I would also pick 5:05. We once had a 2 pm flight thinking... We have PLENTY of time. We took our time getting off the ship and getting to the airport. We didn't go anywhere else as we knew there wasn't really enough time.. but still thought we would have lots of time to kill at the airport... Well not really. Between the bus waiting to load more passengers, the traffic and horrendous airport line-up we ended up clearing customs at something like 12:45pm.
I remember only having about 45 min to wait for boarding.

We did a day room once and it is entirely 100% worth it.
We did an 1150 flight this past Saturday after a week on the Fantasy. Early breakfast private car and we were at MCO before 9. Could have been earlier without breakfast, which would have been fine as breakfast isn't all that. That said, the lines at MCO - at least for Southwest - are really really long, 30-40 minutes to check a bag, both inside and outside. We always do a private car - not that much different than Magical Express for 4 people.

My 5 year old had autism and our number 1 priority for flight is no layover. I'm already nervous about one flight there and back. I just checked JetBlue and they all have layovers (in addition to us already having to drive 3 hrs to the airport) we have an airport closer but no flights out are non stop (any airline) which is why we choose to drive to avoid the layover. There are other airlines that are non stop other than SW but they would cost quite a bit more.

I have 3 kids traveling with me on our up coming cruise, like you, i wanted to only pick direct flights, and the options were before noon or at 5:50pm, we went with 5:50pm flight and rented a day room at the Hyatt, figure it's best to avoid any rushing and kids melt downs, we can just hang around the pool or relax in the room or even roam around the airport.
