Returning rental car late?

Does anyone know what kind of charges are imposed if you are a little late returning a rental car? We already picked up a car and the rate I booked was for 9 days plus 1 hour, but I think we might not be dropping it off until 30 minutes to 1 hour later than I expected. Will they just add an extra hour charge or will I completely lose the rate that I booked it under? Just trying to figure out how much it might be. The rental is Alamo, if that matters. Thanks.

Probably charge you the extra hour. Just call them and ask. That would give you the chance to change car reservations.

you have a 29 minute grace period from the return time. If it is over that time but under 2 hours, you will get an hourly charge, if it is over 2 hours you will incur the daily charge at the rate you were quoted.

Do not keep a car past the return deadline without first getting permission.

Otherwise the entire rental might be refigured at a higher rate.

If you have ever gone to a rental agency to pick up your car and the lots were empty, chances are it is because other customers kept the cars too long past their return times.
