I bought a pink Steeler number jersey a week ago. It was on sale, I seen the policy which said no returns , exchange only on sale merchandise. I asked could I bring it back if it doesn't fit. Yea he says. (young clerk, only 1 there)

Fast forward, shirt doesn't fit. I want to get a black or white number jersey. Of course none in my size. I go to the cash register the clerk says no refund. I argue, say I was told it could be exchanged for another size. She says yea of the same shirt. Huh? He didn't tell me that. So the owner comes over because of course the store is packed and I'm argueing. He says thats my policy. I said, but you have no more shirts in my size and no more to come in , he told me. I ask for a store credit. NO! Then he tells me in not those words, I'm SOL . I'm mad but leave.

Then I thought no way. $35.00 its not fair. Its not my fault they don't have my size and its not like I bought the shirt 1 month ago, it was a week. I go back talk to the guy again. He had an answer for everything but I kept up. Finally he takes the bag from my hand throws it over the counter, goes in his pocket and pulls out a wad of bills about 4 inches thick. NO LIE!!!! He asked me for a $5.00 bill because he obviously had all 20's. Gave me the 2 20's and said, for future reference remember I don't take returns on sale merchandise. I said don't worry I won't be back.. Was I wrong?

I got the white no 7 at Champs, BTW!

Well, if there is a written policy that they don't take things back than that is that, no matter what the clerk may have said.

However, the policy does offer an exchange. If there was nothing to be exchanged, then I think the store owed you a credit.

His customer service sucks.

I have to ask though, why didn't you try the shirt on before you left the store? I hate trying things on myself, but when I see a policy like that, I always do.

wow thats rude!

If you were told that you could return if it didnt fit then you should have been able to do that. Store credit would have been more reasonable.

I definately think you were right.

I do see that if that is his policy its his policy, but its his responsiblity to train his employees to what he wants them to say about that policy. If you were told one thing they should have stuck to that.

Because there was no place to try the shirt on. I did ask if there was, and the clerk said no. Thats why I asked if I could bring it back if it didn't fit.

Well, since the written policy says no returns, then I wouldn't expect to go back in and get my money back. :confused3

I always shop where I know they have a good return policy. Forget asking the young kid. Some of them have no clue. I read the policy before I buy. Luckly you did get your money back. Legally because they have a "no return policy" they really don't have to refund you your money. Target is like this. No receipt only an exchange for the same item. You can only do that three times in a year. After that your out of luck. I will agree with you. I would have been very mad. I am glad you got your money back. Never shop there again. Always read a store's return policy. That determines if I shop there.

It does say it can be exchanged, but no where for the same shirt. So since they didn't have my size, I should have at least got a credit. I could have found something to buy and he was still getting the money. This way he totally lost it!

I agree, but she would have been fine with a store credit. n

What a terrible store policy! I can understand Target's strore credit policy without a sales receipt, but for this store to not allow returns on sale items with a receipt is not a way I would do business. They should, at the very least, allow store credit. I would not shop at a store with that policy.

When I hear "exchange" I assume the same item. If an item's on sale, then I assume they may not have anymore if I go back to exchange. I agree that the manager was rude, but he did give you your money back.

This policy was NO returns, only exchanges. You wanted to exchange it but they didn't have your size. If they give you a store credit it would have in essence been an exchange because you would have had to come back in their store to get something else (and probably would have bought something worth more $).

The owner made a mistake by acting the way he did. Not only did he lose you as a future customer I am sure you will tell friends of his attitude and he will lose them also.

ITA.

Exchange to me means the same item to begin with.

Just a question. Is this one of those quick set up shops for Steeler stuff (or perhaps one of the stores down in the Strip?)

I can understand the no return policy or even having to exchange for the same shirt but they could have been more polite. If they didn't have the shirt they should have exchanged it for something else. These stores have a very limited amount of time to move their merchandise so a no return policy is reasonable.

BTW, Walmart has/had the pink shirts much cheaper ;)

No, its a permanent store at Century III mall. It sells Steeler, Pirate and Penguin stuff. My DH told me about Wal-Mart and the pink shirts, unfortunately none are left. I think I got the only kids XL Ben R. number jersey in the city of Pittsburgh. Found it at Champs. While I was checking out., DH said to the clerk, What is your return policy? ;)

Target is only an exchange only if you don't have the receipt and paid CASH for the item. Otherwise, if you don't have the receipt, but have the credit card you used, you will get a refund no problems.

ITA, I don't understand why he gave you the money back instead of giving you store credit. :confused3 I wouldn't shop there anymore.

Well, if the guy is just pulling a wad of bills out of his pocket in order to give her money, something tells me that he probably doesn't have a very "sophisticated" store credit program.

Whe I hear exchange, I think of a simliarly priced item, or, if there is a priced difference, then obviously I would pay the difference if it was more or expect a refund/store credit if ti was less.

The store manager handled it poorly and because of that he lost a customer.

There are a few issues here. As a former retail store manager I'd love to see the entire policy but from what you have said that no I don't think you were entiled to a full refund, if that's what you are asking.

That said, because I don't have the entire policy I can't say if you were entilted to a store credit or not BUT one would have been nice and definately the most favorible option in regards to customer service.

I agree that the owner handled things poorly but they also did have a no return policy and usually stores with strict return policies specify 'same item' exchanges only. I would have assumed that but I can completely understand why you would be frustrated.

Yep, same here. Although his attitude was uncalled for in your case. He should have kept his cool and restated his policy.
