyndham are crazy high, and the discounters don't do much to help until the dates get close to keep units full. We can't wait until last minute this time since the Marathon dates are fixed so we need to lock something in.
- Bahama Bay Resort... we have stayed here many times and like it a lot. It costs about 10% less than Reunion, but it is a little further away from WDW and not quite as nice as Reunion.
Our airfare is "free" from credit card points. Next step is to shop for a rental car. Past experience suggests waiting until a few weeks before we go, when the car rental companies get competitive.
