Return to the Madness: Part 6 Day 4 2/28: A busy day at MK!
Cast:
Me: Obsessive Disney Planner, Disney Commando in 12 step program learning how to do Disney with kids!!!
DH 30- Loves Disney as much as me, but content to sit at the pool and watch the kids
DD6- knows everything, or thinks she does
DD5- loves everything, especially if it is pink
DS4- loves Buzz. We call him Stitch, he is messy and destructive, but very cute.
After all the swimming the day before, who I am kidding, everyday so far! I was determined to spend an entire day at a park! We had an early PS at the Crystal Palace before MK opened. I was looking forward to getting a picture on Main Street with no people in the background. We took the bus to the TTC and the monorail over to MK. Before making it to the monorail, though, there was a slight hold up. People with MYW tickets were having to stop before getting on the monorail, and sign their tickets. We had annual passes, so we were able to go around the backup and head straight for the monorail.
I was a little surprised when we got to the MK at the number of people there for early reservations. Most of them had little girls in princess dresses with them, so I assumed they were headed for the castle, but so much for my empty Main Street Picture (it was nearly empty, that was good enough).
We had done breakfast at the Crystal Palace on our last trip and it was a hit all around, so I knew this would be great. I still had no voice, but the kids were learning to listen to my whispers, so things were working out. Before I can tell you any more about breakfast, I have to interrupt myself and mention that when we go on vacation, I do the planning, and DH pretty much is along for the ride. Once we get there, I am in charge of the money. It is just easier for us that way easier to keep to our budget etc. DH had complained, though, that he couldnt even get himself a drink since I had ALL the money. I relented and gave him $20.00...that was all he wanted, I offered more. Anyway, once we were seated at the Crystal Palace, we were greeted almost immediately by Pooh! Dh pulled the kids autograph books out of his pocket, and I handed Pooh the pen. Once that business was out of the way, we all headed to the buffet. DS and I got back to the table first, and the man at the next table came over to me and showed me some money and a receipt. I think this fell out of your husbands pocket. He was right, DH had bought himself a coffee at roaring forks on our way to the bus stop and his receipt was right there with his change. I thanked the man at the next table, and put the money on the table at DHs spot and waited for him to return with the girls from the buffet. When he did come back, he saw the money and immediately checked his pockets. He asked me where I found the money, and I told him about the nice man at the next table. DH asked me to hold the money since he didnt want it to fall out of his pocket again! Breakfast was great, and the characters were too. The kids once again enjoyed the parade around the dining room. Once we were done eating we all headed out of the CP for our strollers. At this point, the chilly morning air was gone, and the sun was shining bright. DH had been wearing a sweatshirt, as had we all, and he had taken it off inside CP. I asked him where his sweatshirt was, and he realized that he left it inside. He ran back it to get it while the kids and I waited at the strollers. An older couple observed the scene of the forgotten sweatshirt, and started talking to me about how well behaved and beautiful my children were. I joked that my fourth child had just run inside to get his sweatshirt. The older gentleman said something like, Oh come on, it cant be that bad! So I explained to him how DH had forgotten his suitcase on the day of our arrival, and then the money story, and now this .his track record wasnt too good. When DH came back, sweatshirt in hand, they ribbed him a little about being an extra child for me. Dh is a good sport. Then we said our goodbyes, and headed off for adventure land.
Here is where we became those people who argue with CMs. I dont like to be one of those people, but in this situation, and in another on another day, I believe I was right.
On one of our other stops at MK we tried DS on Splash Mountain. He walked up to the height measure thing all by himself, stood up straight, and the top of his head hit the bottom of the measure stick. He was allowed to ride, no problems. He was only measured once by a CM, but I measured him myself at each stick along the way he was very excited. So after breakfast at the CP, we headed directly for Spalsh. I know DS looks small, so I told him to go get measured so we could get in line. He did the same as the day before, this time, though, he wasnt standing as straight, he was bouncing all around. The CM took a baseball card out of his pocket and slid it, with trouble, between DS head and the measure stick. He said that since the baseball card fit through DS would not be able to ride. I tried to explain that he had been on it a day or two before, and that he was plenty tall enough then. I asked if he would let me assist DS to stand up straight. The CM said I was not allowed to help him stand up straight. I said all I wanted to do was get him into positon, and then I would let go. He told me that I could not do that. DS began to get upset. He knew he had been tall enough the day before and just wanted to ride. The CM handed him one of the baseball cards and said, maybe next year buddy. DS began to cry. My girls told the CM he was mean. I tried to get them all to stop .but I was mad too. I had DH take the kids over towards Big Thunder Mountain, to where our strollers were, and then I gave the CM a piece of my mind.
When I got to DH and the kids he told me that he had measured DS at Big Thunder, and his head hit the bar just fine. We told them that there must be a discrepancy in the height of these bars, and we told them about the problem we just had getting DS on Splash. They agreed that he was in fact tall enough to ride, but said there was nothing that they could do. We rode Big thunder 4 times in a row, with no wait. DS was happy again, but none of us forgot the CM who had tried to ruin our day. Now, before I goany further I want to say this. I know that CMs have a job to do. I also knw the height requirements are there for a reason. I want my kids to be safe. That being said, if I didnt think DS was tall enough, I would not have even tried to measure him. IT would have been easier to take him straight to the play area at Splash and let him play, oblivious to the fact that his sisters were riding the ride. However, since we measured him at home before the trip, and he was 40, and we had him ride the day before, and his head was hitting the bar, I was upset. I do not want to be criticized for this. Also, I have proof that the bars are not the same height all around the park, no matter who tells you they are .but I will get into that in tomorrows report.
After Big Thunder, we did Pirates with no wait. We did Haunted mansion with only a 5 minute wait, if that. WE did Peter Pan, and Goofys barnstormer with little to no wait as well. We all saw Philharmagic, which is an all time favorite. We did a few other rides that were repeats from previous MK visits and then, around 1pm we decided to head to Main Street, grab a spot on the curb, and have an ice cream. Actually, DH and DS went to get a haircut while the girls and I had ice cream. By the time we browsed the stores, found a spot and then got the ice cream it was 2pm. The sidewalk was getting crowded with people waiting for the 3pm Share a Dream Come True Parade. There were CMs from Hong Kong with hula hoops and bubbles scattered down Main Street entertaining the kids (mine included, who knew they could hula hoop?) When DH and DS returned, they each had buzz cuts (their usual) and Pixie dust They even stopped to get a picture of the two of them on Main Street, looking at the castle, so we could see the back of their heads! They got their ice creams and DS even had a few minutes to play with his sisters before the parade began. I loved the parade, as did the kids. We got tons of pictures. This was the first time we had seen the entire daytime parade. On out last trip, there was a lot of rain, and once we only saw a portion of the parade as it began to downpour two minutes after it began. I decided that I liked this parade, but Spcetromagic was better.
As we were watching the parade, DH spotted a friend and co-worker from home across the way on Main Street. We went over to talk to them after the parade and crowd had passed. They were staying at the WL as well. My kids wanted to you guessed it .head back and swim. They were doing the same for their son, so we headed back to the boat together. WE decided to meet at the pool in a few minutes.
We met them at the pool, and the kids played happily for about an hour. We then decided to eat all together at Whisering Canyon. It was a very loud dinner after a long day. Our waiter either sensed our tiredness, or was tired himself, because he didnt give us too much grief! DH and I had the skillet. It was kind of expensive, and not as good as lunch and dinner.
After dinner, which we ate around 7pm, we all headed for bed.
oh, I fogot to mention that one of DH's must do's was Hall of Presidents. He did get to see it, and loved it. He also went into one of the nearby shops and researched his family crest. It made me laugh when he told me about it. Apparently it has a boar on it. The boar represents a lot of things, but the only one I remember is that is represents pig headedness. This made me laugh because DH is very stubborn. While DH was doing his must do, the kids and I were off riding as many rides as we could, since it was not too crowded.
Up Next: More height drama at AK, but now I have proof! And Fantasmic!
