Rethinking my whole plan, due to RoL

In mid-late April, the earliest the show could start would be 8:15-8:30PM.
I guess it depends if they want to set a definitive time every day, or move it around. If they want a definitive time, 8:30 seems likely, though in mid to late April they could get away with 8:00. The Disney website describes this as a "sunset" show.

A Story at Sundown Set Aglow

Be enchanted by a brilliant spectacle of glowing lanterns, magical fireflies, dancing fountains and animal spirits.

As sunlight fades and the stars begin their twinkle, remember the instinctual feeling that we are all bound together by earth and spirit—past, present and future.

Fading sunlight doesn't sound as if they need to wait for total darkness to set in before starting the show. On April 22, the sun sets at 7:55., so 8:00 is doable. However, on June 22, sunset is at 8:26, so an 8:30 start seems likely. So I think it all depends on whether they want to pick one time and stick to it, or whether they want to link this up to the actual sunset. If they do the latter, then in the winter months, the show would have to start around 5:30-6:00.

But, at "sunset" the sky is still fully lit (I mean "as bright as day" lit...) and it stays that way for quite some time (20-30 minutes, depending on various factors, until it finally fades to "dark.")

If it is a sunny day today or tomorrow where you live**, set an alarm (on your cel phone) for Sunset time and look outside when the alarm goes off.

I know many of you have GPS units which change to their "night mode" at sunset time. It's usually a surprise to me on sunny days, as the sky is still fully lit when the GPS screen changes to night mode.

As far as I can determine, none of the major RoL projections will work if the sky is light.
(Click HERE to see a promo video. None of the effects shown will work with a light sky.)
And, if what I'm hearing is correct and the RoL show runs about 20 minutes,
if the show were to begin 5 minutes after sunset, the sky would not be dark except by the very end of the show (if even by then.)

I'd be willing to bet that the first RoL show of each day will have a start-time that matches that of Fantasmic!, another show that requires a dark sky.

I'm just using empirical evidence for this conclusion.
(If I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.)

**Google "sunset time," and search for your closest city.

We are there the first week of May and are highly considering just skipping the night AK stuff. I'm sure it will be amazing, but possibly too new thus too popular to make it enjoyable for us. We're keeping our options open, but aren't necessarily planning to do an AK evening at this point.

After watching the promo video on the Rumors & News page, we are definitely planning to include ROL in our plans now!

I agree with everything you have posted. But for whatever reason, Disney chose the words "sundown" and "as sunlight fades" to describe the event. I suppose those could have been sloppily chosen phrases, but they seem rather purposeful. We shall know soon enough.

We'll be there at the end of april/first of may. At first I was excited and planning to adjust to be able to see ROL, but the past couple of days I've been rethinking that. I know we'll be back in the future, so I think I'd rather wait until it might be a little less of a madhouse. I hate being with my kids in insane crowds of people when no one knows what's going on. The only way I'll even consider it now is if I did a dining package with a reserved area and could even still allow plenty of time to get there and then plenty of time after it's over to let the crowd disperse.
